Split in mainline

Misanthrope
Misanthropestarted grow question 2 years ago
Noticed this split at the base of Natasha's mainline. I don't think it's getting any bigger but I'm not sure. Should I cover the opening with tape to try and keep out water/bacteria? Ziptie around the stem to prevent further splitting?

Do not put tape on it, this can cause excess moisture to form and lead to fungal disease. Putting a zip tie around can choke the stem and kill the plant above it in time. My advice would be to do nothing. Supporting the branches growing above this section of stem may help to prevent further splitting, if you feel as though you must do something.

Looks like an old split to me and has completely healed over. Now its just a scar so there is nothing to do.. Just gotta be careful when you do any LST to that side of the plant.

I would tie the splitting branch tight to the other branch to stop it from splitting farther

Those aren't bad ideas. You could also buy some tree wound salve to fill it with. That would do a fantastic job of making sure no botrytis will get into the plant through that wound. I hope this helps.

The most I would do would be to perhaps support those two branches a bit somehow so there is no further strain on the split... I don't think you have to actually tape or otherwise remedy the split itself - just do something so it doesn't get bigger... Good luck!

I would do as mooncat said, leave it be and don't put any more stress on it.

Unless you put more force on it, it wont harm dont worry. Fix if you like but you dont really need to.

Hi I’ve seen you can get a pruning paste you actually put in the splits and it hardens and you can use all sorts of plants, But I would say yes do what you can to support it people use all sorts if it works all good 👍 Beat of luck bro 🌱
