Weekly update: August 6th Looking great, major spurt of growth on both girls, #1 (sativa leaning girl) had major final stretch to end off stretch in 3 days (hopefully). And #2 (stockier indica leaning pheno) has had a big increase in flower size in 3 days which is promising, and is also producing a very sweet and tropical fruity gas smell, this is TCP after all! Oh yea and I’m running about 1700 center 500 outer ppfd and tapering down if I see anything but nothing so far all good nice genetics, may drop in the next week even if no signs or symptoms, to prevent and not be too greedy. Now for the not so good… been getting 10% runoff almost every feed, but my runoff of #1 was 3500ppm and pH 4.5 and #2 at 5000ppm and pH 4.5. Been giving around 850 ppm input at pH 6.0, never went over 1000ppm input. So I have to correct with 25% increase in feed volume, 300-400ppm input at pH 7.0 for what I infer to be 2-3 feeds until runoff ppm is significantly lower, and pH is at least 5.5. UPDATE Aug 8: To address the toxic/locked-out root-zone I did a regular feed with runoff (1.5 gal total volume per pot @ 820ppm bloom focus), runoff consisted of pH 4.2-4.5 and 4000-6000ppm... OUCH. I then fertigated with 0.5 gal plain pH 6.5-7 dechlorinated tap water each. I repeated this a total of 3 times, to which the last flush had 3 ml/gal cal-mag. final runoff ppm @ 1000-2000, pH 5.3-5.5. To conclude, I more than likely wasn't achieving enough runoff per scheduled feed, and did not cycle a few plain pH adjusted waterings. I had almost the same thing happen last run with autos, except they were showing signs of lockout, these photo girls are not. I must do a regular watering every 3 feeds, achieve 20% runoff with high ppm feeds, and 15% runoff at least with mild to moderate ppm's. Lesson learned, I hope I get a full run in the future without hiccups like this. week 2 of flower, been able to line up compost teas with feeds so they get nutes, nutes, RO+TEA, Repeat. foliar last times this week, I stop spraying anything on week 3! showed how i like to shake them up with the scrog a bit in last vid. I do that to essentially simulate a wind storm, strengthen stalks and roots, also helps reorganizing the canopy as you sorta shake things into place that were bunched up next to neighboring leaves. next week will do a fairly heavy defoliation to allow better airflow around colas

The girls is grow well, the bud look biggest this weed. Some leaves especialy the bottom leaves have started to become yellow surely because of the light penetration. However everything look good for me

I let the soil start to dry after a week of just water, hung them upside down for 14 days 18-26°c 60%RH. The tremors got higher than I would like during drying but it is summer!

11.8 - D50/F2 - Things with these two are swell. The massive leaf duo are on 12/12 now and separated into different tents on 11.8. I kept the smaller of the two in the 5x4 with ten other 5 gallon plants. Hoping this doesn’t lead to too much crowding, but have started to set 14” support rings to help with training. The larger one is in the 3x3 with four 3 gallon plants, including two autos that should finish well before the 9lb becomes unmanageable I mulched with Organic Maine Enriched Mulch so hopefully lose less water to evaporation, then dosed with a new product by NLS as an amendment to boost flowering. The ingredient list on this pack is amaze and you can’t even begin to imagine how it smells haha. As I’ve said before, their products “stank so good”. 11.10 - D52/F4 - All defoliated and stretching!

Harvest: Everything dried up to 347 grams + 96 grams of super high quality trim. Overall I am not too pleased with the smoke of the product. Although the bud size, bag appeal, smell and taste are pretty much all there, the shitty burn is a deal breaker for me and the majority of this weed is quite frankly useless. Another downside is while smoking I’ve found 4 seeds in an ounce from almost every strain. Light leaks? At least I learned a ton, including how to get super good burn for my next crop. I’m hoping that curing for a month or so will improve the burn but I wouldn’t really count on it. I have seen weed dried for 4 days with no cure and no flush smoke clean and not go out once. I have been told that the key to white ashes/clean burn is proper mineral content in the soil and there is tons of scientific studies on cigar ash going back 100 years. Plants grown in a medium with high levels of decomposing organic matter, phosphorus, magnesium, chlorine and heavy metal ratio tend to produce black/grey ash. Whereas plants grown in a medium with a higher ratio of trace minerals like calcium carbonate and potassium in the form of wood ash, rock dusts, oyster shell flour and lower levels of decomposing organic matter will produce a dense, uniform white ash that rarely goes out. But this is still all theory until I test it to confirm for myself a few times. My last few outdoor harvests did not improve with curing at all so I’m hoping this will be the missing link. Plain peat moss and coco clearly lack essential minerals that help burn. If said theory is correct I should find a synthetic nutrient line with more trace minerals. Makes me wonder if growing if rockwool/basalt rock could improve burn in a hydro setup. I think I did a fairly decent job for my first grow. I went wrong in a million different places but I still stuck it out and got some decent herb. Things went wrong early when I got black spot mold, nitrogen/magnesium deficiencies and powdery mildew. I corrected most of it but things didn’t get really bad until mid veg when I intentionally skipped a few feedings and defoliated quite heavily stunting the plants. I also didn’t even top or start LST until the 6-9th node which was really stupid and hurt my yield. My temperatures were all over the place from the learning curve. I was severely overwatering without realizing it. 100% peat moss is a shitty medium. I also fed way too late in flower (not what caused shitty burn). I also used synthetic nutrients in soil. She is ready to rock into flowering, it’s going to be a 🤡 show here in this tiny 3x3’ in about 3-4 weeks. Already you can see there isn’t much room. She received heavy foliar of Mg. Found out my organic calmag only consisted of 1% Mg not sufficient and obviously even at minimum recommend was not sufficient. Using all these root stimulants also are making her drink and absorb at an unbelievable rate. At 6 weeks tomorrow she takes in 2.3L per day!!! Automatic watering system would be welcomed with recommendations, Stay safe and keep it green!
