Hi Gromies. I finally got a TDS meter and my water is 490. That seems higher than average. Will this cause potential issues with growing.

Keep an eye on your plants but I think you'll be ok. You may have to adjust nutrients added so not to burn the plant. Play it by ear; If you spend a lot of time with her then that shouldn't be a problem. I know ground source water is always UVC blasted (or at least it should be) so you shouldn't have any harmful bacteria. You can get home devices that UVC your water as it comes in. Seen them with other more personal ground source water. It will lose calcium as it moves through pipes and collecting in certain areas. They are testing at the source and will be higher. I hope this helps, good luck and happy growing

My water comes from underground aquafers. The annual report actually had higher values. I will get done distilled water to test it against but the water is very hard even before the tds meter.

Its mostly magnesium and calcium in the water anyway. both beneficial to plant growth.

It really depends where your water comes from. 490 is quite high, but if you live in an mountainous area it may have lots of mineral and macro nutrients in it. Which would be beneficial. Make sure your meter is working properly by testing at different sites and using deionised water as a control as the TDS should be zero. I hope this helps, good luck and happy growing.

Anything over 300 is poor for drinking. You want between 50 & 150ppm. My guess is your meter needs to be calibrated.
