California Dream and AK 47 First Grow

HomerAndAbe Seeds were started outdoor in their final medium. After the first week, I decided that there wasn't long enough sun cover to make this viable. This, combined with the public nature of growing outdoors in the suburbs, led me to purchase a tent and lights.

HomerAndAbe The AK 47 had an issue with one of the leaves. I believe it got damaged at the base which is causing it to only grow on one side. I don't believe this will be an issue once the next set is fully grown. I am currently watering with 6.3 PH water with no nutrients. The plants are in FFOF so I shouldn't need nutrients for a little while. I purchased a 36x20x62 tent to grow in my spare bedroom. I am currently using a Viparspectra PAR 450 light for veg. I have a 310W actual draw custom LED setup that will go in when I switch to flower.

HomerAndAbe My two plants have started showing their first set of 5 finger leaves. Pretty soon I can say they are fully into vegetation. Currently under Viparspectra PAR450 light at 30%red/100%white/100%blue which is pulling about 190w. Recently purchased four 100w LED boards to have about 310 watts of lighting for flowering.

HomerAndAbe Began feeding 1/4 strength veg nutrients because growth has slowed slightly. I topped for the first time and will begin LST once these the two tips grow out a little bit. Day 23 - Increased nutrients to 1/2 strength. Plants seem to not mind. Watering volume increased to 2L every few days. Nutrients every other watering. Day 24 - I began LST. It is a little bit early, but should be alright. Plants are getting pretty wide so I have moved my solo cup herbs out of the pots. Day 28 - Came back from a two day trip to find that my plants have completely filled in after the LST. I can't go much wider with the plants until they grow above the height of the pot. I will probably wait a bit before pulling them wider again.

HomerAndAbe Day 30 - Came back from a work trip to find more growth and the plant spreading out a bit. I am attempting to fill in the open areas on the sides of the pots. I exposed some more of the lower growth tips by spreading the plant out with more stakes. I am going to put the scrog netting about 12 inches above the base of the plants, so I will need them to have more vertical growth. I have turned up the red spectrum to help the plant stretch. Day 31 - I installed my SCROG net and will hopefully grow into it in the next week. Day 33 - I noticed some asymmetrical growth, so I decided to see if I could find some calyxes. There are a few that have shown up on certain nodes.

HomerAndAbe Day 37 - I swapped to my flowering lights to see if they would help. Since they are mostly red spectrum, I do not think they would help veg much. Wattage was 192 on my veg light and 310 on my flower light. Day 38 - My tent temperatures increased by 5 degrees with the flower lights so I turned them off and went back. I ordered a window A/C for when I switch to flower. Dosed nutrients with a half gallon of water each. Day 40 - I decided that I will switch to flower on Sunday. Some of the main branches are getting too tall so I did a little bit of supercropping to bend them down and slow growth. Watered with a half gallon per plant. Day 41 - Switched to flower.

HomerAndAbe Day 45 - Initiated flowering on Sunday. Plant is adding height a little faster than before. I may not have enough growth tips to completely fill the ScrOG but that is alright with me. Day 49 - Came back from out of state and the plant was mildly wilted from not being watered for 2 days. I added a half gallon each and they bounced back pretty quickly.

HomerAndAbe Day 51 - More pistils have been coming in all over the place. I am not experiencing a lot of stretch just yet but have filled in most of the canopy. Fed the plants nutrients with some minor adjustments. Some of my leaves look to have too much nitrogen so I reduced the FloraGro. Day 52 - Some of the shorter growth tips are struggling to make it up above the screen. Hopefully they will fill in before the stretch is done. Day 54- Did some defoliation to open up the canopy and hopefully help the last few growth sites come up.

HomerAndAbe Day 57 - It looks like the plants are finally stretching. Some of the growth sites have increased about .5" in height over the weekend. I may switch my light cycle to turn on at 6PM rather than 9AM to take advantage of cooler temperatures. It has gotten so hot outside that my AC is running constantly. Day 63 - Came back from being gone for a few days and fed the plants. They were a little droopy from not being watered for 3 days. I purchased a macro lens for my phone to take trichome shots.

HomerAndAbe Day 66 - The CD has developed a nitrogen deficiency so I have doubled the FloraMicro dosage for this plant. The AK seems to be doing fine. Day 67 - The increase in N doesn't seem to have done much. I still have more leaves yellowing and drying off. Buds are still getting bigger, though. Day 70 -I was likely mistaken with my original diagnosis of a nitrogen deficiency. KindBudz has diagnosed this issue as a potassium deficiency, which seems like and looks somewhat similar. I gave the plants an extra dose of FloraBloom today to hopefully correct it. I will increase the regular dosage to 3/4 tsp/gal.

HomerAndAbe Day 71 - Increased bloom nutrients and molasses. I probably need to increase nitrogen for now, as well. Day 72 - Plain water. Plants seem to need to be watered more frequently, now. More leaves going yellow. Day 74 - Increased nutrient dosage. CD leaves are still yellowing. Day 76 - Plain water. Increased the watering amount to 1 gallon per pot. Cut down my cover plants and added them as mulch to help with water retention. Day 77 - Gave 0.25 gallons each with 1 a dose of recharge.

HomerAndAbe Day 78 - Installed Blumats to take over watering duties since I will be gone for almost a week. Increased nutrients again. Buds are very slowly getting larger. Day 79 - It looks like yellowing has slowed or stopped for now. The increased nutrients don't seem to be causing any burn. Day 81 - Plants seem to have mostly recovered from their deficiencies. I am not noticing any new yellowing or leaves dying. Added nutrients. Day 83 - Buds are starting to fill out and the leaves definitely look healthier. Trichomes are still mostly clear with no amber on the buds. Day 84 - Sugar leaf trichomes are turning amber. Buds still look clear and cloudy with no amber showing. Added nutrients today. Going out of the country for the next four days.

HomerAndAbe Day 88 - Came back from a four day vacation to my buds having grown quite a bit. It looks like I am starting to get some browning trichomes so harvest shouldn't be too far away. Day 89 - Fed nutrients. Day 90 - Trichomes are still mostly cloudy with no amber on the buds.

HomerAndAbe Day 92 - Buds have slowed their growth but are still getting larger. Trichomes are getting more cloudy but still very little amber. Day 95 - Fed nutrients. Still not showing amber trichomes. I will probably give plain water from now on.

HomerAndAbe Day 100 - Trichomes still mostly cloudy with little to no amber. Day 101 - Flushed each pot with 1 gallon of water. Still no signs of amber.

HomerAndAbe Day 106 - Still no signs of amber trichomes. Buds are still slowly filling out. Day 107 - Looks like I still have a few more weeks left. Fed nutrients.

HomerAndAbe Day 113 - Trichomes are getting more cloudy. Colas are getting fatter. Day 117 - AK trichomes are starting to turn amber. Still no amber on the CD. Day 118 - Cut out the SCROG to make it easier to access the plants.

HomerAndAbe Strain grew quickly and had some fat, albeit short, buds. If I had let it vegitate for a while longer, I believe I would have had a much larger haul. The only weird part was that the trichomes never really went amber before the rest of the plant started to fade heavily. The smell and taste is strongly citrus; almost as if it is Fresca flavored.

HomerAndAbe This plant grew a little slower than the AK 47. The buds turned out prettier with very orange pistils throughout.
