Hi there. I've ONLY grown autoflowers but I'm only on my second grow... I learned a lot from my first grow but this second one is teaching me more! Here's what I would consider basic info for you as you start out:
1. Introduce nutes gradually! When you first give your plants some nutes (no earlier than 2 weeks old), start them at 1/4 strength of recommended dosage. Second time you give them nutes, you can raise that to 50% strength (always give plain water between feedings ... i.e., water then feed then water then feed).
2. MOST important is to maintain a good ph balance in the soil. The grow I've got going now is doing something weird... I measure the ph of the soil before I water or feed and then adjust my liquid's ph to make sure the soil stays within a good range... these silly ladies, for SOME reason, pump the ph up between waterings/feedings so I'm constantly having to lower the ph of my liquid to knock down the ph of the soil. Example: soil measures 7.0ph so I make my liquid about 5.5ph which takes the soil down to about 6.4... but by the time they're wanting more water/fertilizer, the soil is back up to 7ph... very strange.
3. Remember they're called AUTOflowers for a reason... they're programmed to go into flower at a certain time and programmed to be ready for harvest at a certain time. Folks who grow photoperiods think they can "adjust" this cycle in autoflowers... but they're wrong... you just end up hurting your plants.
4. There is never a reason autoflowers need to have their lights flipped to a different schedule. They should be on 18/6 as a general rule but in both my grows, I've had to have them on 24/7 because I couldn't keep the temps up in the tent otherwise. This doesn't affect them at all ... the only thing it will affect is your electric bill.
5. You CAN use low stress training (LST) and you CAN do some pruning but, especially with the pruning, do it conservatively and slowly over a couple days time so you don't stress the plants out terribly. They're, again, AUTOflowers and causing them stress might be detrimental to their inherent life cycle. I prune cautiously and judiciously to allow light and air to penetrate down to the lower buds... but I don't like doing it so I only remove maybe 5 or 6 leaves at one go... wait a day and then reassess...
6. Just relax and have fun with the plants... let them talk to you! I screwed EVERYTHING up on my first grow and still harvested almost 2oz per plant....
As everyone else has said, if you want, msg me! More than happy to help! GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!
