With the sun starting to shine I figured I might as well put it to work. It's outdoor season! Returning to my stash of souveniers from the Niagara Seed Bank, I will be growing Amnesia Auto and Wedding Cake this summer.
Soaked the seeds for 12 hours and gave them the paper towel treatment - nice little taproots appeared within 36 hours. Dropped into peat plugs and sprouts appeared within 24 hours. Transplanted into temporary pots filled with Happy Frog soil yesterday on D6 from seed. Plants will stay indoors for the time being until they a little bigger. They're no match for the squirrels at this stage. Buggers.
Amnesia Auto
A potent auto showing powerful sativa dominance, this is a very cerebral strain with an earthy, pungent, hazey aroma coming from its multiple buds. It’s grows like Amnesia too – Christmas-tree shaped with healthy buds along each branch. Not one for the faint of heart.
Wedding Cake
Sometimes called Pink Cookies as Wedding Cake is a cross between Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies, very tangy sweet earth and a little bit of vanilla. Be forewarned it’s very potent, due to high THC content up to 25% plus.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The dirt hags are looking the best of the current run so far. They've grown pretty nicely over the past week in their temporary pots. I will be growing the Amnesia auto in a 7 gallon fabric pot and will be transplanting her this week. I'll give the Wedding Cake more time before I transplant her. They've spent all of their time indoors so far. Some yard time is imminent.
Both plants are growing pretty well but started displaying some issues before transplanting - leaves on the Amnesia were clawing and lower leaves on the Wedding Cake were getting quite rusty 😮 The girls were transplanted yesterday. The Amnesia auto will be growing in a 7 gallon pot while the Wedding Cake photoperiod will be growing in a 15 gallon pot. I've layered both pots with 2/3 Ocean Forest soil on the bottom and 1/3 Happy Frog on the top layer. Both plants were already looking a little root bound in the small pots prior to transplanting so I'm hoping with room to stretch these issues will clear themselves up. The Amnesia is already looking a bit better than she was earlier in the week and I'll be keeping my eye on the Wedding Cake.
The ladies are living life outside full-time now. I took them out earlier in the week and started them in the shadiest part of the yard where they were getting direct sun for only part of the morning. Since transplanting, I've moved them into an area where they'll get more direct sunlight.
Hopefully, smoother sailing this week. 🤞
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The outdoor crew is adapting and growing well although the Amnesia Auto had a week to forget.
Sadly, the Amnesia was paid a visit one night by some critter (skunk or racoon me thinks) who violently dug through her pot and cast her aside - I found her tossed amongst some day lilies that are growing in the garden behind her. Luckily, she was pretty much intact so I replanted her and it looks as though she'll survive the mugging. I've been moving her up onto a little work table I have in the yard at night to keep her safe from those nocturnal varmints.
The Wedding Cake is doing just fine - she's well protected, growing beneath a caged dome that I found in a cool little garden centre last fall. Unfortunately, it was the only one they had.
I'm hoping to FIM both plants this week some time.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The outdoor crew is doing o.k. It's been a very hot and humid week with lots of thunder showers. It's saved me some work though... I don't think I've had to water these plants since they've come to live outside full-time.
The Amnesia Auto took a while to recover after being uprooted by some critter and the subsequent FIMing I gave her. She finally looks to be on the move again. I hijacked some kennel fencing my wife had planned to use for a 'catio' that turned out to be perfect for my 'weedio'. The Amnesia is now better protected from varmints.
Funny, I have lot's of other things growing in pots in my yard - tomatoes, peppers - but it's only my weed that is under siege 🤔
The Wedding Cake is fairing a bit better than the Amnesia. She's doing well and outgrew the protective dome I had her growing under. I put a large metal trellis over her that I'm hoping to employ for training purposes as she grows. I'm hoping it will end up looking as good as it does in my mind 🤞
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The outdoor crew is doing o.k. The Wedding Cake is the larger of the two plants and is now 24" tall and is looking strong and healthy. The Amnesia Auto really stalled after being uprooted and topped and should be flowering by now but no sign of that happening yet. She does seem to be on the move again so hopefully things will sort themselves out. Lots of thunder showers again this week so I've had to do zero maintenance - just fine by me. 👍
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The outdoor gals have had a pretty wet week but are shaping up pretty well. The plus side of this wet summer has been that I've still had to do zero maintenance/watering ☺️
After her earlier setbacks, the Amnesia Auto has finally started to flower. She's a modest 24" tall but after her earlier FIMing she's developed a lovely figure. Looking forward to seeing where she goes from here.
The Wedding Cake is starting to grow nicely within her trellis with her branches just starting to push through as she beefs up. She's grown 15" since last week and is about 39" tall now. I topped her again this week because... why the hell not?
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
Trouble-free and easy-peasy outdoors. I still haven't had to lift a finger out there with the regular bouts of rain we've been getting this summer. The Ocean Forest soil seems to be giving them everything they need - both plants look healthy and strong.
The Amnesia Auto is a sleek little lady - about 25" tall with very slender branches. She's just completed her second week of flower and hasn't really stretched all that much, growing only about an inch since last week.
The Wedding Cake is 45" tall now, putting on another 6" since last week - she slowed a bit since I gave her another topping last week. She's not flowering yet, but I expect she may start within the next couple of weeks.
That's all from the yard. Thanks for tuning in ✌️
I was mostly a spectator again this week although I did have to finally water the girls this week after a few days without rain.
The Amnesia Auto is a pretty little plant and is very slenderer compared to all of the Indica/Indica dominant strains I've grown in the past - this is the first Sativa I've grown come to think of it 🤔 I put a stake in the pot this week just to give her a bit more stability. Her buds are stacking up nicely and starting to get plumper.
The Wedding Cake is showing signs of pre-flower now. It shouldn't be long now. She's filling out her cage nicely 👍
Ah, the great outdoors! 🌞
Thanks for tuning in✌️
Pretty easy week for the outdoor crew but I did have to do a little more work than usual and give them their first feeding. Both plants seemed to love it and responded very well.
The Amnesia Auto has a gorgeous little figure and her bud sites are starting to grow plumper. No noticeable fragrances yet.
The Wedding Cake has almost grown through the top of the trellis - just a few more inches to go. She should be a pretty fair size when all is said and done and she's gone through the stretch - she still hasn't gone into flower but I expect it could be anytime. She's nice and branchy after her FIMings.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
Easy week for the sun worshippers. Both girls looking fetch. They both got another feeding this week - Uncle Remo's nutes seem to agree with them both.
Amnesia Auto is continuing to plump up and starting to show a little frost and beginning to develop her weedy odour.
The Wedding Cake is now 5 feet tall and has reached the top of the trellis and has branched out nicely throughout the structure - all ready to take on some weighty buds.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The sun dwellers are doing swell. I upped their feed this week and both plants seem appreciative of the extra nutes.
Just waiting on the Amnesia Auto to finish. Her buds continue to get plumper and ripen.
The Wedding Cake has a lovely bushy shape and is finally in the early stages of flower. It will be nice to see her start bearing fruit.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The sun worshippers are doing fine for the most part, but there was a bit of a disturbance in the outdoor force this week.
I sadly discovered some bud rot on the Amnesia Auto and had to cut away the infected bud. Weather has been very hot, humid, and still so out of an over abundance of caution I decided to move her to my vacant tent inside. She's got a couple of weeks left until she finishes by the looks of things.
The Wedding Cake has exploded with bud sites and is looking wonderful. Really happy to see how she is developing.
That's all from the yard (and the tent - sigh). Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The Amnesia Auto is taking her time finishing. I'm sure moving her back indoors may have contributed to that. She's very close though - trichomes are pretty much cloudy throughout the plant but still no sign of amber. Sadly, I discovered more bud rot and had to cut away more bud 😞 I'll likely harvest her by weeks end.
The Wedding Cake is looking luscious. I give her a weekly feeding of Remo nutes and she's thriving. Starting to get a little stinky now too. Looking forward to watching her go over the coming weeks.
The Amnesia Auto has been harvested and is hanging to dry. Trichomes were cloudy throughout the plant with some amber just starting to appear but I didn't want to wait any longer and risk losing more of the plant to bud rot. Hanging her in my small tent to dry. Harvest report to come.
The Wedding Cake is doing great. Things are moving pretty quickly now that the days are getting shorter. She's uber branchy and filled with buds. I cleaned up the inner parts of the plant to keep things tidy and air flow humming. Frost just starting to appear on the bud sites and her fragrance is starting to come out. She's been fun to watch.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
I was away for a few days so a bit delayed with this update.
The Wedding Cake is doing great. Getting fatter and stinkier. She gets fed once a week with waterings every couple of days. A few more weeks til harvest ✌️
A mixed bag growing this one - some early issues when she was uprooted by a critter, but she bounced back nicely. She responded very well to FIMing, resulting in a very nicely shaped plant and some chunky buds. A shame about the dreaded bud rot near the end but I guess I'm fortunate it didn't spread further through the plant than it did.
I'm not sure I would grow this strain again but this is a classic case of "it's not you, it's me". The flavour profile, at least at this stage, is not to my taste, and I still much prefer the effects of indica strains and hybrids as opposed to pure statives like this one.
That's a wrap on this one. Thanks for tuning in ✌️
The Wedding Cake is looking beautiful and continues to fatten up. Her distinctive cherry smell is becoming more prominent - mouth watering.
Continuing with light weekly feedings - she seems to be getting everything she needs.
Buckets of rain the forecast over the next couple of days 😑 Less than ideal. It's been very smooth sailing up to this point. Crossing my fingers she holds up during the deluge. 🤞
The Wedding Cake continues to pack on weight and is getting more fragrant - like a skunk rolled in cherries. Thankfully she came through last week's torrential rains without incident. 👍
Two or three more weeks to go. This has been a long haul - I'll be glad to see the finish line.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
This outdoor growing sure does take a long time 😄 Seventeen weeks in the bag and still a couple of more to go. I don't know that I could have picked a later finishing strain to grow.
Unfortunately, the rain and humidity have started to take their toll on this girl. Discovered a bit of bud rot and had to purge the afflicted bud. Nothing too serious at this point. I also came across some white powdery mildew. This was a little more widespread - mostly towards the back of the lower branches but also an upper branch or two as well. I cut away the most affected areas and then treated the entire plant with Safer Garden Spray. Hopefully, that keeps things in check until harvest. 🤞
Her colour is beginning to fade a bit as we hit the home stretch. Red hairs starting to appear as she ripens and buds are getting frostier and fatter. I've stopped feeding her at this point - it's all water and love now.
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
Final days for the Wedding Cake. I had to cut out more buds due to further incidents of bud rot and black mold. Unfortunately, recent weather conditions have not been ideal for her run to the finish. Trichs are mostly cloudy now so she'll be harvested in the next day or two.
Also just tuned into the fact that one of my top buds is rocking a mohawk - usually a sign of a polypoid (3 sets of chromosomes instead of 2). Interesting. 🤔
Thanks for tuning in ✌️
Today was harvest day and sadly I discovered that white powdery mildew was rampant throughout the entire the plant along with further instances of bud rot and grey mold. I had to trash everything. 😢 The weather has just been garbage over the past month or so and I had no way to protect her from the elements.
Lessons learned:
1. Pretreat the plant against white powdery mildew in future
2. Select earlier finishing strains for growing outdoors
She sure looked (and smelled) nice though. What could have been 🤔
That's a wrap on this one. Thanks for tuning in ✌️
