Let me add these IMO. Seedling - start in fibre cups if possible, then you can transfer the whole thing to your permanent soil. - Lightly "spray" distilled or purified water, over your seedling until it just quivers from weight of water droplets, then no more. . Then spray around the perimeter of the seedling until surface dampness (don't collapse the seedling). I do this twice a day, until ready to transfer the seedling. Use quality seedling soil for this. It drains well. Vegetative - I use fabric pots, to keep from drowning roots. When the plant is about 4-5 internodes, I use 1/2 gal water for 3 gal pots. When plant is above those internodes, I use a whole gal of water, even when feeding liquid nutes mixture. This will cause runoff, which helps to keep nutes, salts, minerals from accumulating near the bottom of the pot. The fabric sides along with the bottom, selfs drains, allowing roots to breathe, while also air-trimming your roots, to keep them from binding and circling around the walls of plastic pots. I use the 2 knuckle test in the soil to check for cool, but not damp soil. In my grow cabinets, that is 3-4 days, depending on internal temp. Flower - Same as for veg state. I hope this was not too wordy, or pressures you to buy certain products or do certain things you may not agree with.

depends on the consumption of each plant and the size of the pot. the best way to control it I think is by the weight of the pot. when the substrate is dry it becomes very light, try to orient yourself like this and you never have a problem with it again. Never soak to much the soil, roots need oxygen . Good luck
