Day 1 (3/22/21)
Planted seedling
Day 3 (3/24/21)
Seedling sprouted from soil. I spray with distilled water every couple hours to keep the medium moist. Maintaining temperature at 75 degrees during the day and 71 degrees at night. Humidity is being maintained around 75%.
4/4 - Day 14
Into week 2 of veg and my girl is making good progress. I planted her in a mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest, perlite and a little bit of compost. Only been watering with distilled water, just enough to make the top soil moist. Temperature has remained consisted at about 76 degrees during the day and 71 degrees at night. Humidity is being maintained around 71%.
4/11 - Day 21
One of the big takeaways from the pitfalls of my last grow is that I spent far too much time trying to baby my plants during the late veg and early flowering period. I was feeding nutrients way to early and was also over supplementing with nutrients like Cal-mag out of a concern that they weren't receiving enough of these minerals given that I was watering with distilled water.
On this grow, I am taking a more casual approach. I'm loosely following the guidance of Mr. Grow It which means I am using FF Ocean Forest soil and I am going to hold off on feeding soon where between day 30-40 - depending on how my girl looks.
For now, I'm simply watering with a sprayer, enough to keep the first couple inches of soil moist. Temperature is maintained within the range of 73 - 83 degrees and humidity remains constant at around 70%.
Plant is looking happy and healthy so far.
4/17 - Day 27
Seeing great growth over the last week- a little less than an inch per day. Main stem has 5 nodes with the 6th one just starting to form. The guidance I've read around topping is to target either the 4th, 5th or 6th node but make sure to do it before 7 nodes. I'm trying to keep my girl as compact as possible so I topped her today just above the 4th node.
Up until now, I've been mostly watering via a hand pump sprayer a couple times a day in order to keep the soil moist but haven't watered using any significant quantities. Today I decided to ease into my nutrient regimen with a half dose of FF Big Bloom (3mL) and Great White (1/2tsp) per gallon of water. The solution had a pH of 6.8. Prior to making the solution, I did a pH test on a soil slurry and it read 6.1. Since I'm targeting a pH of 6.5, I decided not to adjust the pH of my solution. Of the gallon solution, I gave her 1.5L (6 cups), enough to produce some runoff. The runoff pH was 5.8 so a bit more acidic than I was hoping for. Plants look super healthy and happy so not going to fret about it at this point.
This evening, I waited until minutes before the dark cycle began to top my girl. I hear that this can be beneficial for recovery.
4/18 - Day 28
Plant looks great. The nub where I topped already seems to be recovering nicely.
4/25 - Day 35
Plants continue to look great, nice green color and no signs of deficiencies. Keeping with the trend of prior weeks, I'm not going to try to load my girl up with nutrients as my experience from the last grow taught me that I I went a little too hard, too fast. For now, I am simply watering and monitoring pH and PPMs.
On this day, I watered with a half gallon of distilled water that was pH'd to 6.1. I got the following runoff readings:
- pH: 5.9
- 1990ppm
- 3.9EC
Given the TDS readings, it appears that there is plenty of food in the medium which only confirms my approach to take it easy.
4/28 - Day 38
I did a light feeding today which consisted of 10ml of FF Big Bloom. My solution had a reading of:
- pH: 6.6
- .9 EC
- 491ppm
After watering with about a half gallon of solution, my runoff was reading:
- pH: 6.0
- 2810ppm
- 5.6EC
5/1 - Day 41
I flipped my light cycle to 12/12 to induce flowering
5/7 - Day 47/Day 7 Flower
Saw the first signs of pistils, right on schedule. I noticed that my leaves were coming in with a much lighter green color over the course of the week. Out of an abundance of caution, I gave my girl a light feed with a solution of:
- 5ml of FF Grow Big (1/3 recommended dose)
- 5ml of FF Tiger Bloom (1/2 recommended dose)
- 10ml of FF Big Bloom (2/3 recommended dose)
The solution readings came back as:
- 6.4pH
- 1.1 EC
- 585ppm
My runoff reading was:
- 6.2pH
- 2500ppm
- 5.0EC
The runoff readings are still a bit high for my liking but I wanted to make sure that my girl would have adequate nitrogen going into flower. Additionally, I top dressed the medium with some dolomite lime as I have been having trouble getting the pH to stay above 6. Hopefully this will mitigate any potential issues with potassium as well as provide some magnesium supplementation which could be needed, given that I have been watering with distilled water.
I also started introducing some LST to widen out the branches and even out the canopy.
5/14 - Day 54/Day 14 Flower
Water uptake is increasing significantly. Been watering about a half gallon to a gallon every 3 days. Stretch has started to begin so I've been starting to get more aggressive with the LST. Darker green color has started to return to the leaves. No signs of deficiencies and my girl looks happy and healthy.
Dates: 5/17 - 5/23
Total Days: 57 - 63
Flowering Days: 17 - 23
No major changes this week. I've been simply watering my girl about every 2-3 days, usually about a half gallon to a gallon of distilled water. Didn't feed any nutrients as the TDS reading on my runoff has me right in the sweet spot (1100). Same with my pH - ever since I top dressed with dolomite lime, my runoff hasn't strayed much further than 6.3-6.5. The real proof is in how the plant is looking. No signs of deficiency or stress from what I can tell.
Dates: 5/24 - 5/30
Total Days: 64 - 70
Flowering Days: 24-30
Based on last week's PPM reading and the amount of water I've been giving this thirsty plant on a 2-3 days basis, I figure the plant is about as hungry as it is thirsty. Also seeing some signs of potential phosphorus deficiency on lower leaves so decided to give my girl a feeding on 5/25. The solution consisted of:
- 1 gallon distilled water
- 10ml of Big Bloom (2/3 recommended dose from FF Feeding schedule)
- 10ml of Tiger Bloom (full recommended dose)
The solution was pH'd to 6.3 and the TDS gave me a reading of 547ppm/1.1 EC. I fed with about 4/5ths of a gallon to induce runoff. The runoff readings came in with a pH of 6.4 and a TDS reading of 1230ppm/2.5 EC. This is pretty close to the range I'm trying to maintain so very happy with the readings.
Plant looks great, buds are starting to beef up a little bit now. The top leaves near the bud have a shimmery glisten, looks like it has been dusted with sugar.
6/1 - Day 72/Day 32 Flower
Was only planning on doing a simple watering on this day to get some runoff readings. I gave my girl a 1/2 gallon of distilled water and got the following readings back:
- 6.2 pH
- 782ppm
- 1.6 EC
This was a pretty low reading given that I am trying to maintain a nutrient level somewhere between 1200 and 1600ppm. I suspect that some of the deficiencies I am seeing in the leaves are due to lack of nutrients so I mixed up a solution consisting of the following:
- 1 gallon of distilled water
- 10ml Tiger Bloom
- 15ml Big Bloom
Solution came back with a reading of:
- 6.4pH
- 538ppm
- 1.1EC
I fed my girl another 3/4 gallon of water and the runoff came back with a reading of 1650ppm. Seems like I either misread the initial runoff or overshot the nutrients. Either way, my girl has plenty of nutrients for now.
6/3 - Day 74/Day 34 flower
Still seeing some chlorosis in the leaves and I suspect it has to do with a magnesium deficiency. End up feeding with a half gallon of distilled water mixed with 5ml of CalMag. Hopefully this will do the trick.
6/7 - Day 78/Day 38 Flower
Lower leaves continue to show signs of a deficiency but haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing it. I watered with a gallon of distilled water today in order to induce runoff. I got the following readings:
- pH: 6.3
- PPM: 1530
- EC: 3.1
My PPM reading is about 120 less than last week which tells me that my girl is still feeding but not nearly at the rate that I would have anticipated this late in flower. I'm going to hold off on supplementing with any additional nutrients until I get down to 1200. Given how much time is left in flower (3 weeks), I doubt I'll hit that threshold before my flush. Going to continue just watering and watching pH.
I've noticed that the smell has started to dissipate a bit over the last few weeks. I've had a stint of a few hot days where the tent was registering temps in the 90s. I'm hoping that I didn't compromise my terpene production. Only time will tell.
6/12 - Day 83/Day 43 Flower
Starting to see signs that my leaves are entering the fade so decided to take a peak at my trichomes to see how close I am to harvest. I'd estimate the ratio of clear to cloudy trichomes to be at about 60% to 40%. Seeing a few amber heads but they are few and far between. Forgive the potato quality of the trichome pics - need to work on my photo technique.
Based on the guidance from ILGM, the flowering period is expected to last 9 weeks and I'm right at the tail end of week 6. Given my current progress and how my trichs are looking, I'd expect that I'll be in a position to do a final flush next weekend. I'm going to hold off on feeding any further nutrients from here on out so that I can reduce my PPM count and have my girl ride out the remaining nutes in the soil. Based on my readings from early in the week, seems like there is still plenty of food in the medium.
On a positive note, I noticed that the smell returned last night! Assuming I corrected the problem that cause the smell to dissipate over the last couple weeks - I am looking forward to a pungent yield in a couple weeks!
6/18 - Day 89/Day 49 Flower
Not much to provide as far as updates today. I've been steadily watering my girl every 2 days with about a half gallon of distilled water. As of Monday (6/21), I am expecting to be about 2 weeks away from flower. My girl is starting to fade heavily now. As you can see from the pictures I took from today, the leaves around one of my colas are taking on a deep purple color with a dramatic contrast to how it looked just 5 days ago.
Looking at the trichomes, most are still clear but gradually becoming more and more cloudy. The buds are starting to plump up and I've had to reinforce the stems so that they can handle the extra weight. Overall, looking very promising for a harvest in another couple weeks.
6/25 - Day 96/Day 56 Flower
My girl has been thirsty so I've been steadily watering every 2-3 days. She is deep into the fade at this point. What's been really interesting is that I introduce a COBB LED a few weeks ago and all of the colas that are under that light have been taking on deep purple leaves while all of the colas that have been under my SF-1000 LED have remained largely green.
At this point in the grow, I would have expected more trichomes to be cloudy (and even see some amber ones). According to ILGM, I should be ready to harvest by next week but based on how the trichomes are looking, I may be looking at week 10-11. Lots of clear heads are still present and only a few traces of amber.
The smell has been pretty muted which have been a bit of a concern. The northeast has been experiencing a few heat waves over the last couple of weeks so it's been a challenge to keep the temperature below 80. There were a few days where the temps got in to the low 90s in the tent and I suspect that some of the terpenes have burned off. I've been keeping the tent open during the day to keep the environment cool but there are a few more days of 90+ temps coming and without proper cooling, I fear that I'll be losing more terpenes over the coming days. Such a shame.
Smell aside, the colas are super dense and are plumping up nicely. Hopefully I can mitigate some of the damage during dry and cure.
6/28 - 7/4
No major changes this week. Been consistently watering, usually about a half gallon to a gallon every couple days. No more feedings.
My girl is really fading hard at this point. I would have expected that she would have been putting off a lot more smell at this point. Given that there were a number of hot days where temps inside the tent were flirting with 90 degrees late in flower, I am resigned to the fact that it caused some terps to evaporate. Hoping I'll be able to salvage what's there during dry and cure.
7/11 - Day 112 / Day 72 Flower
It's harvest day! Gonna give my girl the chop today and start the dry process. Despite her muted smell she's looking beautiful and the trichomes and perfectly ripe. Planning to dry for about 7-10 days before I trim and cure.
While I think there are still things I can improve on my growing technique, I'm happy with how this girl came out.
7/8 - Day 109 / Day 69 Flower
I'd estimate that the trichomes are about 90% cloudy and 10% amber. Decide to stop watering and put my girl into darkness for the next few days.
