At the beginning of this week, I have been fighting the gnats, which are less and less now. Just some watering and gradually lowering the light and going to full power. The Orange Hill Special has been filling out great and I must say, she is a pretty plant. With some manual bending and super cropping, I'm bending the longer stalks sideways and we are off. What I actually do is more of an intuitive hybrid between mainlining (where I bend the whole plant 90 degrees at the third week), LST (where I bend branches outward slightly, without tying), HST / Super crop (where I bend the stems 90 degrees with the clips or manually), after which I keep bending outward to SOG and, put the net over to end in SCROG. This same method gave me the canopy in my prize-winning Gelato 33 grow. Check it out if you haven't seen it, it was my first experimental accident that led to beta test of Super Soil mixture 0.7, now we are at Alpha version 1.00 and testing great so far if I say so myself. I haven't seen such lush greens in my own grows, only outdoor. They seem uber-healthy and resilient, with very sturdy stems and leaves. Way more resilient than previous strains I tested in the beta soil. The light is performing, the natural color of it makes everything pop. Mars Hydro has a winner with the SP-3000. Halfway through this week, I took the clips out, AND...... we switched them to go into flowering. After a day the stretch is already visible. I had to bend them again after a couple of days. Now we have almost a tent filling foundation for a maximum result canopy of buds. I was wanting to amend the soil with flowering additions (see recipe in yellow image), but I'm holding it off for two reasons. A/ The leaves are still so green and lush, I think there is an abundance of nutes. B/ @Haoss mentions his suspicions on his OHS grow (@#CannapediaProGrowersCup Orange Hill that very sadly went hermie on him) that nutrition in this phase could have had an influence, after asking what happened to him. I would have loved to see that grow to full harvest. But it makes me a bit cautious. if Haoss (whom I consider to be one of the star growers here) couldn't prevent this, what chance have I? I'm waiting until the girls start asking for nutrients. They'll show me what they need in their own time. For now this soil is the shizzle (also quite literally) and Im happy with how everything is going. I remember much more hassle and steering in the last grow. This grow, even the Gorilla runt seems happy. I now water them 3 liters of water / Perma tea mixture every 4 days, every 3rd watering I don't do the tea. This makes for fewer gnats and this soil seems to hold water nicely, also due to the hydro corn. What I like is there is always some unforeseen circumstance, a tilt of the tables, some battle to be fought which delivers in big harvests or, in worst case, no harvest at all. It makes it more exciting, when your heart is at stake, we pour a lot of love and attention in the ladies. So with hopes, but not too high, we go into flowering. May4: nice spring day so plants were outside in the afternoon. Some direct sun but also protected in small greenhouse. Light watering with some nutrients. I’m using Monster Maxx this year. I used a free sample of it last year making compost teas and it seemed to work great. Early to use any nutes but I think it is okay. This stuff has regular N fertilizer (nitrate, urea, and ammonia) but also two bacteria strains that have been shown to work. I was looking at last year’s roots today and they are the densest and most intricate I’ve seen, so I think this stuff works as advertised. Will still use compost teas later this season but for now this should do fine. Prepped most of the soil. Cannabis gets the Grade A+ soil, and tomatoes and peppers get last years cannabis soil and some fresh compost. May 9: weather is great so decided to transplant into the final container. Culled second seedling that was slower and had asymmetrical leaves. May 10: still misting leaves to provide moisture. So far so good.

How did you create/breed Freakshow? A. Methodical selection, line breeding, and culling is the short answer. Read our About page for more details. Q. Is it an indoor or outdoor type? A. Everything I've ever worked has been outdoors, including of course Freakshow. It has been our experience that outdoor (or sun grown, as it's recently being referred to) cultivars seem to perform extremely well under artificial conditions. No, the mature seeds are shrouded by a rice paper thin membrane which has coloring and mottling on it, but it's so fragile that it disintegrates in the process of shucking. Stripped of the outer layer the seeds are very pale, nearly white. It came as no surprise that this plant would have abnormal seeds. Q. Is it a GMO? A. Wow...? Well, it's seriously "modified" and the modifications are definitely genetic, and it is an organism. (Genuinely Modified Organically!) Uh, no. Q. Is it a big producer? A. Freakshow will produce nice, fat, dense colas (see gallery) with remarkable trichome coverage, and you can expect yields according to your veg. time, root space, and general knowledge and expertise as a gardener. The same set of variables apply to expected outcomes regarding cannabinoid levels and terpene profiles. Q.What is the lineage? A. (Bigbud x Skunk#1) x (Big Sur Holy Weed x Banana Kush). NLD("Sativa") dominant, but the afghanica influence is apparent. I'm pretty sure that Freakshow contains some Trainwreck and some Maui Wowie based on some research I did on the origins of the Pineapple Express. Interestingly Big Sur Holyweed, OG Kush, Banana, Trainwreck, and Maui Wowie are all of unclear origins. We have to remember that these are all just names and that they don't really mean much. The exact heritage of any cultivar today is impossible to determine accurately. Also, considering the amount of continuous shameless hybridization that has occurred in the last 40 yrs., any modern kind could easily contain over 40 kinds. In the case of Freakshow, it's much more limited because the ancestry is largely older "Sativas" that didn't go through as much outcrossing. In the 70s in Santa Cruz, Haze was a favorite among surfers for the pure energy and I still have (greatly improved) stock of it around, simply because even when I made hybrids with it I always kept the original in pure form for obvious reasons. Q. What is the psychoactive effect like? A. Like the flavors, many people have commented that the "buzz" is somewhat different than other mainstream types out there. It's not entirely out of the scope of imagination that given that this strain has new alleles in so many other respects, that it could also contain new, unique cannabinoids, as well as new and unique terpenoids, some of which may not even be among the standard 16 or so that the average lab is testing for. Aside from the up, cerebral, energetic boost, some report a mild time/space warp effect. Creativity and idea induction should be mentioned, for sure. Freakshow has the pure energy effect and greatly alters perception to the positive side, so definitely destroys depression. Appetite suppression is a side effect, but the enjoyment of food is enhanced. I personally will attest to all of the above. We all have different receptor profiles, so these are just generalizations. Couch unlock. Q. Is it pest and mildew resistant? A. Indeed it is. On many occasions in the last few years, it has been observed that when pest and mildew issues were affecting other plants adjacent to in the vicinity of Freakshow plants, for unknown reasons the freaks remained entirely unaffected. This includes 0botritis, PM, various mites and insects, soil fungus, etc. We haven't heard any complaints along those lines so far, so if anyone has any problems, especially with a rigorous IPM regimen in place, we would like to hear about it. And if anyone can attest to the extreme level of resistance it seems to have we'd love to hear about that as well. Q. Does it contain web-leaf genetics? A. I thought I better clarify this because there are a few people thinking that because of an article "Growing Marijuana that Doesn't look like Marijuana" that mentions that I had worked web-leaf types years ago and had eventually turned that into Freakshow. This is incorrect and I'm needing to get ahold of the writer to have him change it. When I read the piece and saw the mistake I figured it didn't matter that much, that the actual method of breeding could just remain a "trade secret". Recently, I noticed online that a posting, "Freakshow only exists because of duckfoot" by Curious Cannabis Connoisseur, where he explains how I developed Freakshow using Duckfoot. Let me explain, about 20 yrs. ago a friend gave me a jar of seeds labeled "BC Bigbud" and I sprouted flats of hundreds to look for oddities and had found one web-leaf pheno which we named Webster. It was a female so I bred it to a normal leaf male and began selecting and stabilizing a line of Webster. About 5 or 6 generations later I had nailed it to 100% webs and had also stabilized it for a deep purple color and a nice "gingerbread" terp profile. I was busy working other lines at that point so I put Webster in the library. Also, I was having a hell of a time getting a pheno of it that flowered to my satisfaction. (it seemed to finish with a limited number of calyxes). I knew I would have to outcross it to something with a big tasty bud and restabilize it for web-leaf, and I no longer had the original BC Bigbud. I still have the Webster seeds, and trust me the thought has crossed my mind to make the cross with Freakshow, but why? Why mess around crossing things just to create something even weirder? I have heard that the "Duckfoot" also doesn't bud up well so maybe there's a correlation there. Anyway, people can do what they want to and I will too, but crossing Freakshow with some low-THC crap like ABC is in my opinion idiotic. I worked extremely hard stabilizing and perfecting a beautiful new subspecies and I believe it should be kept pure. I won't go on a rant here about the rampant crossing and the lack of line-breeding in the cannabis world in the last several decades, or where this will eventually lead us, but I will say that it's not in a good direction. Bottom line....Freakshow has no web-leaf genes, it was made using top-grade tropical narrow-leaf drug (NLD) cultivars. Q.Why is Freakshow patented? A. Although I and most others (including all the folks at HSC) believe in and subscribe to the concept of "open sourcing" because sharing in cannabis genetics was always the cultural norm, it was decided that Freakshow should be protected (1) because it is a novel and unique, not a preexisting strain (or even subspecies), (2) To keep the greedy corporate big boys from exploiting it, (3) To maintain control of the genetic refinement of it in all future generations. 🌸 Week 6 – Gorilla Cookies Auto Pheno Hunt Another week is in the books and the differences between the phenos are becoming impossible to ignore now 👀🔥 Stretch has been very different across the plants and some phenos are clearly showing completely different growth patterns despite running under the same conditions. It’s getting easier every week to identify which phenos stay compact and bushy and which ones want to reach for the sky. 📈 Current observations: Pheno #3 and #4 have stretched aggressively and are now above 70 cm Pheno #5 took the lead and is currently sitting at around 101 cm 👀🔥 Pheno #1 and #6 are still in early flower / preflower and developing noticeably slower Plant architecture is becoming very clear now — some phenos are growing dense and bushy while others are showing strong vertical growth At this stage I already have clear favorites: ⭐ Pheno #4 and #5 are currently standing out the most for me in terms of structure, vigor, and overall development. Flipping to 12-12 today (the first clones will be for outdoors) made before and after videos of defoliation, and reppot. Blue Dream is cruising along nicely with a little LST bending of branches & stems,so all in all not a bad week..

Not much going on, the buds are getting fatter. There is now a faint smell. Some buds now getring some colour. Still taking feed probably at least 2 weeks left.

1 - (03/14) Starting my new seeds, my other order for the Barney's never came in the mail. Must be "lost"... Decided to go get something semi locally. Picked up 2 strains and got the free Early Miss as well. Germination has started as of 03/13, paper towel transfer at 03/14 (approximately 16 hours later). Tent is sanitized and the new LED I'll be running is almost here. (Decided to wait on the full spectrum) Following guidelines as per Crop Kings recommendation for germination. We'll see in the next 48 how well they have developed under the paper towel. This plant will be grown alongside the Early Miss and quite possibly the GSC from Sun West Genetics as well. The GSC and EM will have separate diaries, so be sure to check those out as well! This grown will be done in the Indo 4*2*5 tent. Waiting for those t roots to get a bit bigger yet. 3 - 03/17 - 72 Hours later, forgot to get in the tent and remoisten the paper towels last night, just got up at 4am and they were pretty dry. Tap root looks to have lost some moisture, I'm just hoping I didn't already fuck them up this time. Shouldn't have drank so much on my 30th. Happy Saint Patrick's day to y'all! Hopefully they suck up some water and bounce back by midday. Going to put them in jiffys or rock cubes tomorrow. 4 - 03/18 - Planted in their first pots. Due to the nature of my last grow, I've decided to start the other 2 girls in a jiffy. Placed the jiffy into a smaller pot (approx. .25g?) That is filled with my Mo Koko, gia green organics 4-4-4 all purpose, 40% worm castings and a higher 60-70% perlite ratio. I plan on testing the runoff from the pots and the Early Miss is in a felt pot, so I figured it would be a great idea to accommodate for the additional moisture those felt ones hang onto. Probably going to uproot the EM tonight and transfer it to a jiffy as well then get it into a plastic pot. (Edit - decided against it) I'm going to run two 3 gallon pot sizes for both of my autos and eventually upsize to a 5 gallon for the GSC PP. Going to get some nicer domes today. Getting pumped. Almost through the germination process and onto Day 1 of Veg. 😎 Video update later today! 5 - 03/19 - All the girls are popping up out of the soil and should shed the seedling casings within 24hrs. Off to a much better start! The EM somehow came out, big surprise to see it. Not as pronounced as the other girls, but nonetheless. Stoked. Ended my day by them officially being in Veg Day 1. 6 - 03/20 - Well yesterday was officially day 1 of week 1 in Veg and as of this morning all 3 girls look great. Definitely feeling more confident this time through. 7 - 03/23 - Made some adjustments to the diary, measured the girls and corrected my Veg days. Moving forward, I'll do week to week updates on the girls and daily pictures of growth progress. 8 - 03/26 - Day 7 for all the girls. CC is definitely on the weakest link list. The EM has shocked me entirely. GSC is progressing as I figured she should. Today I am finally going to scoop my new light. 6/29/2021 - New mains for quadlining growing out nicely since topping. - Watered with un-PH'd de-chlorinated tap water. - Foliar fed with DIY kelp extract. - She's jumping out the gym, very excited. - It's been 5 weeks of alternating DIY nutrient teas (coconut water + kelp extract + neem & karanja extract + water) and un-PH'd Toronto tap water, and I've seen no signs of deficiencies or lockouts. - She's taking well to the various DIY foliar sprays as well, no burning. 7/1/2021 - I think one of my bottle sprayers is infected with butyric acid, 'cause it stinks in here, loll. - SHE WANTS TO GROOOWWW! 7/4/2021 - Growth a week after topping is strong. Hoping the auxins in the kelp foliar, and nutrients in coconut water are responsible. - I barely need to train her right now, it's as if she wanted to be topped. Besides some periodic light bending, she seems to be leveling out her branches herself.
