This is my first grow ever. (Except for a plant that accidentally grew off my deck years ago). Being a complete newb, I confess that I am having a hard time leaving them the F^&*k alone. I bought the seeds through Seedsman and that was a positive experience. I started with 5 of these seeds. The first two I put in water for 18 hours then into rapid rooters. 6 days later I became disheartened because I nothing was happening and started 2 more seeds via the wet napkin method. The latter showed tap root in about 2 days and were placed in rapid rooters. Having no luck with the former, I removed the seeds from the RR and proceeded to drop them both on the floor. I could not find them to save my life as the carpet is the best damn camouflage imaginable for a seed. Three days after losing them I was able to recover one by running a lint roller over the area. (I must warn the reader that running a lint roller on the floor, under your desk is a pretty eye opening experience and will make you feel rather like a pig). It being now about 15 days since I first tried to start the errant seed, I gave up, through it in an old rapid rooter and just set it on the clay pebbles in the grow closet. After two days I picked it up to toss it and was pleasantly surprised to see about 2" of tap root sticking out the bottom. I am sure there are several morals in this story but in any case, I promise not to be so verbose in the future !

Note that I have two plants in one hydro farm. The small plant is 5 days younger, as many parents experience it was an accident, but I love her nonetheless. I hate to toss one, but have nowhere else to grow it. Can I grow both in the same pot ?

You can grow multiple plants in one hydro system, just remember to check on the water level in the tank more often since they will eat faster, the bad thing about 1 tank with multiple plants is in my experience- when something fucks up then everything fucks up- for example rot root (happened to me, air pump broke down in a tank with 6 plants...3 week flower...worse day in my career as grower). If the older plant is bigger, then i would HST or TOP it to stun it a little, so the other one can catch up :) just control it and it will be fine

Plant #1 and #2 germinated at the same time , plant #3 a week later. The seed for #2 was half the size of seed #1 and seed #3. Plant #2 shows some lack of symmetry compared to plants #1 & #3. Also , plant #2 is considerably shorter than plant #1 or even plant #3, and the stem is a light green color compared to the slightly purple_ish color of the other two. I am wonder if they had a seed mix up or is this just a variation in the strain ? Time will tell I guess.

Plant #1 hit a milestone this week as the roots finally made it to the water reservoir. Plant #2 is experience plenty of new growth but is not getting bigger. Plant #3 ...one week the junior of the other two is starting to grow a bit quicker. Is now larger than #2. All in all I am pretty happy. Added a couple of USB driven fans to the enclosure .

Well last week I installed a small RO system that gives me 4 TDS in my feed-water. Added CalMagic at full strength to compensate. The plants are really starting to "drink" a lot more during this growth spurt. I think I am going to patent an idea. That is to included fidget spinners or games boys on the grow lights and pots in order to distract me from fiddle f$%^ing with the plants :) Tip of the day ...Don't use pipe cleaners for low stress tie down when using a drip ring. My pipe cleaners were getting dripped on and wicked about a half gallon of water into my catch basin ...in just a matter of hours. If other's experiences are any indication, I should start flowering in about a week. Fingers crossed

Well the plants really seem to rocking this last week. They have just entered early flowing stage , I will graduate them to a flowering report next week. I am a bit concerned that I am getting leaves turning yellow at the bottom of the plant. These are the big fan leaves and I do note that they don't get much light down there. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have also noticed a leaf or two that looks nibbled on but I will be damned if I can find any culprits. I went to rotate the pot and broke a big branch off plant #3 that got tangled in a wire :(

These last two weeks the growth has been explosive. Gained nearly 18" on plant #1 and about 10" on plants #2/#3. All the plants have become extremely bushy and completely fill the grow space such the the leaves at the canopy are impinging hard against the walls . The grow space is 37" x 17" x 80" . I am almost out of head room to move the lights up any further. Moreover, the canopy is so dense that no light is reaching the lower parts of the plant. I have added to 2 x 26W bulbs to the light fixture. I am amazed at the number of bud sites :) I have 2 concerns at this point. Plant #1 has lost about half of it's lower foliage do to yellowing of the leaves . Plants # 2/3 have had a few losses but nothing like #1. My first suspicion is that the lower leaves are just not getting light. I have tucked leaves like crazy up top but the only way to correct this would be an aggressive defoliation, I am loath to do this for a variety of reasons especially with me losing many leaves on their own. I am also bumped up the nitrogen and iron a bit on plant #1 to see if that helps. PH is right on target at 5.6. Concern number 2 is that I have caught a black fly or two but I will be damned if I can find an aphid despite a very thorough scanning of steams and leaves ...

Plant #1 I think has reached its final height almost no vertical growth the last two days. They are really starting to bud out and I fatten a bit . Based on what I have read, I am expecting about 77 days from seedling to harvest. That means I have 3 weeks left before a week of flushing. I am excited and concerned that the buds will not have time to fatten up . I can see a lot of hairs but no resin.

Had a bit of a scare ...Found what I originally thought were male sacks all over the plants, on closer inspection I have convinced myself that they are just swollen calyxes ... I am about 8 weeks into the grow from when the seedling went into the grow room and about 3~4 weeks into the flowering ....I would like to ask those with experience to look at the pics and give a rough estimate as to how long the plants will be before they are ready to harvest. I am trying to judge when to start the Powdered KoolBloom and then flush. I know , I know but just your best estimate based on the buds. The trichs are about 70% cloudy, .

Well we are now 9 weeks in and the colas are really starting to look better . Plant one has about 30% clear/ 80% cloudy Trichomes on the top buds while the lower buds are 50/50. I have seen one or two amber on the most mature buds. The hairs are about 30% brown 70% white. The trichs have become amazingly swollen on the mature buds. I am thinking two more weeks tops for #1 plant . My plan was to run 10 days with Powdered Koolbloom and 4 days of flushing with plain water. Any thoughts on my timing ? 😁

Happy Harvest Day!

With this being my first grow I am a bit reluctant to comment on the grow ability and resistance as I have no baseline to comp[are it too. Of the 5 seeds only 3 germinated and I suspect that I drowned the other 2. One plant was a runt compared with her Sisters and clearly a bit different through the whole grow. Lots of mistakes on my part throughout the grow but the plants seem to keep chugging along. Plant #1 Was the star child and had her own pot the entire grow, yielding about 3 oz of dry bud (I am still giggling about that). Plants #2&3 shared a pot and were crowded, but I suspect that they will yield about 3 oz between the two of them. I am using multiple harvests of the plants and that has gone very well.

@BucketBrigade, Thanks brother, overall I am very happy with the results. I am a bit behind in my updating but I think I am going to get about 6 oz dry of quality bud from the three plants and about another oz of smallish buds that are being left to mature a bit. I am a watching your Auto clones with interest :)

Looking good, They should start putting on some weight the next couple weeks, i'm in the same boat, hoping my plants buds will start swelling soon ,
AfricanGreen
AfricanGreencommented7 years ago
@Unfazed, I Can relate to that as well, It seems each day nothing is happening when constantly looking and tending to the plants. Then you go away for 3-4days and when you get back it looks like an explosion.

@AfricanGreen, I just went over and browsed your diaries ...you have some that look exactly where mine are at ! As I browse a lot of the diaries I am developing a condition that can only be described as "bud envy". What would Freud say ? Good luck over the next few weeks and hope you are the envy of everyone's eye !

Ok I see now, your space is definitely limited. So keep track of the growth measurements and plan ahead and anticipate their final size. That may help with deciding if to keep the accident inside there or to remove her. Happy growing to you.

@Unfazed, Ha I bet not to many of us here have our contractors licenses so its a try, mess up and learn process for most of us. Ive got an odd ball plant too! Its got unusual leaf patterns, uneven new growth patterns etc. I think she might have just been a runt seed with uncommon phenotypes.

@Experimentgreen, Thanks, I have actually updated the inside of the grow closet. I loved building the thing but there is nothing like a little practical experience to point out my Engineering shortcomings. I have moved the pump off of the ground and I could actually get another pot in the room . I am going to carry on for now. The number 2 plant was the odd ball from the start of germination ... Her leaves were a bit misinformed ...she never gained any height although she is bushy and producing nodes like crazy, they are so tightly packed I am not sure I can even train her. With all that said, I cant help but wonder maybe her genetic shortcomings will be offset with super duper potent buds ....lol hope springs eternal * passes the joint*

You don't need bloom nutes, your plants don't have a proper set of leaves, yet alone buds ;)

@bobo420, Bobo, thanks for the comment. I am using a modified feeding chart from GH site cut . It showed using the trio in equal parts starting out .. I note it may be unnecessary, but do you think it is doing any harm ?

I'm new to the grow journal but from my years of experience you can have two plants in one pot just make sure they are spaced as far apart as possible and train them to grow away from each other, or my wife came up with the divider idea as I have done to my countless times and I've had no problems, either way I've experimented with this and when done with soil or soiless the roots tend to find their way past the divider unlike hydro because the roots usually prefer to grow Down the netted pots one they've reached the divider.

Could you take the accidental plant out into a small pot that isn't hydroponic...let it grow, maybe there's a tiny spot in your room it could sit and have a little light of her own? Maybe that's not recommended mixing grow styles in one room...but at the least she could grow slowly and be used for clones for the next grow?

Unfazedcommented7 years ago
@Experimentgreen, My problem is that my grow must remain totally out of sight in order to remain happily married. Any light, scent or sound may waft away my marital bliss. I spent a fortune accomplishing this with the grow cabinet. I am thinking now that her and her little sister will share a room . I may gussy them up with a little main lining or at least topping just to experiment. They are autos so cloning isn't an option.. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Growing 2 plants in the same pot is typically not recommended. The plants can start fighting for nutrients and/or become root bound. Do you have a 3rd pot you could use? If not, I guess you could try growing them together, but I’ve never tried it personally.

I've been using all 3 colors based on the GH label and all is well. I had planted kale previously and initially only used green, when I later added the other two, she started growing faster and looked a little healthier. I decided to carry that over to my tangerine dream. So far, so good. I must say, all of yours look happy. Good luck!

Regrettably, I don't have a third pot nor the room to add a third pot. Outside isn't an option as the is a super double top secret grow. I see no hurry in making a decision as it would probably be weeks before they compete for room and nutrients. but your thoughts were appreciated.
the end.
