If you have an iPhone the Photone app will get you close enough. Someone mentioned below Migro did a comparison and this has worked well for me. Just cover your camera with a piece of paper.

I use an app but it's probably not as good as an actual sensor. But all its for is to make sure I get enough light and after 3 or 4 grows I got used to the phone app.

I searched the web when i was deciding whether to buy an app or the sensor. I chose to go for the apogee mq500, it’s more accurate

A friend of mine is using one with good results. They wont be as accurate as the real thing but it is a great tool to get a good gauge of where you are in terms of adjustments. If you can I'd use the light manufacturer's recommendations. Hope this helps 🙂
