Hello everyone, So I'm trying out my very own grow! as you can see I got purple afghan kush from Dinafem seeds, an indica. apparently easy to grow so lets see what i can do. nothing special so far... just one seed has sprouted out of the two i planted.

so we had a good week of growth but the leaves started looking a little funny. they are curling down and are all wrinkly so it is probably over watering? i dont really know how much to give in this big pot? should i soak the soil like i have read or give a little less?

so my plant took some abuse but it is still growing... those leaves look really bad but at least it should grow out of it. i also topped her this week and she actually is growing well . maye a little too much stress but she should be fine.

growing very slow now as you can see. i think i just put way too much stress on her with the topping and over watering. did some LST as you can see. will the leaves on the soil be a problem?

seems to be really stressed out growing slow. but at least it looks well trained and should grow through the stress. just going to take it easy on the nutes and do as little stress as possible, future ties might still be done.

she seems like her growth rate should start picking up now, this grow has already been really long with all the stress i caused. but she is looking real leafy and hopefully more leaf means more photosynthesis and hence more growth. we will have to see what the future holds.

I was right last week about her growing a lot faster, hopefully completely out of that stress faze. looking really bushy now but really no height. at which point do i start looking at defoliation? i dont want to cause more stress though. going to rather stick to lst and maybe she gets some hight.

Done training! now this girl must just grow a little taller, might still add one or two ties to spread her out but for now she looks really good and we will see how she grows the next few weeks.

Getting a lot more growth than expected and the plant is using up like 30% more water. Considering flowering in a week but we will see how she looks when we get there. Also have 6 new colas coming up and catching up with my main colas which is very exciting. Truly bushing up like a real indica. Would actually like some more night and more nodes on my main colas but I'm not too keen on removing the other nodes that are developing so nicely...

My plant is extremely bushy and thick with a lot of nodes coming up in random places. Will this be a problem in flowering? Can I just separate the colas as they develop in flowering? My concern is the light getting to each cola. However my 1200W LED is doing a good job atm.

The plamt is looking great and bushy. And when colas begin to get big, you may need some sticks of bamboo to help hold them up but yes also to kind of separate them for good airflow. I think your light will also be good through flowering, 1200 led is pretty powerful. However if you were to do a slight defoliation and remove any leaves blocking those bud sites, it will help immensely, taking off 10-20% in the veg and then another small one into early flowering. Just dont get too carried away removing leaves as the plant will still need some good healthy ones. Happy growing great job already.

So excited for the stretch. Although this strain is know to only stretch about 30% I am still very excited. So from my next water I'll be using 1ml biogrow and 3ml biobloom. I kicked it off with 18 hours darkness. 2 days in and already a lot of growth on my colas. So happy to not see a single yellow leaf tip or any other signs of stress. I did however see some leaves clawing but after 24 hours that went away.

so she stretched about an extra 8cm in the first week of flowering. have some pistols appearing. no signs of buds yet but very exciting new growth. a crazy amount of colas popping up as you can see in the pictures and stretch for these first 2 weeks was really good for the plant as it created some space. I'm waiting for the stretch phase to pass then I'm going to exfoliate some fan leaves but just tucking them away for the time being.

Grow Questions

PaulTstarted grow question 7 years ago
In a weeks time(when my stretch is over)I will defoliate a few fan leaves covering colas. So... how much should I cut, fan leaves higher or lower on the stem and what effect will this have on growth and yield? does time of day or time in the watering cycle of the cutting matter?

Think of defoliation as a last resort. First try to LST to open up the canopy and/or tuck leaves. Now when defoliating, what you want to expose is not buds (or stems), is lower leaves that are connected to those lower buds. When selecting what leaves to defoliate, be sure there are other leaves below to catch the light it was receiving and that on the point where it join a branch / stem there's smaller leaves that will continue to catch light to feed said node. If you've never done it, do a couple of leaves each time, or you might get carried away and leave a bald plant.

Here we are at week 3 of flowering, hopefully at the end of the stretch and the plant can focus on its buds. also did some minor defoliation to expose some lower colas (Go take a look at the pics to see the difference!!). Also did a little LST to open her up. all I want now is for her to fatten up.

let's swell. I think she is done stretching and is in gear for bud development. The colas have formed budlets and I'm proud to announce that we have had some snowfall the last few days with the leaves becoming nice and frosty with trichomes. sweet smell coming through too. Now at the end of week four is when I finally started seeing real bud development and hope to see a lot more the next few weeks. A lot of my pistols are beginning to turn brown? is this something to worry about?

flowering week 7 i was unable to give my plant attention and she was exposed to some cold conditions at night around 8-14 degrees Celsius for a week. my pistols withered and browned and leaves look nutrient burnt and over-watered as a result. do i leave her to grow or harvest?

My recommendation would be to let her grow. Obviously, get the temperature back to where it should be too. But she should be fine. Cannabis is much more resilient than most people give it credit for. Good luck! 👍

so the grow was a great grow but I didn't really get the harvest I was looking for. I maybe harvested a touch too early but I didn't want the weed to get me stuck to the couch. it had an amazing taste that just intensified throughout curing. I did get over the indica pretty fast though. I'm more of a sativa type of guy.

Hey I read your comment for the week and yes I agree definitely don't remove any of the colas or bud sites, just some giant fan leaves to open things up.
PaulT
PaulTcommented7 years ago
I transplanted too early and due to my lack of knowledge then I over watered her. So I put her under 200W CFL as it was also my first time using the 1200W LED and was scared that it could be stressing my plant as it is quit powerful. then it took quite a while for her to grow 6 nodes before the first topping. And then I topped her again and then had to tie my main colas down to spread her out a little. together with the fact that Purple Afghan kush is known to be very fat and stocky. so everything adds up I guess.

@PaulT, I wonder why your height is so low for 12 weeks? Is it actually 3 weeks old?
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreencommented7 years ago
@PaulT, no it'll most likely do more good than damage. And if you don't remove too much it shouldn't stress. Just take a good look at the plant move her branches around and see if any leaves are really blocking any light going to new growth or bud sites, also blocking good airflow too.

@PaulT Hi there! What a lovely plant! You should tuck all the big fan leaves that are making shades onto lower buds. Lower leaves don't need to be removed since they're not 'hiding' anything from the light, and small leaves onto bud sites should be kept until harvest. About watering & cutting best time, I'd recommend to do it right before night, because plants recover during the dark phases. I'll be around, keep us up-to-date and good luck with this beauty!

A very healthy plant and showing some very nice potential budsites ;) Our purple afghan kush will not stretch to much in the bloom phase typically she has a 1x stretch :) So if you flip at say 50cm the final height will be 80cm to a maximum of 100cm Very minimal stretch and one of the best heavy hitting indicas on the Dinafem menu ;) Let's see how you get on in the flower stage. I think you'll do extremely well and I can't wait for you to try our pak ,) Full of flavour and packs a serious punch ;) All the best Mark..

I would feed for 7 more days then begin the plane water flush in preparation for harvest :) Thank you for the update mate I'll drop back in on the next :) All the best Mark..
