This is the sister diary of the Runtz showdown, in which we pit two great performing strains created by two highly acclaimed and respected breeders, in a duel to the death.
This diary features the RUNTZ XL AUTO strain by SweetSeeds. In the meantime, all seeds have germinated and seemed to have a level start.
Also here we loaded the grow with our magical intentions as we sowed on Imbolc, the celebration day of the Goddess of spring: Bridget.
We cant wait to see where this will lead us. Both strains will have the exact same conditions, lighting, care and nutrition.
The Lights
Also here we use our trusty Mars Hydro SP-3000, where we are trying to get over 600 grams (2x gram per watt) we succeeded almost on the previous grow, where we got to 1.5 grams per watt.
We are starting in the regulars when these strains have only 4 to 5 weeks left to go, to double up on the 18hr light schedule.
The Soil
Our trusty organic super soil recipe which I will include in the images

Thank you for following us again and all the support on our previous grows! We love you!
Hug Biobuds and Sunshine.
They are growing very nicely and coming week their roots will reach the hotter super soil around the seedling soil. So will pay close attention and pray I won't burn them.
Also a very vigorous strain, a great competition so far for the Fastbuds Forbidden Runtz. The XL runtz should have one week less growth in total, we shall see and get to compare all results in the end.
Very looking forward to comparing their weight, buds, smells, and taste.
The conditions are exactly the same so I'm very excited. The growth conditions are stable nice and moist with all in the correct regions: temps, RH and lighting.
The SP-3000 light we have dialed down to 1/3 and on 75 cm spacing. More than enough for now. Again thank you @MarsHydroLED for letting us try it.
She really performed in our previous grow and we have a prize to show for it, last week the Fastbuds parcel arrived containing goodies from this awesome company!
Thank you Growdiaries and Fastbuds for an awesome prize.
See you next week

So we started feeding them. just some organic growth by BAC and some Calmag. Mostly around the sides of the pots to encourage the roots and start the Microlife overall. We have used nice lukewarm water and added some sugar sirop to activate all the wee beasties.
The growth last week was phenomenal although one is going faster than the other. For this reason I changed them around, should climate on that spot have anything to do with that.
Now we are looking at other XL runts diaries, to learn from the best performers and copycat their methods to maximize yields with this setup.
We will decide if we will just LST them or give them a top... Have to be quick tho, these ladies will flower soon...
Thank you for checking my grow, hope you are successful on yours and Il be checking you out in coming days as I have a little more time.
Big hug as always and see you next week!
Started with some bent which really made side branching take off. I'm just doing leaf tucking, all branches get plenty of light, so no need for bending IMO.
One is quite a bit bigger than the other, if this is a fenotype thing or something I did we will never know since the sample is too small to make conclusions...
So its the one in the slightly smaller pot that is bigger. Also, I switched positions between both to see if this makes difference... but I never noticed hotspots or such in my earlier grows....
One of my annoyances of small-scale operations is that there is never enough data to be able to make conclusions based in facts. It could always be nature or nurture, because I lack control groups.
Maybe my government will someday finally see the backwater retardedness of our way of dealing with cannabis. For now no other option than staying within the law.
I like weed and growing but I like my freedom more.
The XL Runtz are remarkably resistant and vigorous, with extreme growth in just under three weeks after germination.
Beautiful plants and they handle a high light / high organic nute situation from very early on.
Coming week I'll just be leaf tucking, no further LST since they are already going into flower.
Ill be adding BAC Organic Flower coming days along with my solution of wood ash and perma tea.
Also Ill be starting the three 56 ltr growbags to start the three regulars that will run in the same 18 hr lightschedule.
And that light, trusty SP-3000, what a machine, what results so far and how reliable so far.
She doesn't get too warm at all, just contributes to a nice greenhouse atmosphere without any climate management other than me checking temps and RH.
Usually, I need no adjusting, no ventilation, no heating or airco, my system is pretty self-containing and autonomous in the stabile attack where it is.
And lets be real, I get results as in grams per watt and per plant that only the 600 watt / Hydroponic guys get. With organic growing, in such small scale with 300 watt.
So thank you Mars Hydro again for letting us try it and if you are in the market for a new light check www.mars-hydro.com for their current deals!
Thanks all for following again.

As I write this, my throat is swollen with sadness. Our little doggy, who is 15 years old, now is too weakened to be able to move ok and is losing weight rapidly. Not in pain yet but we will not let that happen.
So with a very heavy heart after a year of sadness and lots of fear, we are saying goodbye and spoiling her with extra goodies. Still wagging her tail, oblivious. We all know it comes one day but still, it hurts.
Sorry to get you down with a sad story but at the moment it really helps me to share it with someone, thank you for that.
So I'm seeking some extra comfort with my plants, to get my mind off things and be amazed by how fast these plants go. What power these little plants have.
I did have some problems, ridged leaves on 3 of 4 plants, leaving me scratching my head... The bigger pot didn't have the ridging. So underwatering, too much nitrogen, too warm... I don't have clue but after some clear water, all seemed to return to normal.
Also put the Sp-3000 a bit higher in the tent, to control temps.
After that again mega growth, we are just at week 4, which is amazing to me. Cant wait to see the endresults.
See you next week my friends!
The enormous growth and bud development this week is unbelievable. This strain keeps pushing and pushing, I can see already that these plants will be covered in bud.
Also, these plants are in size what my previous photoperiods grow in 8 weeks and some flowering.
Really amazing to see. So far my experience with autos has been meh at best. These plants are nothing like that and are resilient and forgiving.
The Mars Hydro SP-3000 is now on full blast, it gives me some white pointies and the temps go up in the tent. I'm on the threshold of heat stress and light burn.
I'm trying to push it maximally and to get to know the boundaries.
Thanks again for checking out my grow!
I sure need to get used to the Auto way of growing. My methods and system with soil for regulars are not directly portable to cultivating auto's, so it seems. So what started out as a comparison/battle, is now just a normal grow, since it's not fair that the battlefield was tainted.
It does seem the XL Runtz adjust better to my climate and growing style than the Forbidden Runtz.
Also looking for ways to keep my tent cooler. Considering growing outdoor this summer with seeds started in the tent. It gets way too hot in here as it is now, with outside temps just at 10 to 15 degrees C.
I'm just watering, alternating with a bit of BAC Bloom and Calmag, and some Topmax.
From here I hope its some smoother sailing and hoping the other three will pick up some pace.
Thanks for checking in again!!

The XL Runtz are performing although one of the two also got stunted and is a little behind on her sister. I've been trying to balance everything. PH, temps, nutes.... With these smaller grow bags, the buffering capabilities of my super soil are less. Furthermore, this grow I didn't add the hydro corn, I didn't add the biochar either. The one 20 liter grow bag seems to perform a lot better while my experience is with auto's that anything over 15 liters should not make a difference. But the difference is: they keep their water better in the heat, they can buffer better and these are aspects that are important in a hot grow tent.
The SP 3000 is still performing wonderfully! Very thankful for the opportunity to try it out and recommend this light to all!!
So with this lesson learned I'm going to focus on better-growing auto's perpetually, I like how they perform and what they can yield in only half the time.
The left one should be getting ready soon. The other and the Forbiddens will take two weeks I think... If they really recover.
Thanks for dropping in again!!
Still doing the balancing act with these autos. Trying to learn as much from my mistakes as a can. For now, the preliminary conclusion is that for my circumstance I need at least 20-liter bags.
This is to make sure I don't dry out the grow bags too soon, also I didn't add hydro corn this grow, which I'm going to add next time.
Also, they deal better with higher temps so it seems and have more buffering and balancing effects with my type of super soil.
Still very happy with how the tent filled with only 4 autos I see that 5 or 6 of this size would've worked.
The SP-3000 still working like a charm. Check out the discounts on: www.mars-hydro.com
Thank you for checking my grow and hopefully yours are going great!

Wow wow wow... Apollo what have you guys made at SweetSeeds... My dear this strain is a monster and a keeper. Do you want regular-sized plants and buds in 8 weeks? No problem!
Do you want plants that can handle any condition even as a noob? Check! This beast of a strain is out of this world and I'm over the moon with the results.
I can't believe it. Normally I've seen auto's do 30 cms and some buds on top... This is simply alien tech...
I think I have never seen any plant grow that fast... This is something to try if you haven't already...
Completely amazed... And this is while making all sorts of mistakes: too hot, soil also too hot in nutes and temp, hotspots in tent by lacking fans, less PH buffer.
Stuff I learned:
- In my climate: at least 20 liter grow pots, maybe bigger.
- Add hydro corn, I forgot this
- Less bloodmeal and bonemeal
- More perma tea since mine is now too old to use, it will rot the earth.
- More often more water, in smaller pots
- Better ventilation and routing of fresh air.
- Light a little higher also during flower.
- No training is needed, a little defoliation is enough.
Thanks again for visiting and don't forget, these results wouldn't have been possible without my trusty SP-3000, consider to try it and see what this light does!

This strain is hardy, resilient, very big and a heavy producer without efforts, heat resistant, noob resistant (me), responds well to lst, smells great but heavy smells during growing and drying.
Very sticky buds that are heavy, full and compact, very stoned, body, mind, behind the eyes. Very satisfactory sweet smoke with a heavy haze flavor with the sweetness of cookies, almonds and spices.
It crumbles, smokes, and looks like an expensive weed. It responds well to organic growing, even in smaller pots although my 20-liter pot plant, did waaaaay better than my 15-liter pot plant.
Easy to grow, explosive lush growth, very healthy, resilient and the end result is an awesome strain, completely worthy of the name XL Runtz. They are XL and they are a good example of what one expects of a Runtz kind.
Give this a try folks if you haven't, worth every penny this strain. Apollo and the team of SweetSeeds, you have a winner here.
I cannot begin to tell how amazed I am with the results in 8 weeks and cant wait to give it another go...
Totally blown away....
This strain is a dream to grow, if you haven't tried it yet, it's amazing, it's easy, it's lush and vibrant, full of energy from seed to smoke. Great for organic grow styles and a fun plant to grow. The smoke I will update in the smoke review!
I do not have words for the quality of this strain. In everything. Grow this and be absolutely amazed by its performance.
I had won the seeds with the Halloween give-away but they are a sure winner and a keeper. @SweetSeeds congratulations on a champion auto-strain.
I've grown auto's before, only outdoors, but nothing like this, nothing this big in such a short time, and this resilient for not only mistakes but everything.
This plant will perform even if you were to mess it all up. Keep to 20 liters grow bags for best performance as you could see with my two plants.
One as more developed, although everyone says over 15 ltr makes no difference, with organic coco hybrid super soil, it does.
It is the difference in buffering of nutes, PH, heat, and moisture. Way less hassle in the bigger pot and this was an excellent learning curve.
This grow started out as a match between Forbidden Runtz by Fastbuds and XL Runts by Sweetseeds. But since the playing field was uneven (pot wise but also heat and fresh air wise), the results do not count in my opinion.
But my guess is (since I haven't weighed the Forbiddens) that the XLs for now won. But as I said it would not be fair. We will do the contest again when said playing field is level.
For now thank you again for checking my diaries, if you have any questions or comments, always welcome my friend.
Big Hug
Bud
