Does my tap water with 0.5 EC, pH 8.1 warrant the use of an RO system with Canna Coco nutrients or shall I use Canna pH Down to bring it down to 6.3?

you can use any acid to ph-balance it. don't overpay for "marijuana" branded ph-down... just buy some acetic acid - 5% white distilled vinegar - might need 2-3mL per gallon? pay 5 usd for 3 gallons, not 10-20 dollars for 16 fl oz with branding. those sellers are just raping consumers that don't know any better. .5EC is not so bad. You do not need an RO system. tap coming out at 8ish isn't unusual. It's better for the pipes if slightly alkaline. I have "harder" water than .5EC and don't have issues. if you are in a soilless medium, any fertilizer worth its weight will be ph-buffered and balanced -- meaning even using 8ph out of the tap it should come out to the right range of pH without any adjustment and it will be resistant to ph-drift (buffering part). you really shouldn't have to worry about it. if you do, i'd suggest a better fertilizer that puts a bit more effort into their soilless/hydro products. It's a headache that only comes with substandard soilless/hydro products.

I would just use a water filter, and I also like to bubble my water with the air setup for a few hours if I can. I have pretty hard water a few hundred ppm, and 8 alkaline range as well but with the filter, I don't need to adjust much at all and my poms are near zero with the simple inline garden filter. I just use my cal mag to ph down my water down to the perfect range in most cases

Messing with RO is a bunch of headaches. I would just adjust your tap water and that’s it. I hope you’re letting the chlorine bleed off for 24 hours before using your tap water. A PH pen will continually drift and never get a reading in straight RO and a PH pen should never be used in straight RO until you’ve added some type of minerals for the PH pen to be able to make an accurate reading.
