How do i deal with the dark period before harvest?

Hi guys, My plant is now getting ready and is 20% amber at the top buds. Im wondering how i should deal with the dark period now, put the whole plant in darkness and then cut off the top 3rd only, with the rest of the plant continuing to ripe? Could this work? Best regards!

If your doing a partial harvest you will need to dry your buds away from the remaining plant as you will want to still be running your tent as normal while your waiting for the lower parts to finish.

So i should not put the whole plant in 48 hrs. darkness and then retourn the rest of the plant into the normal light schedule?
