Day 1: I got two of these Sweet Gelato seeds free from @Zamnesia. I’m only planting one at the moment . I’m really excited about growing it. I’ve really loved any Gelato I have tasted. I have my substrate prepared and my veg space is ready to go. I have put the seed in Ph’d water for 24hrs first and I will add to the soil tomorrow night. I’ll wet the soil down tomorrow morning with Ph’d water and I’ll put it the veg space with the lights on to warm up the soil before adding the seed.
Day 2: Seed has been moved into the substrate and pot is now in Veg Space under 40watt CFL bulbs but once the seed germinates I will switch on the 200watt CFL. This is my least favourite part of growing, the wait for the seedlings 🌱 to break through the soil. I’ve planted the seed to one side of the pot as I find this makes LST easier. The plant will be spending it’s first 2 to 3 weeks in this veg space while I wait for my Purple Punch to finish in my main grow space.
72hrs Later: Houston we have lift off 🚀
The seed first started to peed through the soil after only 48hrs. That’s the fasted I’ve ever seen, hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. Leaves still haven’t opened but it’s fully above ground now.
Day 1: This was the fastest germination I have seen. Only 72hrs from being planted to looking happy and healthy above ground. My plan is to not water this week and only rely on the humidifier which is filled with Ph’d water for feeding the plant. Now that the seedling is above ground I have changed from the 3 small CFL’s to just
one 200watt CFL. I’ve added a strip of silver tape around the inside of the top of the pot to help reflect light.
Day 2: Looking good. I put a few drops of water around the seedling just to dampen the soil a bit. Temperature is a bit hotter than I’d like at 30 degrees with the lights on but that’s down to the outside warm weather conditions. Seems to be okay though.
Day 3: Happy and healthy. I put another few drops of water around it again to keep the soil damp, but only in close to the seedling. I’m keeping the top layer of the rest of the soil dry so it’s not appealing for little bugs and mould. Underneath the dry layer the soil is still wet since I soaked it through before planting the seed.
Day 4: Getting wider but not any taller which is awesome. I put another few drops of water around the bass of the stem. The humidity doesn’t seem to be enough on its own, probably because of the high temperature.
Day 5: Happy and healthy looking.
Day 6: Everything is awesome.
Day 7: One week old and it’s all looking good. Another few drops of water again today around the stem. Plant is starting to take shape. Wahoo, one week down.
Week two begins. I’m really happy with how it’s looking at just a week old, already taking shape. I’ll be continuing to monitor as closely as I have been and will continue to take detailed notes, if I grow this strain again the notes and pictures will be very useful to me. Again the loop of silver tape in the pot is to help with reflecting the light 💡 to the sides of the plant 🌱. I don’t know if it actually does anything but it makes
sense that it should and it doesn’t hurt.
(For the record, the thing with the Axe was just a joke, she was never gonna do it, although I didn’t know this at the time so it was pretty fucking scary)
Day:8 The growth is visible each day. Done no work today with the plant but I did get a gift of a new orange helmet ⛑️ from Babydoll, sweet like Gelato...
Day:9 I gave around half a cup of water today (half a human cup).More visible growth. It really is flying along.
Day:10 The plant is measuring 15cm wide. No need for water today. Outside temps have been a bit cooler so soil isn’t drying out as quick.
Day:11 Gave a small bit of water again today. Humidifier is still on all the time also.
Day:12 Continued obvious growth.
Day:13 It’s like Jack and the magic Beanstalk. I gave some more water today. Just around half a cup.
Day:14 I gave the first proper watering today. Watered with Ph’d water until I got run off. It took nearly 2ltrs. I’m super happy with how it’s looking at 2 weeks.
Day 15: Plant is looking good after it’s first proper watering last night. Done some close inspection of leaves and no sign of any deficiencies.
Day 18: Starting to gain a little more height now as well as still spreading. Just starting to grow its 3rd set of nodes. Full watering again tonight with a very low dose of nutrients (1ml G) It took 2ltrs again before I got run off.
Day 21: Looking happy and healthy at 3 weeks. Just starting its fifth set of nodes. It got so tall we had to get the human to make us a Cherrypicker out of some old bricks he had so we could reach the top. I think the plan is to start LST tomorrow, the human is gonna help us with this because let’s face it, it’s a big Fucking tree.
*Again for the record: Apparently the thing with the TNT was another joke. I’m not sure if I find it as funny as she does….
Day 22: First day of LST. Braced the stem down low first in the opposite direction to what it was being bent to protect the roots from being torn. Bending the main stem down is the only bit of LST I done today. I’ll give it a few days to find shape and fill in its own gaps before going at any of the branches.
Day 23: Just gave the main stem another little pull today to bend it down a bit further.
Day 24: Moved the hook on the garden tie up one node on the main stem and pulled down further again. Also started pulling the branches into place and pinning down. Clipped off a few lower leaves.
Day 25: Another bit of LST today. Gaps are filling themselves in nicely already. I started pulling the top of the main stem off to one side to fill the gap shown in the photo. Watered today as well with nutrients(1ml G, 1ml SR). Clipped off one more lower leaf.
Day 26: I didn’t want to remove anymore leaves until next week but there were a few that were either getting in the way or really blocking off light so I removed 3 lower leaves and the one biggest leaf from near the top of the plant. Done another small bit of pulling and pinning. There are 4 branches that I’m waiting to get a bit longer before I pull them into position.
Day 27: Watered today with nutrients (1ml SR, 2ml CM, 3ml G). Pulled the last few branches into place. There will still need to be some more adjustments over the next few days but it has its main shape now. There’s loads of signs of pre-flower but I think I’ll stay on the veg nutrients for another few feeds.
Day 28: We moved from the veg space to the main grow space today, it’s the most beautiful thing me and Babydoll have ever seen. The human helped us move obviously. Turned the lights down to 80% for the first 12 hrs. We found some yellow spots on two leaves. Removed both leaves and posted a help question to Growdiares.
Can someone please tell me what these yellow spots are. They are not uniformed circles. Found them on two leaves. I removed both of them. First two pics are taken under a scope.
Most likely from leaves getting wet. When the leaf has water on it the light gets magnified on that spot causing it to burn. Similarly to using a magnifying glass when you use the sun to burn ants when you was a kid.
Day 29: Even though there are plenty signs of pre-flower I’m sticking with the Grow nutrients for another few days. Plant is looking happy and healthy in its new grow space. I have the lamp height at 60cm since it went in yesterday and there are no tacoing 🌮 leaves or any sign of heat stress so I’m gonna lower to 50cm and monitor closely. Watered today with nutrients (1ml SR, 4ml G, 1ml CM)
Day 30: Looking good. Chopped off another two big lower leaves. Put one more bend into the main stem.
Day 31: Not going at any branches or leaves today. I’m gonna give it a few days to settle into itself. The plant looks like it’s enjoying its new grow space, the future bud sites are now nearly all bending up towards the light.
Day 32: Watered today with just a very low dose of nutrients (1ml SR, 2m G). Clipped off one big fan lest near the top of the plant because it was blocking light to a few future bud sites.
Day 34: Started on a small dose of bloom nutrients (2ml B, 1ml SR). Took full 2ltrs again. Loosened up a few ties to even canopy. Clipped off the last of the original big fan leaves attached to the main stem.
Day 35: Five weeks old today and everything is looking awesome. This plant is really motoring along nicely. I loosened/adjusted a few ties to even the canopy. Plant on the right in latest photos is also a Sweet Gelato, it’s a week younger. I’m not running a diary on this plant. I’m following the same feed and defoliation schedule as the plant in the diary. The only difference with this plant is that it was germinated and vegged under the Spider-farm SF100O, unlike the plant in this diary which was germinated and vegged for first four weeks under a 200watt CFL. I want to see if there is a difference in the final yield. It definitely way easier to do LST with the plant vegged under CFL and looks like there will be more bud sites because of this. The plant vegged under the LED has shorter thicker branches and not as many branches as the other plant and they are more difficult to pull into place.
Day 36: Week 6 off to a start. Everything is looking good. Watered with nutrients(1ml SR, 4ml B). Only had 2ltrs ready and got no run off with this amount. Clipped off 5 or 6 of the lowest leaves that weren’t getting light.
Day 37: Watered again tonight as the soil felt dry. Same dose of nutrients as last night. Took 3ltrs before I had sufficient run off, she’s a thirsty one. Removed all ties for the moment bar the tie holding the main stem down but I did loosen this a bit. The plant is very wide so I want the branches to move in a bit as the grow up.
Day 38: I had to clip off a good few leaves. I know defoliation is a bad idea at this stage but the plant is very bushy and I’m finding damp patches on leaves.
Day 39: I put my hand on the pot tonight and I couldn’t believe how light it was. After taking 3ltrs only two nights ago, it took 4ltrs tonight. Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 4ml B).
Day 41: Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 4ml B). Still clipping one or two leaves each night because it’s so crowded in there. Plant looks very healthy.
Day 42: Six weeks old, where has the time gone. I remember it when it was just a seed. 😀. Plant grew 16cm this week.
Day 43: Week 7 off to a good start. Watered with just PH’d water. The soil PH is reading 7.0 so I’m bringing the water/feeds closer to 6.0 to try bring it down a bit. Took nearly 4ltrs again. Moved around another 5 cm away from light, just to be safe. I only have around 20cm left to play with so hopefully it doesn’t get much taller.
Day 45: Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 5ml B) with PH @ 6.3. Took 3ltrs. I measured the PH of run off and it’s reading 7.0. It’s fairly dark down below the canopy and I want to give the plant a break from me clipping leaves off so I’ve added in one 23watt Warm White (2700k) standard home CFL bulb down low. I don’t know how much it will help but it won’t hurt so no harm in sticking it in.
Day 47: Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 5ml B). Took 3ltrs, run off measured at 7.0. Plant looks happy and healthy which is great considering how much defoliation I’m having to do. I’m thinking now that two 9ltr pots might be too big for my space.
Day 49: Seven weeks old today and looking happy and healthy. Watered with nutrients and added Green Sensation to the feed (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 2ml B). Plant grew 10cm this week. I think the main stretch is over now.
Day 50: Week 8 up and running. I took measurements all around with a Lux meter. The reading at the tallest bud site was nearly 90,000lux and every other bud was 55,000 to 65,000lux. I turned the whole pot anti-clockwise by around 90 degrees, or from 12 o clock to 9 o clock moving the tallest bud out of the direct light. This allowed me to move the plant 5cm closer to the light. Now all bud sites including the tallest one are reading between 65,000 and 75,000 lux. This is ideal. The target range for flowering with full spectrum LEDs is 55,000 to 85,000.
Day 51: I removed the light I put low down as I don’t think it was any benefit. I also removed the second smaller plant. It was taking up too much space and light and looked like it wasn’t going to produce very much. I’ll stick it outdoors and see how it gets on. Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 5ml B). Took 3ltrs of water, run off ph @6.9.
Day 52: Plant looks much happier with the extra space.
Day 53: Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 4ml B). Took 3ltrs. Plant is looking super healthy.
Day 55: Watered with nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 4ml B). Took 3ltrs. Starting to look nice and frosty.
Day 56: Eight weeks old today and I’m really happy with how it’s looking. Buds are really starting to take shape this week. I moved the light a little further away, now at 50cms. I measured the lux next to all buds and they are all getting between 65,000 and 75,000 so they are perfectly in range. I have some very small yellow tips on the leaves. I’m pretty sure it’s not the lights so I may have been a bit heavy on the nutrients. The yellow tips are tiny so I’m not worried but I’ll water with just PH’d water tomorrow night and give a good flush and then come back with a Lower dose of nutrients.
Day 57: Week 9 off to a start and everything is looking great. Watered with just PH’d water. It was 3ltrs to run off and then I gave it another litre so it had a good flush. I’ll go back with a smaller dose of nutrients in next feed.
Day 58: Close inspection today and all looks good.
Day 59: Watered with Nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 2ml B).
Day 61: Watered with Nutrients, a bit of a heavy dose (2ml SR, 2ml GS, 3ml B). Took the usual 3ltrs including run off. Plant is looking awesome. Today I bought Babydoll a puppy, she named him Manson which I thought was a bit strange.
Day 63: Nine weeks old today. Looks like possibly only another 2 weeks left, maybe 3. Watered with high dose of Nutrients (2ml GS, 2ml SR, 4ml B). That will be the last high dose of nutrients. I’ll be cutting back to half for the next week or so and then make a call on whether to stay on half dose or change to just PH’d water for the last week or two.
Day 64: Another week down and everything is looking awesome. Buds are looking fatter each day. My plan is to start lowering nutrients this week.
Day 65: Watered with Nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 2ml B). Took its usual 3ltrs.
Day 66: Smelling Sweeeeeeeeet ❤️
Day 67: Watered with same feed again (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 2ml B)
Day 69: Watered with Nutrients (1ml SR, 1ml GS, 1ml B). Took 3ltrs. No slow down yet on water uptake.
Day 70: Ten weeks old today and looking absolutely super awesome. I think I’ll be only giving PH’d water from here on.
Day 71: Ten weeks old. I saw my first Amber Trichome today. I checked a good few buds and we’re talking way less than 1% still. Either way I’m switching to just PH’d water for the rest of the Grow. No signs of any fade, even in the lower leaves. I reckon it could most likely be ready for harvest in another week but I’ll try push it for two weeks if I can. Trichome colour depending I suppose. Looks Awesome……
Day 72: Took a good few trichome pics and there is a good few cloudy and and a good few clear still. Didn’t really see any ambers.
Day 73: Watered tonight with just PH’d water. My PH meter broke yesterday(new one ordered) so I’m guessing for the moment (freaked) but I’ll error on the side of caution. I have a spare PH meter but it’s way out of calibration and reading 4 on water that’s definitely nearly 8. I have no ph buffer(ordered) to calibrate with. I’m trying to collect some rain water outside at the moment but for the first time in weeks there isn’t much rain. I’m thinking rain water is ph balanced so maybe I can use as a buffer solution to calibrate.
Day 74: Done inspection on trics. Lots of cloudy but only a few ambers. Buds are really taking on some nice colours now. Only slight signs of fade on the leaves.
Day 75: Watered with just PH’d water. It’s still taking the same 3ltrs every night. No slowdown yet. The buds look fantastic. It smells like an ice-cream parlour every time I open up the amp.
🍦 gelato 🍧 beautiful 🍨 sweet
Day 77: Eleven weeks old today. Watered with just PH’d water. It took just under 3ltrs including run off.
Day 78: We’re into the 12th and final week. Most trichomes are frosty and it’s getting easier to find some amber trichomes. It’s only still showing slight signs of fading. Plant had its 3rd feed/flush last night with just PH’d water. The smell is incredible
Day 79: Gave what I think will be the final watering today. The end is neigh. I usually have a 50watt tube heater turned on all the time inside the growbox. For these last few days I will be turning the heater off when the lights are off. This is to drop the temperature a little further and trick the plant into producing more trichomes to warm itself up.
Day 80: I removed most fan leaves tonight but I’ll still wait another day or so before harvest.
I hung the full plant upside down for 24hrs. I then hung the individual branches. I left the branches big and I didn’t trim the buds as I wanted to dry slowly. They hung in the dark room with temperature at 21 degrees and humidity at 58% for a week. I then removed the buds from the branches and placed them in a drying net for another few day before jarring. Smell isfantastic.
