Fairly straightforward time in the grow. At this point, she was still in the iPower 2x2x3 veg tent while my previous grow was being harvested/drying. I like double productivity. Don't you? πŸ˜€ I was thrilled at this point that things were going much better than the previous attempt, as I explained in my commentary about the germination period. Only issue: Mild leaf drooping the evening of Day 7. So I skipped that fertigation. The lamp was kept on 24 hours because it would simply just get too cold for the seedling in the tent at night. Temps would drop to 65F with high humidity. Lamp kept her warm 24/7. Otherwise, my notes denote peace and calm. The following week would not be that way. LOL. So, let's discuss goals for this grow. Goal #1 : This is the one. This grow was going to be the one where I would try to see if the most important theory I've developed as a result of my few experiences about properly growing in a mini-tent would be proven right or wrong, sort of. In other words, an important theory came about during my last grow - that I could have a strong amount of control over maximizing the yield and quality of my buds by controlling the size of the plant by having the right timing when switching from the veg lamp to the flowering lamp. My veg lamp is a blue spectrum LED. My flowering lamp is a red spectrum LED (that's why the Rspec in the name.) Blue spectrum LEDs are believed to create tight internodes in veg stage cannabis plants, as per my research (Google). Red spectrum lamps kinda do the opposite. In my first grow ever, I installed the Rspec lamp on Day 30. Go look at that diary. She grew into a big beautiful monster, but the buds ended up having some issues due to heat/light stress because the plant was only 10 inches away from a lamp that was tied to the very top of the tent. It could go no higher. In my second grow, I installed the Rspec on Day 41. The buds were fantastic - almost perfect. The plant was kinda small. but it stayed at 15 inches under the lamp with room in the tent for the lamp to go. Get where I'm going here? So for my mini-tent setup, there's a sweet spot, right? Grow too small/low you hurt yield (obvious). Grow too large/high you hurt bud quality (heat stress and light burn). Since blue lamps keep plants small, and red lamps make them explode in growth, picking the right day to switch lamps is a big part of all this, I think. So basically, Goal #1 was to install the Rspec in the Goldilocks zone, on Day 35, to see what would happen in the hopes of getting the perfectly sized grow that would maximize yield/bud quality. Large enough to yield, while at the same time, small/low enough to not get burned by the lamp. Cuz if proven tru-ish (I know, you can get variations around the mean due to pheno considerations), I could be comfortable in the future knowing that I could grow relatively high-yielding/high-quality plants on a more or less consistent basis. Only three grows in, I'd know where "optimal" was. I thought that would be a colossal win. Goal #2: Be aware that winter growing and summer growing can be two totally different things. Climatically, this grow would be the opposite of the first for several reasons. Firstly, I have no control over the heat in the building, whereas in the summer, I control the AC. Secondly. and most obviously, different temperature and RH levels in my apartment would mean needing different remedies than what I was accustomed. There would be no AC this time. Would I use a humidifier? How? You get my point. So I needed to stay humble about my environmental control techniques. They may not mean anything now. Goal #3: Turbo LST mode. I would challenge myself to LST this plant into a pizza if I could. I would give myself NO ROOM for watering but challenge myself to water the plant somehow anyway. The scrog would be installed no higher than 10 inches above the tent floor and stay at that height as long as humanly possible. (Bear in mind that the pot and stand are about 9 inches tall, so..) Goal #4: And this one is in every grow. Stay humble. Remember this is nature - not a machine. Be ready for curveballs. Be ready to learn something new. Be ready to learn you were wrong. And keep notes. And don't be afraid to do experiments. It's about learning. Not results. Thanks for reading. Hope this was helpful somehow. Have a great grow day!! Oh and by the way no other grower has ever left such an impression on me man. I love how you noted every single week and took such great pics to help me understand and on top of all that your notes as well as the nutrients and mL amounts was unbelievable helpful in teaching me to understand and feel.more comfortable in feeding! Much appreciated! Cheers

@EBxAH, Hey buddy! I went to her page. I saw Zelda getting topped. The plants look great! I'm still very new to all this so I don't know how much advice I should be offering. But with regards to defoliation, my main reason for doing it is to get light penetration somewhere usually. Then somewhere around day 65 or 70 I might do some lollipopping if I see lower leaves couldn't possibly get any light, in order to reduce humidity and improve airflow in the tent. But that's it. Hope that helps?

@TinyTenter, hey man! So my wife started some gelato, wedding cake and Zkittles autos. I made a homemade scrog for the Zkittles. I suggested to her she should do defoliation with the wedding cake and let the gelato be. Would you check out Gekyumes Mom grow diary and give an honest opinion? Or any advice? You're killing it with auto my man so I been paying attention.
TinyTenter
TinyTenter
@EBxAH, I mean, I only have three grows under my belt, so I'm hardly the expert. (And as for inspiration. I've been to your page, buddy. I'm pretty sure the inspiration works more the other direction.. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘). But I read somewhere someone say that early LST, like Day 11, was as good as topping, and maybe better because you preserve bud sites. The grows I've done so far have been 60-90 cm plants. Small, so topping not a need. The one I just started is 80-100 cm. Maybe I'll make the decision to top that one, but I'd prefer not to. No, my plant-size-control method-of-choice that I've been using/testing is picking the right day to switch from my blue-spectrum growth-slowing veg lamp to my red-spectrum growth-exploding blooming lamp. The later in the stretch you make this switch, the smaller the plant should be in the end. Since she's an auto, the stretch ends on the day it ends. So by retarding her stretch with the blue lamp longer, you get a smaller plant when the stretch ends. Oh. And that branch healed for me, so she wasn't topped. I think I even got an extra cola out of the spot where the break happened. Cannabis is so rewarding, even when you mess up! 😜 Have a great one!

@Civicgrows, Thanks buddy! Look at it as a learning experience. What matters is that you keep getting better at it by learning as much as you can. The results are less important, I think. You're obviously studying, so no matter what, you are doing a great job! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

I'm running out of the stuff from my 2nd grow. parting is such sweet sorrow. πŸ˜’πŸ˜‚. Have a great grow day!! And thanks again! i copied everything I do from other people, so who am I to claim copyright on anything? I just hope whatever you steal works for you. Is that a 2x2x3 grow tent bro? Btw you definitely mastered the low stress training! What an amazing grow! Cheers
TinyTenter
TinyTenter
@LstNlsd, Yeah. It's a 2x2x3. It's all that I could fit in here, really. And if you are gonna flower in something like that, LST/ScrOG becomes SUPER essential. I took cues from GrowWeedEasy.com's article about how to grow in a mini-tent, and it started from there. Adopted/created some new techniques along the way. But yeah. Nebula Haze is really the muse behind this grow. I'd love to give her thanks in person. She positively changed my life a bit. But thanks so much for your kind words. Super appreciated.

You are very afraid of light burn. Believe me, with modern LED it is almost impossible to burn the leafs with too much heat! All effects you see, are no light burn at all. If you want to see real light burn effect, you have to hang the light 1-2 inches away from the next leaf. You can test this, if you dont believe me. Maybe on an older plant, because then it is not much damage. You can hang your lights only 10 inches away, because then your plant can collect much more light. Important, is the temperature of the leafs, not the air! The leaf should not have more than 28Β° Celsius. FraFra
