I have some pretty large ladies in the last weeks of flower. Would it be beneficial to take off all the lower popcorn buds that don’t really get light anymore?

Yep, if your big buds are fattening up and pistils browning and you have shitey buds with white hairs and few trichomes just get rid of them - I used to grow outdoors and you will probably end up with a bag full of it you might be able to use for oils. Take say 10-15% off every couple of days and you should be fine.
You could always keep the plants and dont chop the stalk but harvest top down and keep the lil nugs on to mature for a second harvest, depends on you and your conditions.
