Is this a Male?

punktkomma
punktkommastarted grow question a day ago
Hey growers out there, all my plants already have white hairs, the TP1 doesn't have any yet. It also looks a little strange and I'm a little worried that it could be a male. What do you think? 😰 Its Tropicanna Poison XL Auto. Never had a male before, only banana herm stuff.

your plant is a bit different looking. Seems a sex organ has formed above the stipule but the fact it isn't showing a pair of pistils/stigmata at this stage of development is odd. Thankfully it doesn't look like it is projecting out from the stem - a male preflower will eventually be a set of 'grapses' projecting out from the stem on a twig, but the famale single calyx will rest right on the stem and only 1 per branch -- if you still have symmetrical growth, you'll have 2 at each node, and with asymmetrical it'll be 1 per node. In this case i'd pull off one of the preflowers and dissect it. You will easily discern between a buch of nanners or a fuzzy white hair inside -- the fuzzy white hair is female. You'll likely need some minimal magnification to see clearly. You won't need a microscope or anything heavy-duty. You can do this long before a hair pops out (F) or a set of grapes form (M) and if nothing is inside, then "plant bits" is plenty good enough description, lol, becuase if it doesn't have male or female anatomy in it, it is not a preflower. ----------------------- Not related to the answer --------------- On another note... lol the arrogance of some people... a bract is the leafy envelope. those pointy things under the 'preflower' are called stipules. No reason to call someone stupid or unknolwedgeable especially if mistaken yourself about this vocabulary. It's also quite hypocrital that shinsimilla makes everything personal and insults people instead of just stating their differeing opinion. Behaviour shinsimilla berates in the comments of GOTM context, so lets add hypocrite to the list of personality defects. Stipules are not sex organs nor related to them. They are present long before sexual maturity on the plant. https://www.druglibrary.org/olsen/hemp/iha/jiha5201.html https://homesteadandchill.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/sexing-cannabis-plants-anatomy-diagram.webp https://cannigma.com/plant/cannabis-plant-anatomy/ Can you find diagrams that fuck this up? yes, shinsimilla found one, lol. Even though i have a couple cannabis related websites i found one that is not, because most cannabis related websites deal in magic and nonsense. They misinterpret things because a 'bract' doesn't look the same on different species but provides the same function. It is the envelope around the sex bits (lol, hope that phrase upsets "shin") and not the stipule underneath it. https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.2g4zX_6vRdR1ifOQCfziYQHaKx?rs=1&pid=ImgDetMain -- BWAHAH lists stipules as bracts. Wherever this image comes from, they fucked it up. And, then to be so arrogant about it and to say someone doesn't know what they are talking about, lol... hilarious! organoman may not like me much but that doesn't change the fact that they are knolwedgeable about this plant. Most of his answers are fine and the ones i don't agree with are at least potentially correct more times than not, i.e. conflicting opinions in absence of quality research to prove one or the other correct. 2 wrongs don't make a right, but why try if it's a hopeless situation like shinsimilla being a dick to everyone and their mother, lol.

I love you 0010101010100101 😘 Bottom line is the plant quite clearly has preflowers, so punktkomma has nothing to worry about. His plant is a girl.

Organoman doesn't know basic plant anatomy. Everything in your images has a name, nothing is "undifferentiated growth" or "bits". Those are definitely preflowers above the bracts. Have a look at this diagram, it shows what I mean clearly with labels. https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.2g4zX_6vRdR1ifOQCfziYQHaKx?rs=1&pid=ImgDetMain

No signs to say it is a male........or a female as yet. Those weird growths are not strange female pre flowers, but something known as "undifferentiated vegetative growth"........in other words, not flowers, not leaves, but just plant "bits".

You're safe. I don't see any male flowers and is too early for nanners. Those are just strange looking preflowers with no pistils. Nothing to worry about.
