Happy new year, all! Kicking the year off in my little Mars Hydro tent with a couple of intriguing new autoflowering selections from the Niagara Seed Bank - oddly enough, it will be cake vs. pie. This diary will chart my adventures growing Strawberry Dawg Pie 🍓🐶🥧. "Up to 1m. 75-80 day. This plant is a production heavy weight. Containing up to 25% thc. Expect an overripe strawberry skunk flavor to be accompanied by a heavy sour gas flavor. A real treat to grow and smoke." Sounds like some yummy pie! I took a different approach to germination this time around and skipped the soaked paper towel method. I soaked the seed overnight in distilled water as usual and then popped the seed directly into a pete plug the next day. I placed the plug into a grow tray containing some PH balanced, filtered water. I placed the tray on top of a seedling heat mat and placed a humidity dome on top of the tray. Seed sprouted within 48 hours and the first root broke through the pete plug about 48 hours after that. I transplanted the seedling into a 4" net pot containing clay pellets yesterday, 6 days after soaking the seed. Light dose of nutes in the rez - EC .3 (180 PPM). Off we go again! Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Good strong start for the Strawberry Dawg Pie. I only had to do one top feeding before her roots broke through the net pot, approximately 3 days after being transplanted. Very dry in my house this time of year so I've been much more vigilant about running the humidifier in the tent. Both plants seems to be relishing the extra moisture. I haven't changed the rez since putting her into the bucket a week ago and I'll likely let her go another few days before doing so and increasing her feed. Once she's a little bigger the plan is to FIM her and get her into a ScrOG. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

An action packed week for the Strawberry Dawg Pie. I gave her a pretty good defoliation on day 22 and she hasn't skipped a beat, growing another 5" since last week and is filling out again nicely. It won't be long before she goes into flower so I setup the ScrOG net today and gave her the old pancake treatment. I super cropped the main stem to keep the canopy top as low and even as I can - I have no room for tall plants in this tent. She got a slight bump in nutes with last weeks rez change. EC has been right around .6 (300 PPM) and PH has been very stable, between 5.9 - 6.1. I've been super cautious about not letting PH run high (≥6.2) and so far I'm seeing none of the deficiencies I've too often encountered previous grows. I've doubled up the lighting in this tent as I suddenly had a couple of surplus TS1000s as a consequence of doing a lighting upgrade in my other tent. Really hoping to see some better end results.🤞 I'm running both lights at about 75% right now and will gradually increase the intensity. Super happy with this girl's progress. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

The Strawberry Dawg Pie is doing fantastic. She went into flower last week, on about day 27 from seed. I stretched her out a bit more and she's well settled into the ScrOG with a nice, lush even canopy and a good number of bud sites. I started her on flowering nutes with the rez change 4 days ago. EC has running around .9 (450 PPM) and PH has been between 5.9-6.3 (I'm trying to keep it between 5.9-6.1, ideally). Over the past few days she's gone from sipping to guzzling and I've been topping her up with 2-2.5 litres of water with 1/4 - 1/2 strength nutes daily. I only supplement with the core nutes during topups - Micro, Magnifical, Bloom, and AstroFlower. The extra light in the tent seems to really be paying dividends. Both plants are growing vigorously 💪 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

The Strawberry Dawg Pie is one prolific beast. She's definitely one of the branchiest strains I've ever grown. She could easily fill this tent on her own given the chance. She grew another 14" through the stretch this week and is about 29" tall now. She's bigger than I hoped for in this little tent (24" is perfect!) and the light is now raised as high as it will go. I did another round of super-cropping yesterday and folded over 4 of the tallest stems. They've already bounced back but I managed to gain back a couple of more inches of space between the light. I'm hoping her vertical growth is almost done. Along with the super-cropping, I did a lot of pruning this week, cutting out lots of branches and bud sites beneath the canopy - you almost wouldn't know it to look. They seem to pop up out of nowhere. Rez change today - it's been about 10 days since the last one. No big changes. Pretty much following Remo's feed chart. EC is running right around 1 and PH has been between 6 - 6.2 all week. This plant has kept me hopping so I'm hoping for a calmer week ahead 🤞 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

This plant is WORK. You won't have to wait for my harvest report to find out how I find growing this strain - HARD. F'N HARD. She put on another 9" this week despite by feeble attempts to keep her down. She's about 38" tall now and only about 8" away from the light. The light is turned down to 75% intensity. No sign of things burning up yet, thankfully 🙏 Had to unsheathe my machete again this week to prune and remove a lot of branches (along with some defoliation) to thin things out. Humidity in the tent was running around 65% during the night before I cleared this thicket. I don't need future mould or bud rot issues. The VeloKelp and Nature's Candy are now out of the mix. Visited my local hydro supply store to pick up a few things last week and had a great discussion with the owner about nutrients. She highly discouraged the use of VeloKelp in DWC, stating it had the potential to cause more harm than good given that not everything in the product can be easily absorbed, and further, had the potential to attract gnats, promote mould/fungus and rot. She also said to use a light hand with Nature's Candy because complex carbohydrates can't be broken down in DWC and can attract some pretty nasty microbes. I've introduced Sensizym into the mix to help keep the root zone healthy and aid in the uptake of nutes. She drinks and feeds pretty consistently, about 2-3 litres/day. I give her 1/2 dose top-ups. EC has been running between 8-.9 and PH between 6 - 6.3. Her PH goes up a little every day and I balance her out to about 5.9/6.0. Rinse, lather, repeat. I hope she's maxed out now and will just settle into flower. If she gets any bigger my options will be limited - as in I don't know what the eff I'll do 🤷‍♂️🏻 Come back next week and see! Thanks for tuning in ✌️

My wild child, the Strawberry Dawg Pie, is looking pretty good. She finally finished her stretch, topping out at 40" tall. Lots of bud sites throughout the plant and stacking really nicely. I did more pruning this week and super-cropped a couple of more branches that were straying into the lights. I managed to squeeze out a few more inches between the light and the top of the canopy by raising the lights to the very top of the tent using zip ties and 's' hooks. Much of the canopy is still only about 7-8" away from the light, but so far nothing is burning up. The light over this plant has been running at about 75% intensity and I turned it up to 80% a couple of days ago just to press my luck 🤞 She got a rez change a couple of days ago, 10 days since her previous. She got a modest increase in nutes and is seems to be enjoying the addition of the Sensizym into her mix. I'm hopefully done with the heavy lifting on this plant for a while and can just feed her and watch her do her thing for the next few weeks. Dare to dream. 🤔 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Well, it's que será será for the Strawberry Dawg Pie at this point. Old lanky legs is in tight with the lights and leaves are displaying signs of light stress. Intensity on her lamp is now turned down to about 50%. The light over the Cake Stomper growing next to her is running at about 80% intensity; hard to find a happy medium with these strains being so different in size. What hubris made me think pie and cake could co-exist? 😅 Despite the chaos, she doesn't look terrible. Buds are getting plumper. We'll see how everything holds up over the next 4 weeks or so 🤞 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

I should call this plant Icarus cuz she's flying so close to the sun, but so far, the SDP is still soaring. Those long colas are starting to fatten up; more so on those stalks near the middle of the tent and the brighter intensity light. The light above her has been running at about 50% intensity and I've decided to turn back up to 80%. I'd rather a few scarred leaves than underdeveloped buds. We'll see what happens 🤞 EC has been around 1.0 and PH has been running between 5.9 - 6.1. Pretty heavy drinker, about 3 litres/day. The tent absolutely reeks now between the SDP and the Cake Stomper growing beside her. The SDP has a real sour, strawberry fragrance when you brush up against her. Still a few more weeks to go. I honestly can't wait for this grow to end. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

The Strawberry Dawg Pie is still barking. Lot's of light stress but no surprises on that front. She's been flying too close to the sun for weeks. Buds are plump and ripe. Sour strawberry on the fingers when brushing against her. Rez changes and top-ups have become a challenge as she's extremely top heavy and even moving the bucket lid slightly makes her want to lean over - hard. I now need to summon my octopus powers to keep her on an even keel while I test the rez/add nutes. Breeders notes say this should finish 70-75 days from sprout. We're around day 70 now. Autos always seem to take a little longer to finish up in DWC - I think another week or two before harvest. Trichs look to be mostly cloudy now so perhaps by the end of the week 🤞 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Under the right conditions I'm sure this could be an easy plant to grow, but in a small, shared tent this was cannabis work camp. Her growth was prolific. There were weeks of constant pruning and cleanup to keep her under control. She could have easily been twice as much plant if I grew her in my bigger tent. The height of this plant caught me with my pants down. Once this girl hit the stretch, she kept going. Right into the lights. Ideally, I'd like to have waited a little longer before harvesting her, but things were starting to get crispy. Again, she needs room to grow - and a good training regime. Despite all the work and challenges, she produced a nice bouquet of fat, stinky buds - strawberry/skunk. I'll be back with a smoke report and final notes once she finishes drying. Thanks for tuning in ✌️
