Steve Hager was the first person to interview the Waldos, a group of high school friends who started the 4/20 tradition. Hager was instrumental in both documenting and creating the 4/20 holiday we celebrate today. Here, he explains the full history of 4/20 in three acts.

I heard it was a high school teacher from Vancouver ( Jeffery McMallahan) who devised that since weed plants are five fingered that 4 times 5 is roughly 20 so ….4:20 for short .

It's the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion day, leading to the largest oil spill in history. We smoke up to in remembrance of the once clean oceans now sullied by that and many many other pollutions in the name of the capitalist ideology of "whoopsy-doodles"
