Yeah he's right. You can't grow big plants in small pot with soil. Had you been using coco they could have gotten a lot bigger because you could water 2-3× a day.

If your plants are overfed, there are several options: 1. Check the ph of your runoff, to exclude that that is a problem. 2. Let the soil dry out a little, then water with ph'D water and ONLY water until the problem no longer persists (usually one week) 3. Water now with ph'd water and ONLY water. It will 'flush' the soil of excess nutrients. Prob should take em to the bath and run some water oh to 6.4 or so 2nd about them not fattening up. To get fat buds it is not just what you do in flower but the whole grow you can't just add nutrients and get fat buds. You have to make sure when there seedlings to keep there roots growing strong and stay white. Also the size of the pot matters alot the more real-estate you have for the roots the bigger the buds it can make. Not sure if tmyour growing autos or not but maybe try some photos and wait till there a decent size then flip them to flower. Autos are not very forgiving when you stunt them just a little they wind up really small
