so she stretched about an extra 8cm in the first week of flowering. have some pistols appearing. no signs of buds yet but very exciting new growth. a crazy amount of colas popping up as you can see in the pictures and stretch for these first 2 weeks was really good for the plant as it created some space. I'm waiting for the stretch phase to pass then I'm going to exfoliate some fan leaves but just tucking them away for the time being.

Grow Questions

My plant is extremely bushy and thick with a lot of nodes coming up in random places. Will this be a problem in flowering? Can I just separate the colas as they develop in flowering? My concern is the light getting to each cola. However my 1200W LED is doing a good job atm.

The plamt is looking great and bushy. And when colas begin to get big, you may need some sticks of bamboo to help hold them up but yes also to kind of separate them for good airflow. I think your light will also be good through flowering, 1200 led is pretty powerful. However if you were to do a slight defoliation and remove any leaves blocking those bud sites, it will help immensely, taking off 10-20% in the veg and then another small one into early flowering. Just dont get too carried away removing leaves as the plant will still need some good healthy ones. Happy growing great job already.

In a weeks time(when my stretch is over)I will defoliate a few fan leaves covering colas. So... how much should I cut, fan leaves higher or lower on the stem and what effect will this have on growth and yield? does time of day or time in the watering cycle of the cutting matter?

Think of defoliation as a last resort. First try to LST to open up the canopy and/or tuck leaves. Now when defoliating, what you want to expose is not buds (or stems), is lower leaves that are connected to those lower buds. When selecting what leaves to defoliate, be sure there are other leaves below to catch the light it was receiving and that on the point where it join a branch / stem there's smaller leaves that will continue to catch light to feed said node. If you've never done it, do a couple of leaves each time, or you might get carried away and leave a bald plant.

flowering week 7 i was unable to give my plant attention and she was exposed to some cold conditions at night around 8-14 degrees Celsius for a week. my pistols withered and browned and leaves look nutrient burnt and over-watered as a result. do i leave her to grow or harvest?

My recommendation would be to let her grow. Obviously, get the temperature back to where it should be too. But she should be fine. Cannabis is much more resilient than most people give it credit for. Good luck! 👍

Hey I read your comment for the week and yes I agree definitely don't remove any of the colas or bud sites, just some giant fan leaves to open things up.

I transplanted too early and due to my lack of knowledge then I over watered her. So I put her under 200W CFL as it was also my first time using the 1200W LED and was scared that it could be stressing my plant as it is quit powerful. then it took quite a while for her to grow 6 nodes before the first topping. And then I topped her again and then had to tie my main colas down to spread her out a little. together with the fact that Purple Afghan kush is known to be very fat and stocky. so everything adds up I guess.

@PaulT, I wonder why your height is so low for 12 weeks? Is it actually 3 weeks old?
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreencommented7 years ago
@PaulT, no it'll most likely do more good than damage. And if you don't remove too much it shouldn't stress. Just take a good look at the plant move her branches around and see if any leaves are really blocking any light going to new growth or bud sites, also blocking good airflow too.

@PaulT Hi there! What a lovely plant! You should tuck all the big fan leaves that are making shades onto lower buds. Lower leaves don't need to be removed since they're not 'hiding' anything from the light, and small leaves onto bud sites should be kept until harvest. About watering & cutting best time, I'd recommend to do it right before night, because plants recover during the dark phases. I'll be around, keep us up-to-date and good luck with this beauty!

A very healthy plant and showing some very nice potential budsites ;) Our purple afghan kush will not stretch to much in the bloom phase typically she has a 1x stretch :) So if you flip at say 50cm the final height will be 80cm to a maximum of 100cm Very minimal stretch and one of the best heavy hitting indicas on the Dinafem menu ;) Let's see how you get on in the flower stage. I think you'll do extremely well and I can't wait for you to try our pak ,) Full of flavour and packs a serious punch ;) All the best Mark..

Week 6 into bloom and look how beautiful those flowers are :) Big fat tops with that amazing purple shimmer :) Beautifully done so far and that finish line is not to far away. I would feed for 7 more days then begin the plane water flush in preparation for harvest :) Thank you for the update mate I'll drop back in on the next :) All the best Mark..
