10/3 - Just getting started with 2 ILGM GSC Extreme seeds in RapidRoot peat cubes in a dark, warm, and hooded incubator. 2 days in and sprouts are starting to poke through. Good things to come!
10/5 - Moved to coco coir and pearlite fabric pots and put the lights on. Let's go!
10/7 - Added a humidifier to help spur the seedlings
Transferred the seedlings to the 5 gallon pots to start the week.
Keeping coco moist at all times with premixed nutrients.
Running humidifier to maintain high humidity levels for another week or so.
I had been running the lights 12/12 for the 1 1/2 weeks by accident and switched to 18/6 at the end of last week. Growing quickly despite that mistake.
Got the nutrient mix going into pots right finally. Runoff is a bit high but will adjust down over time.
Runoff:
--------
#1 TDS: 939
PH 6.1
#2 TDS: 879
PH 5.9
Built a halo drip system with a 5 gallon tank, oxygenator, aquarium pump and a halo dripper
Scheduled to run for 2 mins 2x/day (5 am and 3:30 pm)
Topped plant at 3rd node and will be manifolding for ScrOG when ready
Runoff at 795 PPM and 5.7 pH
Runoff stabilized at 595 PPM and 5.5 pH
Began 4-way LST after topping grew out a bit
Starting the week off with topping the 4-way LST structure
Tied down the 4 main arms
Added Diamond Nectar to the mix
Adjusted the aeration of the nutrient solution
Began defoliation in lower and mid level fans that were overgrown and shading out new growth
Did some major defoliating at the start of the week. The plant was getting way too dense and the stems are getting so thick it's hard to keep them bent with anchors in the coco. I know this is very aggressive but I'm hoping this will create a cleaner set of colas as things develop. No doubt it will slow down a bit as it recovers but I'm optimistic this will help get the growth going int he right direction. We shall see...
Already recovered!
Rebounding very quickly from defoliation
ScrOG working pretty well but it would be better the have smaller and tighter squares
Built an automatic runoff recovery with a pump to go with the auto drip system - testing before vacation
Switched to 12/12 to begin transition to flowering.
Also, going away for a week. This is the first time I've had to leave the plants all to the themselves, so I prepared extra nutrients, tweaked the feeding pump and its schedule, and set up a runoff pump with an external bucket. I also set up a web cam to keep an eye on it from afar :-) Fingers crossed that the house doesn't lose power, etc. But, at least I can check in on it and call in a friend if needed.
Happy Thanksgiving folks!
Biting my nails! This is the last week before pistils will emerge, so I dramatically defoliated lower branches and large fans. It should rebound but it's nerve wracking considering how well she was doing before the haircut. This is the last major defoliation, though I will likely do a little strategic manipulation during flowering at some point if it gets too bushy again.
Tied some branches out a little further to share the light, increase air flow and to shorten some of the taller ones. Trying to keep things close to equal in height. There are more than 20 roughly equal height branches now :-O
I changed the runoff pump to recirculate back into the feeding bucket rather than running to waste now since the volume and frequency of feeding is increasing and the PPM and pH remain pretty stable in the runoff. Will dump and refresh once a week now.
26+ main budding sites now...
- Flowering and the stretch has begun
- Performed more minor trimming (may need more before week ends)
- Adjusted nutrients for more aggressive flowering
CO2 CHANGES:
-----------------
- Sealed the tent
- Dropped filtered ventilation to minimum
- Added dehumidifier <50%
- Added runoff hose for dehumidifier to dump to fertigation runoff bucket
- Changed fertigation runoff to pump out to waste instead of recycle
- Added CO2 from tank and regulator
- Infusing .5 CuF CO2 for 30 sec then off for 10 mins (monitoring to find balance)
- Accidentally broke/bent one of the cola stems and taped it with duct tape :-(
- Performed a major defoliation now that the flowering has begun and the height is good. This makes me feel sick to my stomach but it's worked well so far. Wish me luck!
Fully into flowering cycle now. I performed a major defoliation last week to open up airflow and focus energy on budding. Super stressful but she's bouncing back well and it looks like things are on track.
I'm supplementing with compressed CO2 and maintaining a much higher temperatures as well.
I also increased the drip to 4x per day now and trying to keep runoff to about 1.5 - 2 liters to day. Running to waste now since I have the dehumidifier also dumping to the waste bucket in the tent before it gets pumped out.
Update: Starting to see more signs of nute burned tips but my nute mix should be okay. I think the extra feeding is the issues so I've dropped it back to 3x per day for now until the plant fills out again.
I performed the final (?) defoliation today and removed the ScrOG since it had outlived its usefulness. I did a few tie downs to keep things spread out a bit.
I had been having what appeared to have been a potassium deficiency due to a weird anomaly with the reservoir's pH. I may also have been late starting the KoolBloom supplement.
Also, added a small amount of Yucca as a wetting agent, some H2O2 to ensure a more sanitary drip system, and some HydroGuard to promote good bacteria for the roots in case that is where the nute issue came from.
Had some issues with pH and/or nute lockout again. I've been putting the card ahead of the horse a bit with the CO2 and heat, so I've stepped back now. Back to normal heat and CO2 levels for the rest of the grow. Hopefully the issues will die down again.
Well, the nute burn or lockout has continued a bit though it isn't getting worse very fast if it all now. Will continue to monitor and do a full flush and reset this week if needed.
Brown straight tips is potassium deficiency. I just grew this strain In coco. Your ph is likely drifting over 6.3 as well because she is really hungry. Feel free to check out my results. Was pretty neat. 👍🌱🌱
@CleverName, yes there is a balance in coco for sure. Nutrition too strong ph goes down. Not strong enough ph goes up. I have grown several plants in it. Once you get dialed In more of what it wants when during grow it helps with fluctuations in levels. You are still looking good 👍
@Roberts, thanks for the feedback! You're right, I had some pH and EC issues. I thought I had enough solution running through the coco on my watering schedule but I hadn't been checking the runoff very frequently due to the way I had the system set up (it was a pain to get just the fresh runoff or assess how much was running through). While addressing that design issue, I found that EC had gone wild and pH was off too. I assume that was due to salts getting trapped in the coco due to insufficient volumes running through. So, I have each schedule running substantially longer now and recirculating back into the reservoir instead of to waste and the numbers are back where they're supposed to be. I'm also checking the numbers going in and coming out daily now. I think she's recovering now (buds are still growing) but some damage has been done. We'll see how it plays out. Learning as I go :-)
I'll check out your grow now too. That should be a helpful reference. Thanks again!
