Hello I’m new to this page, not long ago I gave a grow a try and it didn’t work out as planned. I just wanted to ask what is the best soil/nutrients to use from start to finish to make sure my next one is a lot better.

hi if you don't want to use any measuring devices, I can recommend the earth canna bio professional, plus canna bio Vega / Terra, canna bio boost and canna bio rizothonic. You can find the fertilizer plan on the canna website, and you can also use it as it is there. I hope I could help you .

My suggestion would be to plan out your grow down to every detail, and for soil, I would go with Happy Frog Soil, has enough nutrients for your plant for 3 weeks, so no feeding until then, once it's time to feed I would go with GHE FloraSeries ( Micro,Gro, Bloom) and also Botanicare Cal-Mag Plus. Good Luck my friend with all of your future grows.

Howdy. This is all suggested. I obviously have not touched or tried it all, but I have found what works and worked for me in my first grow. Nutrients: Recommend picking up your choice of a "trio" set of nutrients. These will come in three parts and each will cover one of the main macro nutrients (N/P/K (Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium)). They should and will also cover the micro nutrients needed in your grow (ei. zinc, copper, iron, sulphur etc...). These are beginner sets and there is very little trial and error involved. Feeding instructions and schedules from the manufacture will be very clear and if you follow their recommendations, everything should line up nicely. Lastly, I heavily suggest you pick up a Calcium/Magnesium supplement (label will probably say something like 0-0-2). You will need this... I thought my trio set (General Hydroponics) would cover the plants need for Cal/Mag, but no dice. It is an essential micro nutrient, our plants use a lot of it and when you hit flower, that need gets even larger. Personal: I started with GHE "flora" series. They call it old faithful and for good reason. Great for beginners and easy to use/apply. Only problem? I found out the other week they're owned by Monsanto now and that bothers me. I love the line, but will be moving to another non-earth destroying company. But any trio series of your choice will do it for you👍. Read reviews and research the product and you'll find what YOU want. Soil mediums: I see a lot of Ocean Forest recommendations, and I understand why. It's often suggested to new growers because it is highly amended with micro/macro nutrients and they advertise that it will carry your plant through it's first 3-4 weeks of Veg without any feeding. Pretty attractive idea. Less trial and error, I thought. The problem is this... how do you know what and how much to feed of the nutrients you've purchased in a soil that is heavily amended with the same nutrients? Answer is, you don't... I used ocean forest first grow, thought it would be great. Almost immediately the heavily amended soil started to affect my plants and I was completely handcuffed as to what to feed and when. pH maladjustments, Nitrogen toxicities, deficiencies, burns, semi-nutrient lock...you name it, it probably happened, and it was not fun. A constant battle and I walked away from this amended crap. I still have a bag and a half of Ocean that I was going to use in my last pot up, first grow. Instead I said screw this and went for a "neutral" soil. All the ingredients of a good medium without the added "goodies" for the final 8 gallons of soil I needed. This gave me back control! over my grow where for 2 months I felt like I was losing this battle. There are many good neutral soils out there that you can choose from. I personally am using a 50/50 mix of Dutch Treat potting soil and Canna-Terra conditioned with 1:10 of perlite. Find a nice loamy soil that will allow fast and easy root growth. When looking around and determining what a good loamy soil is, test by squeezing some of the soil in palm of your hand. It should smoosh, but when you open your hand it should re-expand. This is what you want. If it stays compact when smooshed, it's too dense and needs conditioning with perlite/bio char, coco...whatever you choose. I know this was a lot of info and maybe didn't scratch the surface of your question. It's a hard question as there are so many options out there. A decision has to be made on your end on what you'd prefer after doing some research on those trio lines, Cal Mag and neutral soils you find at your local hydroponics shop. Drop me a line if you want to talk further. Cheers! And happy trails😊

I just filled a pot with Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Started to Feed Nutrients (Green Planet 1 Part nutrient system) around 4 weeks. This was when I started to notice flower and slight yellowing of leaves.

From start to finish reliable fox farm ocean soil is an easy way to start. I mixed it with a 50/50 ratio of mother earth coco/perlite. This blend gave them a lot more root freedom and saved me on some soil usage. It simply just works which allows you to feed them with just plain PhD water for 3 to 4 weeks and then start of 1/4 strength by following a recommended feeding chart. Simple grow easy to manage.

There are so many varieties of there mate. I have heard good things about fox farm and biobizz. What I do, is mix coco, perlite, homemade compost and modify it with Epson salts, guano, myrochonza and Blood, fish and bone.

If I'm allowed to share my own opinion, I would say go with coco and very simple nutrients.I'm using Plagron Cocos Premium and some Plagron bottled nutrients.Works very well for me.It is very simple, you feed every watering with small amounts, have a good air circulation and a good light will work well for you too. Doesn't matter if it is auto or photo you are growing, coco is simply nutrient-free medium, you have the control over it. but if you want to go soil as traditional,Vincent is right,Biobizz is good and very easy to use for beginners.Since you are unsure about what to do,I highly recommend to use any brand's LIGHT MIX . Minimal amounts of nutrients in it for the first few weeks of a plant, then you start adding nutrients.Or you can choose to start feeding in week 1.I don't recommend prefertilized mixes as it will most likely burn your plant. It is up to you.I would go with coco.

Hi Jardine9 Soil If you going for Autoflowers I will suggest using BioBizz light mix. If you doing Photo plants you could use BioBizz All Mix. They both have PH regulation enzymes. About Nutrition I have done one grow with only BioBizz products and they worked great and easy to use really difficult to over feed. BioBizz range is great for beginners and are all Organic Products. Nutrition wise so many great products out there. Difficult to tell. Hope this is helpful and good luck.
