Trimming off fan leaves before harvest

Does anyone have experience with trimming off the fan leaves in the last days up to harvest? Specifically, does it speed up the ripening process?

Don't do it, she needs those leaves to make the energy she needs to finish flowering. Removing those leaves will reduce the amount of energy being made and will slow maturation, not speed it up! The theory that making a plant "think" it is being eaten so will make extra trichomes is botanically impossible and BS. A plant can only make as many trichomes as it is genetically programmed to, no more than that. If it were possible to make extra trichomes by doing something unusual, there would be books written about it!

Not sure about speeding it up, as if your doing it a few days before harvest then they are already ripe and a few more days aint gonna change that. However there is a theory that a heavy defol a day or two before harvest can make the plant think its being eaten by some animal so it ramps up tricomes to produce more THC and resin as a defense mechanism. The trick is to not cut off all the leaves as then the plant cant collect energy to make the THC, so u want to do a medium to heavy ish defol a few days(2-4) before and then the day before do another smaller one and on harvest day u do the last defol and take off all the leaves left and then the buds in that order. I dont know if science has tested it yet, but I do that or something similar as it makes harvest easier and at least doest hurt if you dont go over board the first big chop. Say 50-60% of leaves gone on first chop, and up to u on the rest as it doesnt really matter after that. If u have two plants then test it out and try on one but not the other. But Im def a fan of using the stress from defol in late flower to boost resin and thc production. Its the timing u need to figure out as each strain reacts diff to it. Some like it, some love it and some hate it. Some seems to react well if u do it 2 days before but not 5 days before, ect. But if in doubt a few light ones each day for a few days leading up to harvest day is another way to give it a try and test the waters and see how ur plants react.
