Hey everyone , Thanks for following along. Wow tons of growth this week - these girls really bushed up A LOT! I think I took some poor advice and bumped the feeding up toohigh at 650ppm , one plant got nitrogen toxicity with a couple claw leaves. Flushed and fixed it. A few brown spots on a couple leaves on some plants , ordered calmag to be safe. I’m thinking it’s from too many nutes. I’ve scaled back to 350ppm. One plant is in heavy pre-flowers and the LST gave it like 6-7 tops! Nice! The rest are still in late veg , More pistils are forming and I think they will all be in flower by next week. The strain info says 9-10weeks , this is week 5 .. half way! Thank you for the advice ! Happy Growing! YAY legal marijuana in Canada on Oct 17,2018!!!

At this point, as a first time indoor grower in Canada, I’m looking for any general advice as the weeks go by on my grow. if there are areas of improvement that I can make , all I ask is that you politely mention the thing that needs improvement and the reason why. Thank you!

Mmm. things to improve or keep an eye on. First don't spend a shit ton of money on expensive nutrients, specially if this is your first indoor experience, you can get a great results with just the basics. Actually move nutrients to the bottom of your "things to keep in mind". First thing to keep an eye on: over watering, this is the number 1 rookie mistake, for a newly sprouted plant like yours half a party cup (7 to 8 o) of water is enough for 5 to 7 days; as the plant grows, you will notice the soil will dry faster, meaning that the seedling is consuming more water per day, then and only then you up the amount by small amounts (I usually up by increments of 50%, that has worked as a rule of thumb so far). Remember too much water severely restricts root oxygen uptake and this means no growth, the plants literally drowns. Second: temperatures. This is of utmost importance. In the correct range the plants will thrive and grow rapidly. When the temperature is low, the growth slows down by a large margin. When temperatures are above 23°C (73°F) the growth is really fast. Regarding this, try to improve your lights out temperatures (I turn the lights on during the night, so the heat emitted by the led I'm using keep the indoor warm). As for an upper limit, as far as you are below 30°C (86°F) you'll do fine. Third, use quality soil, this will feed you plant freeing you from having to use nutrients for weeks. Lighter mixes will require feedings sooner, heavier mixes, can lasts you weeks. I use a heavy mix on 3 gallon pots, and that allows me 8 weeks of no nutrients. Fourth, save yourself a Future headache and get both a pH pen and EC/PPM meter. Always measure and adjust pH (even in soil). Fifth. Nutrients. You only need a grow nutrient and a bloom one, the rest is not actually needed and with quality soil you can forget the grow one. Master everything above before thinking on getting root stimulators, bloom boosters, etc. In my experience plants don't need those.

Hello, been keeping humidity at 40-50%, temps 78F-65F, lights 600w MH - 18on 6off. Light nutrients at .5ml per gallon from GH flora series. My question is how are my plants doing ? Good size for 4 weeks since seed cracked? more nutrients yet? Any advice? Thank you!

Your grow is doing fine. Week 5 and 6 you will see some explosive growth in your plants. Keep in mind that your tent is only roughly 6ft to 6ft 7in in height and you will have to rais your light up when you switch to flower. As an example I have a 6ft7in tent with my lights mounted all the way to the top. I switched my plants to flower when they were 18in y’all and when switched to flower they grew to 43in tall. This left me with only 2 ft left from the top of the tent. So keep in mind that when you switch your plant will grow 2-3times it’s size from veg. All that said you will be able to increase your nutrient feeding soon depending on the soil you are using as Athos has stated. Good luck on your grow and I hope this helps!

Any advice for the flowering stage on these autos. One of them is a couple weeks ahead of others. Slight yellowing on lower leaves entering flowering. Lots of colas forming from the LST. Any advice or recommendations? How much yield do you think? Each plant about 1.5’ x1.5’

My friend they need watering asap, I can see by the leaves they are under watered. This can cause the yellowing. Also autos still need sufficient supply of N in the flowering phase from stretch and sometimes a little further. It’s to hard to judge your yeild at this stage because some of the plants look like they are still growing upward. Minimum 1oz per plant at this stage providing you give her what she needs. If you need an extra opinion DM me whenever

How’s it going bro? Looking good! How long do you plant on taking them? The ones with milky trichs still only look half ripe. I’ve tried all stages and with out a doubt a happy medium is 5-10% Amber trichs. You want to look middle of the plant. The tops will always ripen first, so don’t just gauge it off the tops👍🏼

@Danweedman Hi there! Well they look really short in heights, I can tell by looking at your last pictures that they suffered from various mistakes. 1) Your EC/PPM is too low, you can increase nutrients intakes, think of the vegetative stage as it was a factory, slowly building its production line, the factory needs maximum materials to get bigger and stronger, in order to reach its main goal : producing buds. If materials are missing, the factory won't support the production or something bad will happen (deficiency, weakness, slow growth, early flowering...). At this stage (week 4), your EC should be around 1.0-1.3 (500-650ppm), but since your plant is late I'd recommend to increase step by step and start with 0.7-0.8 (350-400ppm). 2) Your light distance is huge, HID are not supposed to burn plants, I've been using HID for a while, very close to the apexes, 20-30 cm max. The only issue you can encounter would be heat but if you manage to get a cool breeze onto the top of your plants and onto the light, this shouldn't be a problem. 3) Relative humidity should be around 60-70% during the vegetative stage. 4) Soil --> what's your substrate? As mentioned by @@Athos, if this comes from your garden, it's probably poor in nutrients and may contain fugus/pests/disease... Your don't want to neglect the quality of your substrate, it's hosting your babies for a while. I'll be around, hope you going to manage this, keep us up-to-date so we can help you again and adjust your parameters if needed, and happy growing bro! 👊

@Danweedman, Happy to help bro, I'll follow how it goes. Yes collecting pH & EC from the intake AND from the drain will give you lots of useful informations. Try to water more often with less water. 👊

@Stick, thanks bro! Please follow along with my grow - I like all the advice on here ! The plants are actually only on week 3 as I mentioned above to @athos . I’ll bump up ppm higher tonight and give them a good soak and I’ll measure the ph run off to check the soil ph? I think that’s how you do it? You’re right about the lights too I was worried it would get too hot but I moved it closer since it’s an air cooled hood and I have fans over the whole area anyways. I’ll try and increase humidity a bit. I’m assuming giving the plants a good soaking will do that anyways tonight. Substrate is organic potting soil from a garden centre locally. I was told it was good for tomatoes - looked great before now it seems grey , maybe I just need to water more often now lol

So I added a video update. I flushed the plants to get the proper soil PH .. it was wayyy off ( super high ) it took about a gallon of low PH water to get the run off of all the plants to a good level of 6.5-6.7PH across the board. I’m assuming now I can focus on just mainting proper PH of ongoing watering and the soil PH should no longer be an issue and stay consistent ? Thanks !

Looking good man. In flower weed likes a little higher PH I’d suggest you take it up to 6.5 maybe a little more N what addatives do you have?
TheWeedMan
TheWeedMan
@PharmaZ, I’ve never heard of pissing on plants lmao. I was only going to flush the two most mature plants if they look closer to being ready. The other 3 I’m going to continue the regular feedings until they look mature which is a few more weeks away.
PharmaZ

@Danweedman, yes get backstrap molasses they can help. They feed carbs to the micro life in the soil which break down the nutrients and feed them to the plant as they go through their life cycle they then die providing more food to the plant. urinate into the mix with molasses this is going to add nitrogen make sure you have a good pee into at least 10L (1wiz/10L) I’m being serious don’t take this as a joke bro. Mix up the molasses 1-2 tablespoons with warm water so it dissolves 1st... if you can bubble the mix with an air stone do it. Just before you’re about to feed your plants pull down your pants and pee into the watering vessel. Then feed enough to each plant that you have little run off. Others may just say flush. It I believe you will be ripening your plants to early, you still have at least 4 maybe 5 weeks on some of those plants
TheWeedMan
TheWeedMan
@PharmaZ, thanks man. It’s at 850ppm right now. Tryin to cut down on the yellow. I’m pretty happy over all so far .. I don’t have an additives to the soil other than General hydroponics flora nutes and calmag. I was thinking about getting some Black molasses , I heard that can help.. thoughts??
Hilkes_Herbs
Hilkes_Herbsweek 4
I think you should give them more water and really water the whole pot at least once. The roots will find the way too it and if you have more roots you'll have more fruits 😇 The soil mix also looks a little strange to me I don't know what kind it is. If it's not soil, what else is it? If you give little human babies more nutrients than they need, will they grow faster? So do plants. Good luck with the grow 👍
Hilkes_Herbs
Hilkes_Herbs
@Danweedman, don't give too much fertilizer! Soil buffers a lot and if you give them too much fertilizer the roots get blocked by the salts. You should give them only half of what the fertilizer company tell you. In the beginning at least :-) Njoy growing!
TheWeedMan
TheWeedMan
@Hilkes_Herbs, thanks man. Stick around and help out please ! I’ll give them a good watering tonight and soak the pot and measure ph run off. I’ll also bump up feedings too. For your first grow your doing an awesome job. White widow is a great first grow strain and your gonna have some excellent weed when you harvest. Only tidbit I can offer is make sure your girls go the full 8 weeks and you dont harvest early. I know its a bitch to wait, been there done that but it is well worth the wait. Nice pics on the trichones. I like to wait till there is a few red ones before I start clipping buds.
TheWeedMan

@chopdoc, thanks bro. They’re on week 11 now , two are almost done but still packin on some weight. The other 3 are a few weeks behind for some reason! I’m waiting for some amber trichs to appear too

650 PPM is too high for veg, specially a plant just out of seedling stage. Any reason you are feeding so early?
TheWeedMan
TheWeedMan
@@Athos, I know man! I learned my lesson really quick after that feeding. Someone on here mentioned 650ppm feedings and went with it. It quickly gave the plants heavy green leaves and needed a light flush to dilute the extra nutes. I took your advice I believe and quickly lowered feedings back to 350ppm which is in line with a GH cannabis feed chart I found.

Yo! Hopefully ur not struggling with too much info but ur getting advice from the right dudes on here for sure. Listen to Athos and stick as these guys know their shit. If ur first grow then ur already wayyy ahead of the game and the plants look great. Best advice u got already - keep it simple and focus on watering when necessary. Once their dried out and the soil is dry to the touch (up to your small index finger knuckle - the pots should feel “light” when u lift em) - water them through with approx. 10-20% runoff. Easy on the nutes for now, you can dial it up on subsequent grows when u get a feel for proper amounts (this varies by strain too). Don’t even worry about your end yields, that will take care of itself and you’ve already set the stage perfectly to max these out bro! Looking great! 👍
PharmaZ
PharmaZweek 8
You can lift the light up a bit, and increase your feed to at 700ppm that’s 1.4EC make sure your water is nice and oxygenated, what is your water source?

The plants in reality are only about 3 weeks old since the sprout actually opened from the soil but I’ve counted time since I saw the root tail open during germination. As for the soil , it is actually Organic potting soil from the local gardening centre. It Was recommended to me by an elderly attendant that said it grew great tomatoes. So I think the soil quality is good. I’m thinking I may have just over estimated my time line by a week making me think they’re smaller than they should be after thinking about it.

@Danweedman, well, I have been told by Fast Buds that Auto's start to make flowers when the roots hits the side of the pots and they feel there's not much space left to grow.
TheWeedMan
TheWeedMan
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, thanks for the helps barns. I hope you follow along with my grow ! Extra advice is always useful. Keep in mind they are about 3 weeks old in reality. I read online it’s better to put Auto strains in their final pots rather than transplanting a bunch of times , I could be wrong on this but I don’t think I’ll be reducing them down to smaller pots at this point. The soil is dry, perhaps I’m under watering now , I’ll give it a good soak with higher ppm water/Nutes and see results tonight. Thanks!
JUNGLE_B4RNS
JUNGLE_B4RNS
@Danweedman, there's no timeline in a plant , there's only phases and stages ... the time it takes to go from one phase/stage to another doesn't depends on your chronometer, it depends on your plant health and her capacity to photosynthetize... You're having watering problems because of your pots size , your pots are too big for such small plants, for this size of plant they shall be in a 1.5l pot. There's an easy way to water your plants, just lift the pot after watering , it shall be very heavy, and keep the weight in mind , when the pot start to get light weight it means it needs water again. But as your pots are too big for the moment it would take about 10 days between 2 watering.... Your plants are between the seedlings stage and the Veg stage actually and you shall be around 400ppm's , so ... yes you can ... bump your feeding 😉

@mideastern yeah the soil drains just fine. It dries out in about two-three days from a complete soaking. The soil was just too high in PH I believe, since I’ve corrected that the plants seem to have responded very nicely. Much more vigorous growth and the leaves have a healthier green colour to them. Thanks for adding your input ! Your grow journals look amazing!
