Soaked in water for 48 hours, until taproot popped. Dropped her in a prepared rockwool cube, and 48 hours later the sprout stood up. By day 2 her first set of leaves opened but... on day 4 she almost died!! I added a second led bulb to my veg bucket and the increase in light and heat at too young a stage caused her to wilt and fall over. I thought she might be a gonner but i gave her some water and removed the extra light. By the next morning she was standing again! At day 7 I put her into her permanent home. I probably should have waited because i think putting her in such a large pot for this stage slows growth a little. But she'll bounce back quickly.
Slow growth week. Not sure if it's the big pot or the fact that she almost died a week ago but for first half of week she didn't show much growth, then I added another bulb once she looked established, and she started pushing out new growth. Looking healthy and starting side branching.
Nice growth this week. Leaves fattening up, side branches growing, nodes popping. From day 19 onward she started exploding with growth. So far everything is looking good and I will probably top her in a week.
Growing strong. She's drinking more and I'm pushing up the nutes little by little. I haven't even started LST but she looks like she'll be a bush. On day 25 I topped her. Just 2 days later she's bouncing back. But...The 4th node branches looked so strong that I only topped her to 4th node instead of 3rd. We'll see what happens.
Started LST. Trying to spread colas out and create an even canopy in the future. Noticed a lot of the new leafs are twisted and a little curled. Thinking it could be PH related I tested my PH pen , tried to calibrate it, ..and it's broken. I ordered a new pen and changed out the reservoir. At the end of the week she started to show sex and put out pre-flowers. New leafs are looking good.
This week she started her pre-flower stretch. Pistils are starting to pop and there's new growth everyday. No defoliation yet, just leaf tucking.
One weird thing...on day 38 I noticed that one lower branch had leafs that are looking wilted. There are no signs of physical damage, but all the larger fan leafs are wilted like they aren't getting water to them. But the top and smaller leafs look ok.
Here come the flowers! I love this stage of the plant. It grows so fast and changes overnight. Bud sites are forming and coming in nicely. Looks like they're stacking nicely, there is good spacing between nodes so hopefully they will be able to fill the space.
I've mostly been leaf tucking all the larger leafs to allow light to get to the lower bud sites. Just removing a few blocking leafs that i can't tuck. At the end of the week I did a light defoliation of the lower canopy and a couple "sucker" branches.
Lots of flowery tops makes me happy.
Started this week with a strong nute mix ( 1540ppm) because I added some PK 13/14 to the mix. Mid-week I tested the runoff and it was through the roof ( 1930 PPM !!). Although the plant didn't show any signs of burn, I figured it was better to get the PPM's back to a reasonable level so I don't get some kind of lockout. I flushed the plant with a few gallons of ph'd water and then a nute mix that was watered down to 900 PPM, The rest of the week I fed her at around 1150PPm and checked the runoff every time.
By end of week the frost started to come in.
Tops getting frostier, colas getting fatter. Looking good this week. I've been running my UVB bulb for 1 - 1.5 hours a day in the evening. I know there isn't any proof about the UVB increases THC production, but i've seen enough professional growers use the larger UVB T5 bulbs, and a lot of the new LED grow lights have some UVB chips on them. So why not?
Also been watching the runoff. Not sure why, but even though I flushed it down to 900 PPm, then watered with 1100 - 1200 PPM for the week, the runoff creeps up to 1600. I'm not worried about it, just curious to understand. I'm guessing the Coco is holding on to nutrients, or the reservoir becomes more concentrated because the plant is drinking more H2O than up-taking nutrients.
Looking good this week. Another round of pistles popped, and she's getting frostier. I doubt the buds will swell any more, so were just waiting for the trichs to ripen, probable a couple weeks out. I've been backing off on the nutes, and going to ween her off completely for the last week. I gave her a good defoliation mid-week, to get light down lower so it can ripen evenly.
On cruise control this week. Going easy on the nutes and blasting her with UVB for 1.5 hours an evening. I plan to flush her next week and then she gets the chop.
Beautiful golf ball sized nuggs. Very dense and sticky, with a dank smell. Seems 50/50 with the sativa/indica cross but these plants seem to vary a bit genetically.
So i flushed her on the weekend and then ran her another week with just water. So she went 6 full weeks in flower. At the end she started to fade a little, looked cool. I chopped her and did a wet trim. I didn't bother with wet weight and just hung colas to dry in my ghetto dry box. I gave her 5 days hanging. The nuggs were just getting crisp but still squishy. When I cut them up for jarring I was pleased with the size of the nuggs. A lot of them were golf ball sized and dense. Solid buds. This is my third plant and the best looking buds so far.
Weighed in at exactly 4oz. Nice!
They are curing in jars at 65% humidity, and getting aired out once a day.
Thanks y'all.
<check my Strawberry Nuggets for current grow >
...up next Alien Vs. Triangle (the sequel)
Boss, your plant is beautiful. I hate mine, looks like 50% larf and the rest nice tiny buds. Unfortunately I’m growing it next to Strawberry Nuggets with dense hard buds the size of small lemons. Your documentation with the wonderful photos keeps me from not screaming about mine.
@MadMama, lol, thanks. I updated the diary, she came out very nice. I defoliated some branches early on that I thought would only be larf, that might have helped her concentrate energy on fatter colas. But tbh, I'm still learning.
Do you think the leaves could've been hitting your LED lights on the side of the bucket? I've never heard of this strain. I'll have to check it out and learn a bit about it. Everything looks so healthy and green! Those leaves are thick like kale!
@Quexos, i's not light burn. but acting almost like it's being strangled. droopy and wilting while the other branches looked good. I cut it off. didn't want it to waste the energy.
Those buds are looking really nice. I pushed my last grow hard with AN flowering nutes. I got a little burn towards the end, but that nutrient line was really forgiving. I'm not sure about Canna products, but as long as you don't go crazy I think that most of these lines won't steer you wrong.
You are pretty far along in your bud formation and your plant looks super healthy. I wouldn't worry that much about lock out. Of course it never hurts to scale back before something goes horribly wrong!💀
The pheno of this Mephisto looks so funny next to my Mephisto Strawberry Nuggets. The Forum Stomper is growing long and spindly. The Strawberry Nuggets grows like a broccoli stalk.
You might need to flush a bit more. I just read an article that recommended flushing from 1200PPM-400PPM. That would require a lot more rinsing of your medium. However, based on your photos, I don't see anything wrong with your current procedures. Your buds look frosty and dense. The plant itself looks like its in great shape. It looks like everything is working as intended.
last few days I've been watering to runoff close to 60% overflow, and it still comes out a little higher than what goes in. Like you said, the plant is overall healthy, so I'm not worried, just trying to understand. But I have noticed a tiny bit of burn on a lot ( most) of my tips, so I think I've been flirting with nuking her but caught it early.
