Reason for red / lilac stems of fan leaves?

kohlrabistarted grow question 2 years ago
The stems oft many of the fan leaves turned lilac over night. Not only the top ones, so I don't think it's stress from the light. Could some light defoliation the two days before be the reason? The only other thing I changed were 5ml of bio Hesi bloom nutrients. Otherwise healthy

Some strains normally produce red stems.... but I, too, am growing FastBuds Wedding Cheesecake and do not have the red stems so this is not something associated with this strain. Red stems generally will indicate stress of some kind - if they are lower on the plant but not on top, it's indicating the plant went through something bad earlier in its life.... if they're STILL red on top, then it's something that's going on now. But I don't see anything in your diary that would cause this although I am not familiar with your nutes and it may be there's a little bit too much nitrogen in them as the leaves look pretty dark to me... If the plant is overall healthy, like yours, I wouldn't worry about it much at all.... Just keep an eye out for other problems and jump on them if you see something... Good luck! Very nice grow so far!!

Thank you very much, both of you. I looked at about 5 different grow diaries with Wedding Cheesecake, and like growinggrannie said, dark stems do not seem to be a characteristic of this strain. (BTW, are you really a growing granny?? :D) The stems turned purple all over the plant and really from one night to the other. I will stop the defoliation and watch the development. If they recover but turn purple again after the nutrients, I will stop using them, too. And thank you again, you really eased my worries quite a bit!

Hi It’s looking great.. Looks completely normal to me a lot of genetics have purple stems/branches just the way they are, I wouldn’t worry about it 👍 Good luck with your grow 🌱
