When is the vegetative stage?

This is my second grow ever. I plan to let these grow indoors until 4/20 and then transfer to bigger pots outdoors. When can I consider these plants to hit the vegetative stage? I have heard when they hit their first set of 7-point leaves but that seems long. Is that accurate?

I believe the colloquial definition dictates the plant has 7 sets of pointed leaves not that the plant has a 7 point leaf. Everything after the cotyledons counts.

As soon as they are a functional plant, they are in the vegetative cycle in my opinion.

it's a dilineation that does not matter much... it's not a 'one day it will happen overnight!" type of things... some may be more robust and mature before others... you can tell if they can handle 35-40DLI without shriveling up. Vegetative growth -- new leaves and stem elongation. bloom -- growth related to sex organs and cessation of vegetative growth. There's no definitely point where a plant is no longer a seedling or immature plant... it's just about how it behaves and some plants will have different timeframes.

About 8 to 12 inches tall is how my medical license classifies it. Is the switch from seedling to vegging.

I personally count the plant as being in the veg state when the first true leaves appear... But others may use a different "marker" ... Good luck with your grow!
