I believe the plants need a good wet/dry watering cycle where the entire pot gets soaked and then is allowed to dry till you can't really feel any moisture on the top layer. The weight of the pots can be a good measure and if still not sure go buy a moisture meter at the local garden center to probe the soil directly. I still test with a probe when not sure.
For watering, after a quick wetting over the entire soil surface to break that dry resistance focus on the center and let it soak out to fill the pot. Not too fast else water will drain out the sides. Fox Farm recommends 10% runoff on their website.
Tap water is ideal because it has minerals that your plant needs but also comes with bad like the aformentioned chlorine. Using fresh tap works fine, but it is nice to let your water sit overnight to let chlorine evaporate and your water will be room temp as well. Would probably matter most right before harvest because it can affect taste.
Temperature wise I usually try not to go above 78F, any higher and I see negative effects.
Best of luck!
