Why guess??? There are several free light meter apps available for your phone. They are not calibrated or totally accurate but they can be pretty close. Measuring the light will then allow you to either adjust the light's output or change it's hanging height. Both sort of achieve similar results. With young plants I will turn down the power of my lights and lower them rather close to the plants. When they get bigger I will raise the lights and crank up the power intentionally trying to have good reflections from the sides of the tent to provide light to the sides of the plant.
