Trying an Auto Gelato from Quebec Cannabis Seeds this time, sharing a room with Joanna, a Jack Herer Auto started 11 days earlier. Day 3 - after 48 hours in a wet paper towel and developing a nice little taproot, I moved her to her new home. I'll think on her name while I wait for her to sprout Day 5 - she has sprouted! From here forth, her name shall be Vera Lynn. "Does anyone here remember Vera Lynn?". I'm doing my best to keep her environment humid with half a water bottle acting as a humidity dome along with regular misting. Pretty sure low humidity is what did in her roommate Joanna :(

Day 9 - Christmas, everything seems ok but so did the last one at this point. Keeping a clear plastic bottle top over Vera Lynn and spraying every few hours to keep the humidity up this time and hopefully avoid stunting the growth. Watering has been kept minimal, mostly with the spray bottle but a small amount poured just around the seedling to avoid overwatering, something that would be rather easy if i were to soak the whole (currently) oversized pot.

12/31 Vera's definitely doing better than Joanna, the Jack Herer that preceded her but still not the explosive growth I was hoping for. Using the same soil I used for my outside grow was definitely a mistake, corrected for future grows including Vera's sister Lynn, currently sprouting from a peat pellet, soon to be transplanted to some nice airy potting mix soaked with (quarter strength) root booster

Just spotted two yellow/orange spots on Vera, my young GelAuto. The bigger one is visible in the pic, the second is smaller and on another leaf. What is she trying to tell me?

I checked out your diary and did just a slight bit of research and I believe you're dealing with an excess of nutrients. Potentially this could lead to lock out and being that she's so young we don't want to stunt her so... I recommend feeding plain ph'd water for the week and see how she fairs. Or you can do a flush for a day or two until your run off ppm is much lower than it currently is. That's how you know you're flushing out the nutes. I think she can be saved by cutting back on nutrients until she looks hungry again. Good luck growmie!

Lynn sprouted Jan 2, transferred her peat pellet to potting mix in 3 gallon fabric pot the next day. I could just be optimistic but she already seems to be thriving. Just the 5mL/L ProMix Root Booster for her for now. Jan 4 - noticed two orange spots on Vera yesterday, just gave her plain water (pH 6.5) today and tomorrow just to be safe I'm not overdoing the nutes. She seems a little short to my inexperienced eye, I raised the lights about 6" to see if it makes any difference. It could also be from her roots being constrained by the black earth I foolishly used - was great outside, not so much inside Jan 6 - started some light LST on Vera, just anchoring one side and bending the top about 45°. I'll let it grow for a while, still pretty early so I'm not forcing her

Vera seems ok despite the orange spots that baffle me. Got a CalMag supplement so it's not that. Flushed with water a few days and run off was 6.5 pH. Lynn is farther behind being planted later but looks to be benefitting from the potting soil versus black soil

Working on training Vera with LST using some rubber coated wire. She's farther along than I'd like but I had to wait til she was tall enough. That was corrected once I raised the lights and Vera started reaching for it. Lynn is doing better, benefitting from proper growing medium Jan 19 - tied Vera down a little farther, she should be showing pre flowers soon unless theres something wrong I'm not aware of. Definitely didnt grow as fast as Lynn...someone is gonna get voted off the island before long, theres no way I can bring 5-6 plants to harvest in 2.5'×2.5', four will be pushing it :-(

Jan 22 - Lynn is looking droopy, her leaves slightly curled down. I'm gonna stop watering her for a while and hopefully that improves things :-/ Jan 23 - Lynn looks the same, still hopeful... Vera got a severe lollipop-style trim and tied down the remaining branches. Lollipopping is easier when the plant is more vertical, in this case I took off growth in the underside more than going by the bottom nodes...time will tell what havoc I have wrought.... Jan 26 - Vera recovered great from her trim & training. Pretty sure I'm seeing some pistil pre-flowering so I won't be doing much/any more to her Lynn looks good but small, i havent really noticed a lot of growth lately, hopefully just temporary Jan 27 - feeding

Jan 31 - Vera is well into preflower/flowering now, Lynn looks to just be started some pistils. Vera was definitely delayed in flowering, Lynn seems closer to 30 days. Gave Lynn some exfoliating and tied a few more branches down and outward, nothing to strenuous. Vera has recovered nicely from her last trim, I'm gonna look at thinning her out for some better airflow tomorrow night...maybe I can encourage her to grow towards the center to even her out but dont wanna stress her too much and interrupt her precious precious bud growing time. Both flowering now, its interesting that Lynn, grown in potting soil mix, flowered on time but hasnt grown as much as Vera, grown in soil and who took 6 weeks to flower....then again, having an extra 2 weeks to grow _would_ tend to make a plant larger....*smacks forehead and reaches for bong* Now I just have to figure out how much light is right...signs of light stress on some other plants had me yank them up to 24-30 inches and cut the Veg light off on the KingLED. The tips of the leaves are lighter than the rest but I can't tell if it's from before or since I started increasing the light again...or if it's even an issue, everything else looks healthy :-/ I'm looking forward to outdoor photos again, these autos are fucking finicky Feb 7 - feeding, bumped up Bloom concentration to ensure enough phosphorus

Feb 14 - feeding, all seems well for the most part, got some beautiful white hairs growing from the little budlets. They both seem to be around the same stage, and both farther along than their roommates, a pair of Gelato x Northern Lights also from QCS. I'm still playing with the lights, trying to find the right settings and distance. Using an android app which I assume isn't very accurate but even so it gives me an idea of the change in PPFD when I fiddle around

Feb 19 - feeding Just waiting this week, I looked on Amazon to see if I could order any Patience but I'm shit outta luck :-/ While small, Lynn is gorgeous, being the only plant showing the iridescent shine of trichomes. Both girls smell delightfully sweet, just as you would expect from the infamous Gelato :) Feb 25 - light feeding

Feb 28 feeding....wasnt planning on doing another feeding so soon but Lynn has suddenly developed some yellowing on her leaves...definitely some kinda deficiency as I've been feeding once a week at most and usually with less than recommended concentrations....hopefully it gets corrected, so far Lynn has by far the most enticing buds, sparkling with crystals and a wonderfully sweet bouquet. Mar 2 - I'm beginning to wonder about sulphur def. so I added some Epsom salts to ph=6.3 water today and checked the runoff from Lynn, 5.9 which is a little acidic but I think still within acceptable range. I'll ph balance my water a little higher from now on to try and raise it in the soil. N and K should be covered with the nutes, taller plants arent being stressed by the lights and I cant do much about the low humidity at this point so I think I've done all I can to try and correct this issue, now I gotta wait, my least favourite part of this wonderful new hobby :-/ Mar 4 - after further reading, I realize acidic soil would explain the deficiency (s) even tho they're getting plenty nutes. Watered with 1 tbsp sodium bicarb in a gallon of water. Even before doing this the discoloration seems to have stopped so hopefully we're all good. Vera's getting some nice red/orange hairs and they both smell so good I've already started another Gelato bean for the next round.

Some yellowing that developed on Gelato Auto in the last coupla days....my guess is nitrogen deficiency since feeding has been light throughout growth but I'm still new to the game and would love to hear from some more seasoned growers

@gottagrowsometime is correct, this is certainly a potassium deficiency, and with you being in late flower the plant could be telling you she needs more potassium which is important in the flowering stage, I wouldn't say you have a lockout after checking out your diary everything seems fine except for your humidity, low is good at this stage but not that low. Lol. It should be around 40-45%. With very low humidity, the plant is drawing water from the soil at a very high rate, and if the humidity is too low, the plant is unable to draw water at an equal rate through the stomatal openings. The result is that the plants close their stomata, which slows the photosynthetic process and leads to stress, slow growth, and compromised yield.

All seems reasonably well....there hasnt been any further discoloration of Lynn's leaves from the pH/nutrient imbalance so I'm hoping that's been rectified. PH was 6.8 before watering with 6.3. Not even sure if there will be time for another feeding, getting close to time for the flush. The hairs are turning red but so far all trichomes are crystal clear Mar 8 - Vera's true leaves have almost all gone yellow in under 48 hours. The soil seems to be around 7-7.2 so I fed her with a mild nutrient solution ph'd to 6.3. This will likely be her last feeding, hopefully I can get a 2 week flush in before I'm forced to harvest :-/ Mar 9 - final feeding for Lynn, planning on the chop for both sometime after the 21st, Vera's trichomes are starting to cloud up, she should be ready about then and Lynn probably shortly after

The flushing continues.....I dont know I'd its nutrient def or natural like trees in the fall but the yellow leaves seem to be darkening into some beautiful shades of orange and red....I'm checking the trichomes every other day or so, I'll chop them before the flush is finished if enough of them turn amber as I could use the space in the tent for some new grows and getting a jump on the outdoor plants.

This will be the last post before everything is cut and dried. Gonna chop Vera on the 21st and Lynn probably within a week of that. Vera may be getting chopped a little early, shes about 5% amber trikes now but I'm impatient and want the tent space. Lynn I'll be more patient with as shes the belle of the ball - dusted in sugar with beautiful red/maroon leaves. I'll be keeping her buds separate anyway as I'm betting they're more potent than Vera's just based on appearance and I'd like to test that theory. The buds are all surprisingly thick and dense considering the number of mistakes I made along the way.

I can only chalk this up to good seeds from QCS, I will definitely be buying from them again in the future and will be my first stop when seed shopping
