Soil is easy and forgiving. Smaller yield by a lot, better flavor. Coco and perlite is hydro in a potter. Bigger yield. Bigger plants. More potency, down side lots of matiance compared to soil. I grow in coco daily. Soil I don't care much for.

I germinate in coco and perlite and run them on gh flora 3 part w/ a scootch of cali magic + till they are sturdy and pathogen resistant I might even veg some in the coco and hand feed As it speeds the plow. But imo in the beginning unless your a part time hobbyist and your not planning on growing serious personal weight (my wife and I are prescribed a quarter pound each per month and I caretake for a third also a qp per month ) I have a very full life and I can tell you the simplicity in running in a “water only soil” where I might water 5-6 times a bloom cycle and with nothing more then good old h20 is a godsend for us. I don’t have time for all that “hand holding” with the plants. The plants take exactly what they need and I can run nearly anything 100% I have 10 25-30 gallon fabric pots and I up pot / drop the new cycle a few weeks to a month in advance and flip and virtually forget them as I have my tents dialed. When my Grow hits soil my grow is on auto pilot other then a little defoliation at week 3 in bloom and staking etc. no guessing no measuring no spending money on a bunch of salt. I’m on the 8th bloom cycle in my current soil.

I personally think coco is better. Pros - less medium needed, bigger indoor plants, more forgiving. I also like that coco comes with little to no nutrients so you are in control unlike most soils which pretty much has enough to carry a plants it's first couple weeks. Not knowing your soils npk ratio & adding nutrients can easily burn your plants

There is a good article here https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-create-your-own-soil-mix-for-cannabis-n75 I figure its mix and match, I started with Garden shop bought compost and it came with loads of bugs in it, now I'm using Coco with added Worm Castings, Pearlite, Vermiculite and things are much better. Using Canna nutes too.

Soil when you want to grow 100% organic. Coco when you want to control and measure the nutrition values.

I can not say one is better than the other and much has already been written online, in books and videos. They are two different growing methods. The decision between soil and hydroponic should be one of your first decisions when thinking of growing.

Honestly, I say build soil with peat moss instead of coco coir. Pot plants love being in slightly acidic soil and, well, peat plays into that quite well. Which is definitely a pro. Mix one part sphagnum peat, one part pumice, one part worm castings or compost(or a mixture of both) and you have a great base for super soil. A pro for coco coir is that plants grow really fast in it when being grown hydroponically. Another pro is that it is considered more sustainable for the environment than sphagnum peat. But, it is pH neutral. That's about all I know, other than what old growers have taught me. They all swear by sphagnum peat, so I haven't even experimented with coco coir yet. I hope this was helpful. Good luck!
