kharkivskyzo Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first-time poster here! :) Tired of the stresses of growing outdoors, I bought myself a 4/20 present this year and set up a Mars Hydro TS 1000 grow kit, thus I decided to start a grow diary to see what comes out of it and share it with the community here. I've been planting outdoors for about 10 years now and have little experience growing indoors, just enough from watching friends, reading, and a sub-optimal experiment I've done a while ago. Anyway, I was going to grow 4 S.A.D. Autos (Sweet Seeds), but two of them didn't make it. I had 2 NL Automatic (RQS) seeds germinating at the same time, just as a backup, and that truly came on handy, given the situation. The seeds were put on a wet paper towel on 4/22 and into their definitive pots (7 liters) on the 24th. Two days later they all came out and I have the seedlings now under the TS 1000 on a 20/4 schedule and giving them 6.3Ph plain water. The lamp is 70cm above the plants at 100% potency - about this, I'm not sure if the lamp isn't too high, still trying to figure it out, but I'll keep an eye on the stretching. And that's it for now. If anyone wants to share some tips or just leave a comment, feel free to do so. I'll appreciate it! Keep on growing! kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo Hello again! :) Here are some pictures from day 2 and some more of the set-up. There isn't much to say for now - just watching them grow, giving them water when necessary, and checking the overall conditions in order to keep it running smoothly from the beginning. I'm still not sure about the temperature, the humidity, and the lamp to plant distance - if anyone wants to jump in for some hints, it would be awesome! And that's all for today. Keep on growing! kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo Hello! :) One week and one day have passed since the plants sprouted and everything seems to be running smoothly. I've been monitoring everything that happens in the tent as closely as I can and adjusting things here and there in order to give the plants the best possible environement. With the help of the community, I was able to stabilize day temperature around 23º/25º and humidity around 50/55%, getting 20º/21º and 65%/70% humidity during the dark hours and get some peace of mind about it. I know it's not ideal, but the plants don't seem to complain and keep growing with no issues whatsoever. During the first week, I watered them daily with 100ml of plain water with adjusted pH at around 6.3. Yesterday, I increased the amount to 250ml per plant and added a bit of Root Juice to help stimulate root growth. They will be watered now every other day, adding stimulants and nutrients accordingly only once a week. The initial set-up was giving me some headaches regarding the way I would connect the carbon filter to the extractor and not looking as I wanted it to look, so I decided to set things up in a different way. After some thought and research, I hung the carbon filter and the fan separately, each one on its own support bar, and hung the light ropes to the sides of the tent, maximizing the available height to grow and getting a cleaner look overall. The lamp is 60cm (24") from the plant. Now I'm happy about the set-up and only have to care about the plants. At least, for now. And that's all for the time being. Happy growing! kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo Ok! So that's it! Just another week has passed and the plants keep getting bigger and stronger. I failed measuring the pH on a previous watering (should have calibrated the machine first) and a new set of leaves started showing some signs of what I believe were pH issues - pale green tips and some brown maks on an older fan leave. In the meantime, I started the LST today (day 16 since they sprouted). Maybe I should have trained them a few days earlier, but it's OK. Nothing much dramatic. I think they are looking good. The S.A.D. Auto #1 alredy showed the preflowers with two little pistils coming from them. I'll be apreciating the carbon filter in a week or so. Regarding nutrients, I keep giving them a little of Root Juice and added Bio Heaven and Acti-Vera. I tried these in a previous outdoor grow and compared with some plants that didn't have any the differences were notorious. I believe this stuff really helps. At least, it doesn't seem to hurt them. I'll update again in a few day! Let's grow! kharkivskyzo

Hi! So, the pale tips continue to scare me, specially on this plant (S.A.D. Auto #1). She keeps growing and started pre-flower, but these pale tips on the leaves and some brown spots are weird... Does anyone have an idea of what it can be? Thanks!

Well, other than what Roberts suggest, you might have a bit of excess of some things relative to calcium (mag, nitro, and possibly acids), tbh. As those plants look a but "stubby" and crinkly, very dark green, with some spotty discolouration and such too (though not all that much). So I'd lower some of your current nutrients a bit, and look at potassium and calcium mainly.

kharkivskyzo Hi, all! :) So, the plants started flowering, still a little shy, specially the Northern Light Automatic. I was a bit worried, and a bit disappointed with myself, because of that screw up with pH earlier on their life, but they seem to start forgiving that mistake I made and recovering a little, so let's keep going. I'm giving them a little bit of this and that Biobizz stuff, but I understand now that on indoors one needs to go way lighter on feeding nutrients and all that than outdoors. At least with this 150W LED that I'm running. I wonder if I shouldn't just give them plain water, since they show a very dark green on their leaves - well, appart from the tips on the S.A.D. Auto #1. We'll see. I trained them some more, removed one or another leaf that was on the way between light and the future buds and will do some more LST and defoliation next week and leave them be. Good luck with your grows. I now I'll need some with this one! kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo Hello! The plants grew a lot this week, with the S.A.D. Auto taking clear advantage over the NL Automatic, but there's still plenty of time until the end. The plants just turned a month old, still a long way until harvest. This week, I gave them a good soak with only pH'ed water and will add some "food" in the next couple of days, when watering again. I'm supressing Bio-Grow this week and keeping the amounts low, just giving them a little bit of this and that once a week. Their green is still quite dark and they don't seem to need or ask for anything. They've got tied down for the last time and some leaves were removed to allow light to get into all the canopy more evenly. I'm seriously considering buying a dehumidifier because the humidity levels are getting nastier now that the plants are bigger. Around 55%-65% with lights on, and up until 75% with lights off. I've put the extractor at full power, got a little better, but still... might be too much. We'll see. I'm updating again in a few days! Happy growing to you all! kharkiskyzo

kharkivskyzo Hi everyone! :) Just turning another week into flowering and the plants keep doing good. I started watering them more regularly, adding some more stimulants and stuff to their water, as they seem to be enjoying them and not complaining at all. Specially, the S.A.D. ones, they are way ahead of the Northern Light plants, but that's ok. No rush. They are two totally different strains, the S.A.D. Auto being more compact with more dense little buds, and the NL Automatic taller, with a larger distance between bud spots, less bulky. I prefer the S.A.D. looks, and they will certainly be more productive. I think that in the future, I'll only put one strain inside the tent. Being this small, I belive it will make things more manageable. There isn't much more to say, I did some more defoliation at the begging of week 6, keeping an eye regularly to check for temperatures and humidity levels, about which I'm still concerned, although everything seems to be under control. Not ideal, but still good. I'll be posting some more photos and info by the end of the week. Happy growing! kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo Hello everybody! :) So, the flowering goes on, with the S.A.D. plants still taking advantage over the Northern Light ones. Still a few more weeks to go! Light feeding and watering every 3 days, playing around HR levels - had to move a dehumidifier to near the tent and open one of the side holes to keep it around 55%-ish, otherwise it would always be above 70%, and I need to change the water on it twice a day. But that's nothing, in comparison to the outdoors headaches I used to have. That's all about it. kharkivskyzo

kharkivskyzo ...and here we are again! :) This week has been much similar to the previous one, with the plants getting more and more yellow leaves and denser buds. I've raised the feeding by one ml/l here and there, but I'm now stopping to feed the S.A.D. Auto plants, because I think I'll havest them around day 70 - I could even chop the #2 if I hadn't enough stock at home or if I was in a rush, without losing much of it. Of course, the Northern Light plants will need a bit more than that, but that's OK! Quite impressive how growing indoors cuts a couple of weeks to the plants life cycle when compared to outdoors! Let's go! Almost there! :D kharkivskyzo

@SwissKush, thanks for you comment! They are growing bigger by the day! I think I screwed up a little with the pH (I should have calibrated the thing before checking the water), but already resumed watering them with adjusted pH. Quite excited to see what comes from this and to start the next grow already - although I know I'll have to wait a little, at this point. Ahah! Cheers!

@@@kharkivskyzo, it happens to everyone! I stopped using the electronic PH meters that you have to calibrate. I have had various models and they all float. Once I changed to using a liquid based, chemical test, I have seen much better growing results in my indoor gardens, and also in my rose garden outside. I use the GHE test liquid with the test tube it comes with every day. It is so cheap, like 8 euro. I test the DWC and the solution for my coco grow. I just have had too many problems with the electronic units, no matter the cost. 😀

i wont worry so much about ph if you grow in soil..... when i startrrd growing indoors i used mine and nearly killed my plant because of wrrong handling of ph meter..... so lean back,, soil buffers very well the ph. ... i never touched my ph meter again....

kharkivskyzocommented4y ago
@Mrs_Larimar, thanks for your advice. Really! I stoped using the pH meter altogether and the plants seem to be recovering well. It's one of these weird things, you know? Sometimes one just cares too much and ends up screwing things more.

@Sweet_Seeds, thank you very much! I really love the S.A.D. Auto, it was the first autoflower I grew successfully, back in 2012 in outdoors. Its taste and effects are still well present in my mind. Love it! Let's see how it turns out growing indoors. Oh! And I have 4 S.A.D S1 seeds on the freezer, waiting for an opportunity in a near future! Cheers!
