Large gorilla zkittlez pheno taking off. Ideal pheno in my opinion. Extremely vigorous growth. Responds well to high levels of pruning and light. Estimated 1500-2000 ppfd. Also first to show flowers. Just took clones of her a few days ago. Other phenos are pretty much identical. Short plants incredibly bushy. Love LST and topping. Heavy feeders. Maui wowie is growing great also. She does not like pruning or heavy feeds. Grows vigorously when fed less. Likes LST. Hard to tell differences in smell. Structure is similar to gorilla zkittlez but much less side branching making it less bushy. Nice dominant arms. No complaints so far, I’ve grown some bad seeds before that reveg on their own or hermie. These seem strong like nothing can stop them.

Should I defoliate more? side branching is intense and I'm not sure if it will result in larf or actual nug. Trimmed a lot of the weak looking side braching that was not exposed to light. Still looks rather bushy for my liking but I don't want to stunt them or reduce yields.

I wouldn’t take off anymore leaves at all.. but if you are wanting to concentrate bud production up higher I would probably take some of the actual buds off of that bigger pheno you have. Just on the older lower growth, like maybe two nodes/bud sites on each branch so you still have plenty above it. That lower stuff won’t be as dense like you’re saying.. it’s up to you if you don’t mind some of the popcorn bud leave it be but if you prefer focusing on the big tops, definitely take a few lower bud sites on each branch. I usually leave like 4-6 nodes up on the top of each branch depending on the strain and how close or far the internode distance is. Good luck!

Everything going smoothly. All girls showing signs of flowers. No issues except for some light nutrient burn on the smaller plants but only a couple leaves and could be natural. Decreased overall potassium so that should help. Maintained an 8 inch light distance every day. The big girl keeps reaching within inches of the light. She showed some signs of light burn but just on a top because it was way too close to light (touching). Cannot wait to see what the next few weeks bring!

Fungus gnats annoyed me enough to get some bt. Mixed 3ml per gallon and it wiped them out completely in 2 days. Just started using big bud no opinions yet. All plants are really beginning to fatten up. I got incredibly lucky with my phenos but also trained them right and they seem to be creating a “screen of nugs”. Developed my own training method called JOG. A modified scrog/sog where no trellis is used but I create a basic frame then pull large colas to the side. This creates a perfect ppfd under my lights since the middle reaches 1200 ppfd and the sides around 800 ppfd at 8 inches away. Roughly 50-55 dli a day at 8 inches. My theory is the middle of leds is a hot spot so I pull all the colas out and even the u/mol received by each part of the plant. Ever nug is evenly ripening which is awesome! Pheno to pheno they all seem to be flowering at the same speed with the large pheno flowering slightly faster. There is a difference in the smell between tents but I’m currently thinking that’s from the Maui waui (lemon and citrus smell). Dropped ph tester in res, ordered a new high quality one that I hope lasts me multiple grows opposed to buying a new one every grow. Been adjusting ph by feel (lol if you have only grown hydro you may know what I mean 😂). Ph was off a little with nitrogen so I had some leaves die low, removed them after pictures were taken and also relolipoped the second tent. The gz#4 has crazy side branching and you have to prune to channel the energy or you will end up with a lot of larf. Removed a lot of branching that would do nothing but make loose flower down low.
