Ventilation setup

Do I need more than just carbon filters and 2 fans in my 18"×18"×48" grow tent? I bought 6 inch round carbon filters that are about 1/2" thick. And put them in the vent holes for odor control and I have a hanging fan at the top of tent and a small fan for exhaust. Is it enough?

From my experience, likely you won't have enough ventilation to keep the tent within a good temp range using just those fans and passive ventilation. I have a tent similarly sized and have a single 6" fan inside the tent. I opened all of the ports and turned the light on. After a fairly short period of time the temps in the tent reached >90 degree F. The average air temp in my house is around 69-73 degree F. I also have a 450W LED light. Most likely you'll need at least an exhaust fan to vent the heat out to keep your temps at a reasonable level. But maybe not. Test it out and see if you can keep the temps down with the lights on with those fans and passive ventilation. I now have a variable speed exhaust fan (outside the tent) pulling through a 6" carbon filter that sits in side the tent. Since the tent is small, I have turned the fan down to the lowest possible speed because even at that speed I am able to achieve negative air pressure inside the tent. Negative air pressure in sidethe tent means that no air will be escaping through the holes and passive vents. All of the holes are now air intakes only and do not need to really be covered. This also means no smell leaking through those.

I also have a room fan sitting outside the tent blowing cool air near the tent. That may help as well. I will post a comment once I switch the light on to let you know how the temps are. GrowCN I sent you a message.

Are you using a exhaust fan designed for that purpose? They are designed to work with more back pressure so it can force air through a filter. If just using a desk or computer fan even a thin charcoal filter will really hurt air flow. Also, 1/2" is not much for filtration. Most people are using a exhaust fan and a large canister filter. When my plants get stinky even a new, large canister filter still lets some smell through. Here is one site with a ventilation diagram and reviews of fans and filters. I use AC Infinity Cloudline fans and several different brands of charcoal filters. While expensive, the AC Infinity is a incredible fan. When you get it with the programmable controller it makes it very easy to maintain temperature and humidity inside your tent. I get about the same result from all the charcoal filters I have tried so I tend to shop based on price.
