Started four White Widow seeds and two Gorilla Glue seeds, picking the best one from each strain after a week. Started the seeds in a paper towel, and once they started sprouting I threw them in rockwool. At the end of the week, each strain selection was healthy enough to move out of the seedling tray and into the net pots.
For this grow I'm using Coleman 33-Quart Party Stackers with lids drilled/sawed to accommodate a 3" net pot and two 1/4" air tubes. I'm hoping this will both allow a large space for root growth, and keep the water cool and insulated.
Connected a Bluetooth controller to the extraction fan, which allows me to create a fan speed curve. Right now the extraction fan speed increases as temps surpass 78F. This should allow the fan to run at half speed when temps are low, keeping the humidity levels as high as possible.
pH seems to be drifting upwards, so I've been adding pH Down as needed to keep it around 6.
A little brown spotting on the lower leaves, I think from nutrient solution coming through the hydroton. I reduced the air pump flow rates down to reduce splashing and it seems to have helped.
Plants were looking good this week, although the WW plant showed yellowing leaves. I was unsure on what was causing this, but looking back, I should have been introducing 6ml/gal CALiMAGic as this seems to have been a cal/mag deficiency.
Flowering already! The plants showed great growth this last week, water levels in the 8 gallon res are dropping quickly now.
I think the WW plant is recovering from the Cal/Mag deficiency, and added a net on 2/4 for a late transition into SCROG given how full the tent is getting.
Plants grew almost a foot again this week, the Gorilla Glue Auto is displaying a small amount of leaf curling at the tips.
Both plants are soaking up tons of water per day, and the pH is drops with the water levels. I believe the leaf curl is from water hitting lower pH levels, and have been topping the water off with pH Up to maintain a pH of 6.
Had to dim the lights back this week, as the tops of the buds were getting close to 75,000 lux. The plants have pretty much filled the width of the tent now.
I'm not exactly sure how much defoliation is needed at this point, but removed a few fan leaves on the WW to make sure light is getting through the upper branches.
Trimmed the lower portions of the plants this week. I just started training the GG stem away from the center of the light, as the top levels of the plants are hitting 75,000 lux. Continuing to adjust light level and height as needed, and am hoping these don't grow too much taller.
Vegetative growth seems to be slowing as the buds develop more. This is great for managing light intensity, as the tops of the plants aren't moving as much.
Changed nutes on 2/27, hoping to keep water levels high and finish strong.
Still seem to be in mid flowering. As much as I'd like to start dialing down the nutrients, it seems keeping levels around 1000ppm is the right call for now.
Dialed back nutrients this week, looking to be harvesting within 1 or 2 weeks. Plants are still looking healthy, with a slight amount of light stress from leaves being a bit close. Buds are filling out nicely, will dial the nutrients back further this weekend.
Had a bud on the Gorilla Glue plant break the branch it was growing on, will be curing it in the kitchen while the plants complete. Readjusted the support to prevent further breakage, looking to finish the grow soon.
Day 101... it's definitely getting a bit long. Will be inspecting trichomes tonight to determine if it's finally time to flush. The plants have beefed up buds everywhere, feeling happy with the potential harvest yield and hoping to maintain good quality for these finishing days.
Cured for around a week inside and sealed in mylar bags with boveda packs.
The buds had cured a bit on the dryer side per boveda instructions, and seemed to rehydrate to the appropriate levels inside the bags.
The aroma is fantastic, although the buds could be a bit more dense. Overall I'm very happy with the quality.
I separated the harvest into top quality and lower quality buds, with 1/3lb buds as top quality flower and 1.5lb buds for use in extracts. Total yield between the two plants comes to around 1.75lbs, or about 800g.
