Decided I'd give coco a go again after finally getting an automatic watering system up and running. I've decided to try the hempy bucket style to see if that will help reduce the amount of water wasted, which really put me off of coco the first time around.
For those that don't know. A hempy bucket is a solid bucket with one drainage hole about two inches from the bottom of the bucket thus creating a reservoir of perlite and nutrient water below the hole. The remainder of the pot is filled with coco perlite mix. The water wicks up, while the roots are reaching down for it.
With the idea of simplicity for this grow I decided to feed with ph perfect sensi coco products as well as their bud boosters for fun.
The Forbidden runtz auto from fastbuds intrigued me the most of my selection. It could be another of those monster autos that has some intriguing flavours.
I'm going to try pushing this plant a little harder than I normally would so I'm fully expecting some error along the way. Hopefully nothing too critical, but I'll go easy on myself anyway. This many years and I'm still no expert.
Not much to show or talk about this past week. I purchased a flora flex wicking mat to reduce the erosion effect of the rain ring. I am still watering by hand for now every few days but it will come in handy later on I think.
Coming along nicely now. Now that i've got the ec up a bit I shouldn't have to worry about the calmag issues that happen with coco. The brand I am using was buffered so it wasn't a big issue but a couple of the leaves went a little wonky because of it last week.
She's growing pretty quick, not really sure what to expect for a final size considering the bucket is only 2 gallons. I know they can get a bit bigger in coco but we'll just have to wait and see. Not planning on topping or lst as I want to see this plant as is. I will still defoliate the bottom later on but that's about it.
Growth really took off this week and the beginning of flower is clearly under way. I did a little defoliation of the lower parts of the plant but it's growing so fast it didn't seem to make a difference 2 days later. I will be getting some big bud coco, hopefully soon, which I will incorporate as soon as I can.
The growth on this lady is absolutely unbelievable. Every day is a noticeable difference. I've switched to bloom nutrients and I'm loving the ph perfect benefit as well. They appear to be providing everything she needs for now. I was a little concerned about combining this dtw style with a hempy bucket but it appears to be working.
Yeah, so maybe I overdid it with the nutes. I've switched the big bud out for overdrive but reduced the overall ec. Don't know if it'll cause any serious trouble but it's getting pretty close to the end anyway.
She's fucking huge!! Holy shit! I'm shocked that this plant has filled my tent wall to wall and there are buds everywhere!! Maybe I should have topped this thing😄 sadly she is showing signs of damage from the overfeeding but it doesn't seem to be slowing her down any
She's really showing those burn marks from a couple of weeks ago now and is looking pretty well aged because of it. It's unfortunate but she's still fine even though I'm sure she would be absolutely beautiful if I hadn't have burned her. The buds look great and very frosty at this point, some are cloudy now and I'm sure it will only be another week or two before she is done. I will start flushing very soon more than likely.
Spent the last week flushing in preparation for the harvest. Mostly cloudy trichomes with just a few Amber's. I'm sure she'll be good in just a few days from now. The smell is absolutely knockout, incredibly pungent, sweet, fruity and skunky.
Impressively potent and dense buds on this one. It's unfortunate that I nute burned this plant as I'm sure it would have been even more beautiful. Impressive yield of nice chunky, curvy, nuggets that have a sweet funky fruity smell with a hint of citrus that brightens the funk up a bit. I would say this variety is mostly indica. Probably 70/30 if I had to rate it by feeling.
I gotta admit, these look like pretty solid genetics.
This took a few weeks to get going but once it did it really took off. I decided to let it grow naturally without lst or topping as I was not expecting it to get so large in such a small bucket. I'm very happy with this growing method now that I have an automatic watering system set up and ph perfect nutes to work with. It's unfortunate that I pushed it a little to far with the ec but she recovered and continued growing vigorously to the end.
As far as the yield goes I was pretty surprised.
98 grams of solid nice buds ranging in size from a quarter to as long as a standard lighter.
70 grams of larfy buds from the lower branches and that was with a fairly heavy defoliation part way in to flower.
She was harvested at day 88 from sprout and slow dried. Trying to cure in grove bags to see how they work.
Thanks for checking out the grow and for leaving likes and comments along the way. I always appreciate tips and feedback on any of my grows and I wish you all the best with your grows.
For some reason my harvest page does not include the ability to include the dry yield, the sativa/indica percentage or the specific odors of the plant. I have included them throughout my writings here but I don't understand why these options were not available to me. I still see it in other dairies so...🤷♂️
Hey there, Thanks so much for running a diary of our genetics 🙌 Let us know if you need any assistance, we’re more than happy to help. Happy Growing !!! 🌱☘️🌴🍀🌿🌳
Hey! Happy growing my friend! I hope you do well and get some good results! I will come by sometime to see your progress!
If you ever visit my page please say hello!
Peace & love L.S.T
@420Highlifecouple, it's crazy how big they get in a hempy bucket. This was only a 2 gallon bucket. I think it's the reservoir of nutes at the bottom very similar to a dwc but without the hassle of changing the res out every week. Thanks for checking out my diary.
Beautiful plant 🌱 I’m currently running a similar setup but draining to waste. Now I gotta look up a Hempy bucket and see if I can reduced the waste water!
