New to growing, trying my hand at white widow autos. . . I've heard they're "easy" what would be a good grow medium and what nutrients should I start gathering before I start my grow?

Buy the best soil quality potting mix you can afford. You can't grow prime plants in cheap shit dirt! Besides, the soil is usually the cheapest part of any grow. Autos need 18/6 light/dark to grow properly and if you are growing outdoors, go with photoperiod plants, they will be far superior to any stupid auto flowering plant. And yes, I am an enemy of auto flowers in general and after many disappointments, stopped growing them due to their poor yields and unstable genetics. For a comprehensive article about container growing with soil, try the "Mandala Seeds" website and on their home page click on "grow guide" and you will find a mountain of information relevant to all cannabis strains and with recommendations for particular brands available in North America and Europe. As I said, it is highly informative and a great source of ideas and information for all new growers and far more detailed than any 20 line answers you may get through this forum. Hope this helps,......... Organoman.

You have to decide that. Which do you think sounds more interesting, growing in soil, coco coir, peat, hydro, deep water culture? If you do a little homework, you'll find some nutrients and supplements that can be used for what you grow in. There are many products out there that can be used in different mediums. General Hydroponics is one brand that can be used in hydro, coco or soil.

For beginners a peat mix with 50% perlite would be the best. Nutrients i would suggest GHE to start.

Hmm - I mean there’s a lot of factors to picking a grow medium but if you don’t mind feeding/watering every day or so - I’d recommend going coco/perlite. Soil is an easier set it and forget it type deal for the first few weeks cuz the nutrients will be in the soil so you won’t have to supplement them until flower BUT with coco you have a blank slate that you can tailor your nutrients better to the plant as you see her growing. If I had to choose something for myself to grow in for the first time again - I’d go with coco. You’ll learn more, but it will be a bit more time and learning. It’s easy tho. Also, can’t overwater coco - so that’s a plus. This is assuming you’re doing an indoor grow. You can run coco outdoors too tho. I’d go with a well known nutrient company, or what’s available for you. General hydro, advanced nutrients, canna.. Start with the base nutrients (grow, bloom, and sometimes micro) and cal mag also if you’re doing coco. Get a pH pen and TDS/EC pen and some pH Up&Down Hopefully this helped ya ! Good luck
