Topping

Hi. I FIM instead of top, and use SCROG netting to train my plants, weaving them and tucking the tops under the netting as they go through their stretch during flower. I like FIMing better, because it gives you more tops if performed correctly. But with FIMing or topping, I generally wait till I see about 4 nodes or more. I am currently growing in a 20"x36" grow tent, with 8 plants in 2 gallon fabric pots. I counted and have a little over 70 bud sights at the top of the canopy. I expect to harvest about a pound of flower from this grow😎 Good luck on finishing this grow, and your future grows.

When it gets around 4 to 5 nodes

If you are set on topping I’d wait til you have at least 5-6 nodes and then top it so you have something like 4 nodes/ 8 branches.. All depends what your end game is and if you are going to do more training or just top and let it go like that. If it is your first grow, it might be worth just letting it grow as is to get an idea of how everything works and grows with no training. Sometimes that’s not feasible if you have height limitations or other factors in play. I top most of my plants because it does help provide a more even canopy for light distribution in indoor grows, and it’s truly not something that you can mess up and ruin your grow doing tho so you’ll be good either way. Definitely wait til you have several nodes established tho, good luck!

I top only photoperiods. Most times i do it at the 5th node but sometimes the 3rd node. Best of luck with your grow.
