started a purple haze seed, cant remember how long it took to sprout a tap root but once the root was at least a half inch I put her in coco with bloom and roots tomato formula 3-3-3 and some happy frog fert. She sprouted the 25th of july and would give her about shot glass worth of water ph'd 5.8-6.3
So I have been treating this like a coco grow..because well I'm growing in coco..lol to say there are problems ahead is an understatement. Let me walk you through my journey of stress and confusion and just instincts. I have been ph'ing the water{tap} to around 5.8 to 6.4 and usually water once to every other day at this point and have been watering around the plant to get it to spread its roots, while making sure the coco doesn't go dry. If you noticed I have a lot of plants in here a couple of them are flowering so i have been trying to keep the humidity low and the lights at the moment cant get any lower for the little girls, so needless to say they are going to stretch! Btw dont be like me and put your hygrometer on a humidity reducer because you wont get accurate temps around canopy level.
Friends! Do you see what's happening? Any guess's...leave a comment. You can notice a few plants not doing so hot here, they are the ones in coco with dry amendments. Stay tuned.. it gets worse but so much better!
So let me start by saying I wanted to top and do a bunch of training to these girls but this laundry list of issues have stopped me from doing anything other than finding the answer. So as I was saying in the previous weeks, I have been treating this like a coco grow and watering everyday at a ph of 5.8-6.2 so I can get a better spectrum of nutrients available to the plants. Admittedly this is my first coco grow but not my first grow in general. As the days have progressed I start noticing my plants showing signs of stress, that stress came in the form of heat, light, nutrient burn ,nutrient deficiency..I know what a cluster of what the actual fuck. I am active in many subreddits, ilgm forums and reached out to my fellow peers to weigh in on what could be wrong , the general consensus was not watering everyday and at a stable ph of 5.8 and heat stress and light stress from the obvious tacoeing leaves. I really couldn't do anything about my humidity levels because of my flowering plants{downfall to no extra tents/space and risk rot and mold. After all the info I received I decided to do a test, water everyday {even if they felt heavy af} and let my other auto dry out more, like soil because I exhausted all other options,
I checked the run off ppm and it was higher than snoop dogg on 420, it came out to around 4500-5000ppm. Having knowledge of safe ppm levels I instantly new this was way to high. I did some research and without the proper expensive tools I couldn't accurately test my ppm because of the slow release dry amendments, I also checked the runof ph and it came back at 5.1 so i knew I was out of my nutrient spectrum .So i decided to flush my purple haze and blueberry brought the ppm down to 900, using tap water because i didn't have 12gallons of ro water available, my tap is a steady 350ppm so i should have a lower amount of nutes.
Alrighty guys, gals and last but not least and certainly not forgotten about me my gnomies, after my flush with tap water which comes out at a ph of 7.4 I put my test into full power, one plant ph at 5.8 water everyday, and the other a ph of 6.8 and water when dry or light. Looking at my girls {reading her stress signs} and reading everything i could find about growing in coco and exhausting all other tests to see if everything is in range my gut was telling me she getting overwatered and had wet feet for too long. I'm sure some of the coco growers here will have a particular look on their face after reading the words overwatered coco.. It is possible to overwater in coco but not in the same sense if you were to grow directly in soil because the air holding capabilities that coco has. A few days pass doing this test and i can immediately tell my girl that's been drying out has been improving so i switch to watering when dry/light. I also didnt add any extra nutes after i flushed because I decided to pick up the fox farm trio and wanted to water with no nutes for a few watering's then start the liquid
Getting caked, trichs climbing the fan leaves. I goofed up on my uploads and what not, these are week 9 now about 3-4 weeks into flowering. I cant believe this is the same plant from the beginning. It is truly impressive to watch them grow and bounce back. ps week 7 is also week 9. messed up a bit sorry gnomies
Sorry about the lack of photos between the last few weeks, my 4x4 filled up quickly and had to figure out what to do with it all. Sadly this is my only option for the foreseeable future but let me tell you that this girl has quadrupled its size! We are on week 8 in this picture and as you can see i havent had to do any defoliation and this ts600 is being put to work. I would like to have a different setup including lights and tents...lol wouldnt we all? I forget what week she startyed flowering but if i had to guess it was about week 5
I Have been using the foxfarm feeding schedule lightly, some watering's i would add less grow big and more big bloom because she had an overall dark green hue in her leaves and didn't want her getting an nitrogen toxicity. She has been giving less than ideal conditions because i have been mainly focused on my 4*4, i have been watering about a half gallon every other day at this point and she seems to have a calmag issue that isnt going away, without a stronger dose of the general hydro calmag. So I stopped taking pictures for a little bit, life kind of happened so i was preoccupied and couldnt find the time to take beauty shots
So ill start by saying the obvious, this grow was by no means an accurate representation of its genetics and would love another try at it. Im honestly not concerned about weight when it comes to growing, i like the terps and the potency and she smells strong! These were the last few photos before i chopped her down two weeks later, ill update and add a harvest when shes done drying.
