So in total I tossed in 11 seeds. 4x are original White Widow XXL Dinafem. 2X are the same strain but are testers from a stressed out plant from a previous harvest. Then there is the new Canadian breeder on the scene. Butterbean Birdseed has developed a reputation around a few hydro stores. So I decided to give them a try. Of the 5 I soaked 5 came up green. The strain is a Gorilla Glue 4 crossed with Wedding Cake Auto. We'll see how this works out but a 100% germination is a pretty good start.
So after a week or so 10 out of 11 seem to be doing well. I know starting LST this early can be tricky but my last harvest I went hard on LST and I got a very high yield. The Gorilla Cake by Butterbean are keeping pace as well. Most of them are having some LST of some form. I'm just waiting till they are tall enough to bend really. I clipped one or two leaves as to expose nodes on the plants. I also upped the nutes by upping A + B to 1ml per liter and adding cal mag. I think in a week or I'll bump up the feed again. I'm using about 1.5 L per every 3 or 4 days with now run off as of yet. When there on the cusp of flowering that's when I will add enough to do a run off. Only one seed seems to be stuttering and that's one of my WW testers. No big deal but so far I'm fairly happy with what's going down.
So I may have been delayed on the new update so I consider this entry week 3ish. According to my written records my WW sprouted 30 days ago and my Gorilla Cake 25. I am see a bit of preflower already on one of the WW. I finally had to take my lights up a few inches finally. LST on the WW's have worked fantastic with one plant with as many as 6 top nodes. The GC the LST has worked less so. However they are very healthy plants and I hope they start to pre flower soon as this is a new breeder on the scene and I am taking a risk with this one. But so far so good. Did some standard defoliation to avoid pests on bottom and exposé nodes so they would grow taller. Since this will probably be the last feeding before obvious flower I upped the base nutrients. I also decided to use fish shit this week as it works best in moist soil. Once the soil dries out microbes don't work as well.
So we now have a solid 30 days of veg from sprout. I mentioned that the WW are starting to have hairs. Well I have noticed a few hairs on the GC's now as well. I will be putting my lights on full in about a week as I am considering that my veg cycle is nearly complete if not already. I will be switching to bloom nutrients once I flip on my bloom switches. Thankfully this last week was a feed schedule. I am now putting 5 L in these 3 gal smart pots and square pots. I rarely water due to the moisture being retained. I have dialed down the RH down to around 60% . Temps are not exceeding 79F. LST has been a great success and I have many top nodes.
So far so good. The plants seem to be flowering at this stage. The canopy is nice lush and green. All the LST done before had paid off and I have removed most of my tie downs. The canopy is fairly even with about the difference between beeing at most 2 inches different depending on the plant. Naturally since the WW are a few days aghead they are showing more signs of flower the the Gorilla Cake. However the GC seems to be doing ok and Butterbean just might have a place in my collection further down the road. Fish shit really seems to be helping as vertical growth has really taken off. Speaking on taking off defoliation has been my mantra over the last week. If it's a fan leaf covering a node it get's clipped. Same with the under brush. Going to up nutrients next week with introducing honey chome at half strength and king kola at 2ml per liter. Really looking forward to the next few weeks it's gonna be nuts.
So as we move futher along into the flowering stage you can see that not all plants are blooming as fast. However I believe that all will be cut at the same time since the Gorilla Cake finishes faster. My WW is coming in strong as per usual. She's a very tall high yielding plant that last time I grew clocked in at 24% THC. I'm even happier to see the test seed I got from my last crop turn out to work so far. It is budding along and so far the nodes are looking good on her. I honestly have no idea how I was able to produce a couple of seeds of this (15) but it's nice since Dinafem are in court right now. Might not get to see this strain once I'm done growing out so it's nice to know I can have a few runs of it. The butter Bean Gorilla Cakes are keeping pace as well. I missed one feed with 2 plants but they seem to be making it in stride. I upped the base nutes to 1.5 and the fact that I added in my trace boosters it should more than make up for it. This week is the last of my fish shit. My sample bottle ran out so from here on out for the next 3-4 weeks will only be emerald harvest. As you can see the canopy is nice and wide. May not be too tall this round but they shot up like crazy and almost doubled in height for some plants.
So this week was a bit of roller coaster. I have been having issues with humidity and I needed to put it down to 50% so that the bud sites would grow normally and not produce any rot. Typically I run my dehumidifier outside my tent due to temp issues. However last week during the dark period it was spiking near 70% which is a very bad thing. So I moved my dehumidifier inside the tent and opened a few flaps. Unfortunately this has led to temperature spikes to 82F. Thankfully autos are tough and can stand it but my terpines will take a bit of a hit unfortunately but I'd rather have bud that has less flavor than moldy bud. The weather in Ontario hasn't been co operating due to the rain and warm temps we usually don't see in October. Thankfully seasonal weather is coming down and my furnace will be turned on and my basement will become dryer soon. Some bud sites have developed very well while others are still small a bit. As of yesterday I upped my king kola to 3ml per liter. This should ensure good development in the next week or two as we enter the final 30 days of growth. My canopy height is a guestimation as I didn't measure but i'm 6'3 and my canopy is at waist height so take it for what it is. So far I am happy with the pace this is going at. WW is by far developing faster than the Gorilla Cake but the GC's are fully flowering and seem to be stable. I am happy that this new Canadian breeder seems to be doing well in my tent and my hydro shop owner didn't do me wrong in recommending this auto. I will also be releasing the second half of season 2 of grow nation in the next week or so stay tuned to dopefiend.co.uk for updates.
So the buds seem to be fattening up. The White Widow especially. I am concerned a lot about my Gorilla Cakes as they don't seem to be stacking up well. Aside from the odd deficient fan leaf the canopy is nice and healthy. My humidity issues are minimized now that I have my dehumidifier in the tent. Most it will spike is for 2 hours in the low 60s. I maintain a lights on humidity at or slightly below 50. Heat is really my only main concern. I have about 3 weeks left to go on this so crossing my fingers the GC's will produce more.
So to my relief the Gorilla Cake's are finally starting to fatten out a little but. Not major nugs but enough be considered a solid bud. The aroma is really starting to come in as a puple ish flora smell. The kind that reminds your of fresh birthday cake smell out of the oven. As for my white widows they are chugging along very nicely. You will notice the bud size difference even though some of the plants are smaller than the GC's but have a much thicker cola. As for nutrients I am going to cut off in a few days. I'm waiting for more brown hairs on the GC's to end the feed. Hopefully my trust in ButterBean hasn't been mis placed and the quality will come through. Who knows. Only work I've done on the plants are defoliation at the bottom or getting rid of dead leaves.
So we are now into the final stretch of these two strains. 5 White Widow and 5 Gorilla Cakes. I had 100% germination rate and the only plant I tossed was a WW tester seed I had gotten from a previous harvest. It failed to root so I wasn't too upset about it since this is not abnormal for this to happen. Some seeds just don't come to fruition and that's ok. In fact due to my humidity issues early on in the flowering stage it was actually a benefit since I had to put my dehumidifier in the tent. As for the second tester I had in the tent it's doing very well. Not as dense as the original seeds from dinafem but for some reason it's super frosty. I can't wait to chop it down.
As for the Gorilla Cakes I'm a bit on the fence with them. On the one hand I don't have nearly the amount of brown hairs on my plants like I do with the WW and I was a bit concerned that I'm going to chop them a bit early. However the tricombs are fairly cloudy and from what I have heard wedding cake pretty much stays white up until harvest. The tricomb development was slow however some plants are almost as frosty as the WW. Now I haven't grown either gorilla glue or wedding cake so my knowledge of these strains is some what limited. I was told by the person who sold me these beans that the THC will be higher than the WW. We shall see what comes to my lungs after harvest.
As you can see I have stopped feeding so to have a proper flush with the plants. So at this point we are in cruise control and just watering plain PH balanced water. I won't be posting for a while due to obvious reasons but it appears that the new kid on the block (ButterBean) is bringing something to the table. Hope you've enjoyed the updates I had a fun time growing these autos and aside from the humidity issues it's been very smooth sailing. My last update won't be coming for a few weeks but you will see the results of my harvest.
Easy to grow, easy to harvest and easy to smoke. This strain should have just been called easy. I know this because this is the same autoflower I depend on to have a nice bumper crop. It really isn't anything fancy to it but it's great quality smoke. Great strain for beginners.
Smells and taste like the purple fruity pebble flinstone vitamin you took as a a kid. Burns white ash and is a good quality smoke. Has tinges of purple hues which is really nice. Buds a extremely compact and dense. If your a recreational use your gonna like this. But if you are medical I would recommend that you grow something else.
