NLT x GELATO AUTO Got this fancy new strain with my Auto Gelato from Quebec Cannabis Seeds. I have taken the liberty of naming it Gelato Quebecoise or GQ for short. Started 2 seeds a week or so apart, both germinated in paper towel, the 2nd one transferred to peat pellet and the first to some black soil in a cleverly cut cup. Once I got some Miracle Gro Potting Soil, I planted the cup directly into its forever home. The peat pellet is still in its mini-greenhouse and the other gets covered with a DIY humidity dome to avoid low humidity seedling problems, along with regular misting. 12/29 - the seed transferred to peat pellet sprouted but the root was growing out of the peat so I planted the shoot directly into some potting mix in a 3 gallon pot. Time will tell if it will be ok. I've started another bean to be safe, I want at least one to have a good start. 12/31 Cup plant looks ok, I've only been watering around the cup to draw the roots out plus the soil in the cup is still pretty moist, not a terribly encouraging sign. Sister from the botched peat pellet (I gotta name these ladies) seems to have taken hold, almost wish she hadn't so I would know to start fresh instead of having to decide between her and a germinating seed...

Jan 1 - 7 Jan 4 - my third french girl sprouted today. Eloise was off to a somewhat slow start with the black earth but seems to be doing better now that shes had time to spread out into the nice loose potting mix. I wish someone would invent transparent soil, I would love to be able to see the root growth.

Started the girls on some nutrients, looking good. I love the potting soil and the way it absorbs the water, way bigger difference than black soil, whether it's because its indoor or auto, I dont know but I dont think I'll ever be using straight soil again Jan 13 - FIMed Eloise and Yvette, still too early for Genevieve and I may not just to compare as they grow.

Jan 23 - Eloise has some sick looking leaves, discoloured, curling upward and brittle and dry :-( I'm always confused when something like this happens to one plant out of a group that is getting (almost) identical treatment. The only difference between Eloise and her sisters is she was FIMmed with no LST, Yvette had both and Genevieve LST only. Everything else is identical Jan 24 - I've begun to suspect Eloise's problems are light/heat stress. Problems started shortly after I started using the bloom setting on one of the lights. I'll leave that setting off for now and moved Eloise to under the other light to be safe. Will continue to water with plain water as well in case its nutrient burn Jan 26 - Eloise is doing great now, stress from the light was definitely the problem. Trimmed off damaged leaves and lowest node Yvette has looked weird for a while now, twisted leaves and everything growing very close together. In hindsight, FIMming and LST together may have been too much for the poor girl. Genevieve is smaller than the rest, whether it's because of the smaller container or something more serious, I'm not sure but I think she may have also been stressed out by the too close/too powerful light Jan 27 - feeding

Discoloured older leaves curling up at the edges and turning dry and brittle. I think my problem is over or under watering. I've been very careful to avoid overwatering so I'm leaning towards the latter but what I've read online suggests dry/brittle means overwatering. Thoughts?

It's overfeed, stop it, give them time to grow, good pH and dry wet cycle is all they need now for two weeks or so Less is more ! Golden rule in growing ! Bad air humidity could lead to minimise VPD, then slow uptake and build up of nutes in grow medium.... You need 70% Rh till second weak of flower, only for last week I would drop so low as 30, normally it's about 50% at most grows, some go to lower forty. All the Best !

Jan 31 - some LST and defoliation for the big girls, Eloise and Yvette. Genevieve is still the runt of the litter, whether from earlier stress or smaller pot or something else, I dunno but right now she's looking like the one getting kicked out of the tent when the time comes Feb 1 - feeding

Things are getting crowded in the tent and Genevieve is clearly the runt of the litter so she's out. She's also the last to flower, not even sure she's pre-flowering yet - cut! Eloise and Yvette seem ok, I yanked the lights way up when some leaves on Eloise started browning :-/ I'm still trying to sort out the right height and light settings...I have to keep reminding myself "it's just a learning grow, it's just a learning grow..." Feb 7 - feeding, bumped up Bloom concentration to ensure enough phosphorus

Feb 14 feeding, I'm still playing with the lights, trying to find the right settings and distance. Using an android app which I assume isn't very accurate but even so it gives me an idea of the change in PPFD when I fiddle around. Girls seem ok for the most part, the budlets are growing some nice golden yellow pistils. They seem to be taking the loss of their sister well considering I told them she had been abducted by Russian mobsters and was likely already dead and slaughtered, her carcass distributed across a network of seedy European nightclubs where money flows freely and life is cheap. Sleep tight, kids! Feb 15 - the main buds sites are really taking off and growing like crazy, I assume this is "the stretch" and not a sign their desperate for light.

I'm pretty sure these leaves are drooping and curling from light stress but want 2nd opinion. Only on top growth, yellow tips on leaves from previous light stress, not sure if there's new yellow. Full nutrient regimen, water ph 6.0-6.5, watered 2 hours before pics

Your Grow Question is looking a like this one that was just asked. growdiaries.com/grow-questions/44328-light-burn I think its the same thing. Overwatering. Given that it was taken a few hours after you watered. Your light is 150w-180w draw from the wall. its not truly 1000W minimum distance from canopy is 24" according to its site. https://kingledlights.com/products/fineest-1000w-remote-control-led-grow-light-full-spectrum-for-greenhouse-and-indoor-plant-flowering-growing-10w-leds Best Of Luck!

Feb 19 - feeding I spilled nutrient solution on Eloise' leaves and forgot to shake them off which I believe is what lead to the damaged leaves. They dried out and turned crispy brown. Yvette has really stretched out, so much that it almost looks like shes reaching for more light but if that were the case, it wouldnt be just her, right? I'm talking to myself again, arent I? Where the hell did I put those pills... Feb 25 - light feeding

Eloise looks like hell with her burnt leaves from my dumbass leaving beads of nutrient solution on them with the lights blazing. Despite that, she seems to be developing nicely. Yvette on the other hand, is acting weird. Shes really hit a stretch, greatly outpacing Eloise and the buds seem underdeveloped. I suppose they could still fatten up but I have a feeling something ain't right with the old girl :-/

Eloise is building some bulk on her buds, she could shape up pretty nice by the end. Yvette still looks like a mutant or maybe just a differnt phenotype. The seeds were a new cross from QCS so maybe the genetics aren't quite stable *shrugs* interesting either way and it hasnt got so tall I have to bend the stalks to avoid getting burned....so far I wont be feeding the girls this week until I'm sure I've got the soil pH dialed in

Eloise looks good, birds are fattening up and getting sparkly as the trichomes develop....Yvette on the other hand, is looking more and more like a lost cause. Shes still growing, even several weeks into flower and the buds are just a collection of pistols. I wouldnt mind so much if I knew why it happened to her but not Eloise :-/ Mar 14 - pulled the plug on Yvette :-( when I pulled her from the pot, the roots didnt even reach the bottom, proving what I feared, that I was so afraid of overwatering that I never watered enough to soak the medium to the bottom. I suspect I'll find this with most if not all of the plants this round.

The yellowing is from an earlier issue but now I'm noticing brown spots and the leaves curling up, some getting crispy-ish. I recently lowered the lights a few inches, knowing I was pushing the safe limits. Is this from the lights or is more likely a nutrient/pH imbalance?

You have a substrate ph issue locking out your nutrition or you are not feeding enough. Your plants wants ample potassium and phosphorus during bulking. She is eating herself to develop. So roots are not in right ph range in soil or not enough nutrition

Wondering if anyone can help me understand why one plant grew out so stretched and with unformed buds while the other from same seed packet appears normal. Is this just a weird pheno? The strain (NLTxGelato) is a new one so I'm not sure how stable the genetics are.

Hey Growmie, I just had this happen with a Bruce Banner Auto, it grew so tall, and the buds were super unformed as it was growing, the stems were long and weak and it eventually broke. Turns out it was just the pheno, I'm growing the same strain now and it grew the correct way. So to sum it up, it happens sometimes, doesn't matter if it's an autoflower or a photoperiod even though it does seem like the photoperiod genetics are a bit more stable at times. Feel free to shoot me a holler if you ever need any help, I'd be honored to assist you. Hopefully, this was helpful, and remember ... "Happy Growing" and "Free your mind one puff at a time".

Fox tailing. Its genetic. Pure indicas seem to do it more than sativas. Its just the bud structure with extra large calyx's, They look like that in the over sized ones cases. But I do agree it goes from being part of the buds genetic structure when its even and controlled all over the bud ,to when it is out of control like when it shoots out from the top or in multiple long tips from the tops, that seems to be caused by some environmental or human influence. What?? I dont know. Never dealt with it much til this year, first time ever seeing it in person on my hash plant, It did get a touch too much nitrogen in bloom, BUT it was from potassium nitrate in the bloom nutes. Was cooler than normal here too this summer. But the genetics of this plant say it looks prone to that chunky bud structure and may be prone to foxtailing, so Im calling it 75% genetics, and 25% environmental or man influence.

Flushing....seems to be taking forever to mature, about 2/3 of the hairs are still white and standing up straight....trichomes are about 60/40 clear/cloudy without an amber in sight....can't remember exactly when she sprouted but it was right around new year's, meaning shes at least 90 days old :-/ April 8 - I'm harvesting her now due to time constraints. It's a little earlier than I would like but really, with all the foxtailing, this grow isnt gonna produce anything to write home about. Smells great and its sticky but all I can think is how nice they woulda been without the stress because I was able to train them pretty damn good if I say so myself, pretty much nothing but 4-8" colas. If nothing else, I can toss it all in a batch of cannabutter. I've started another seed if this strain to try outside this summer, hopefully the sun will treat her right.
