Mar 19: this Bubble OG is the biggest of the three photoperiod plants that I started at the same time. The light in the tent has been a bit too bright for these seedlings, but they’re doing okay now. Mar 22: waiting for the sixth node to from before starting manifolding (mainlining) according to method from Nebula Haze. First time trying that so should be interesting.

Mar 24: biggest of the three photos started at same time (QCS hash bud and Candyland). Looks a bit deficient in something but it’s likely due to pH swings. I’ve now replaced my broken pH pen with a Bluelab which seems worth it so far. Very nice meter. Mar 25: morning was first use of Extreme Blend from kelp4less as a foliar spray at 1 tsp per US gallon. They recommend this as a weekly spray. Pics from evening. Thanks to Organoman and others for answer to my deficiency question. I was being lazy on the soil mix when started in February and also forgot that I should be repotting these photos at this stage. Now that the hard freeze is past I can get some unfrozen soil from outside. Also reminded me that I have Extreme Blend for just this reason for the outdoor crop this summer. Thanks. Mar 28: first use of sprouted popcorn seed tea (20 mL/L) which was watered in. Mar 29: added banana peel tea, Azomite and Epsom salts to water and applied as a 700 ppm foliar spray. I think the deficiencies are related to trace metals and the Azomite should help. Green colour looks a bit off again. Hmmm.

What is causing this deficiency? UsingProMix HP, top dressed with worm castings, and foliar spray with Epsom salts. I think it is Fe/Mn/Zn deficiency that looks like magnesium deficiency, and it seems to happen to all the plants at about this age. Mega Crop and kelp to fix?

Repotting into larger pots with fresh soil (with less perlite) will help immensely. Adding some soluble trace elements will help fix your plants. Stop with the molasses, it does basically nothing and is corn flake packet science. Give the humic acid, fulvic acid and amino acids, these will benefit your plant 10,000 times more than any sugar water (molasses). They really need a minimum of 10 litres for autos or 20+ for photos, depending on how long you want to veg them. 18/6 is a lot healthier for them too. Hope this helps, Organoman.

Mar 31: mainlined or topped to third node and defoliated. Took all cannabis growth tips from mainlining to make Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ). Did this last year when I could which was a bit too late, but I remember it being super potent as a growth stimulant. Apr 3: haven’t tied down growth shoots yet. This will be an outdoor plant so I want it to have a bit of vertical structure to the manifold. That and I don’t have the paper clips I need handy. I’ll get it sorted soon. Apr 5: tied down with 12 gauge wire. Apr 6: weekly foliar with Extreme Blend and the remainder watered in.

Apr 6: plant is looking good recovering nicely from the first step of mainlining. I’m convinced about mainlining outdoors for photos and will be trying that this season. Butterstotch has some awesome outdoor mainlining diaries. Apr 8: got some floral tape from the florist at the mall as I couldn’t find ‘grafting tape’ at the usual places. Stretchy breathable tape is for support at the super cropping point. The purpose of the super cropping is so that the outer growth tips of the mainline are just below the inner growth tips. If the outer tips are higher they will dominate over the inner growth tips. There are now 8 growth tips that should form colas and since it’s still early in the year, I’ll go for 16 colas on these three outdoor plants (hash bud, bubble OG and Candyland). Hopefully they’re all medium to tall plants and not too short. Apr 9: sprayed with FPJ made from cannabis tops at 1mL/L. Hopefully that is not too strong because I remember last year it was quite potent. Foliar spray also had some Azomite and some kelp extract. This seemed to help Beast the other day with what looks to be zinc deficiency so I’ll try it again. Light schedule changed from 20/4 to 18/6 to more closely match natural light cycle. Mars-hydro.com for the awesome FC-4800 grow light and tent. Great stuff.

Apr 13: looking good. I’ve never mainlined before but these three plants seem to doing really well. Hash bud is biggest at this point, followed by Bubble OG and then Candyland. Apr 15: foliar Friday with Extreme Blend and FPJ. Removed wire tie downs for now. Apr 17: hopefully this plant isn’t too short cuz I just topped it a third time for 16 growth tips. Still another month before she can go outside, so going for 16 will keep it small in the tent for a few more weeks and should work out timing wise. These were likely started a bit early. Apr 19: flushed with 250 ppm water and the runoff initially was nearly 2000 ppm. Whoops. Need to get that 20% runoff from each watering so salts don’t build up. Also added peony ring to hold branches apart. Too high now by about 10 cm but it should work.

4/20 plant seems to be recovering nicely from the flush and pruning last night. She seems happy enough. Apr 22: foliar Friday using Extreme Blend and FPJ at half strength. Also Epsom salts and Borax (<1/4 tsp in 3.5 L jug) as these plants seem to have a boron deficiency. And I’ve definitely been over feeding so that is being dialled back. Seeing the EC values in the runoff from the flush was a bit eye opening. Apr 23: adding Borax seems to have done the trick meaning that it was a B deficiency. Between that and the flush last week the leaves have gone from crispy to nice and supple. The AC-Infinity is great. Well made hardware, good software, and kind of the Apple of these things for potheads. I’m completely hooked on the data logging and being able keep a better handle on the temperature and humidity in the tent. This is my first run in my first indoor setup and I’m amazed at how much water these plants can transpire into the air. And I can even move it up a notch and keep track of Vapour Pressure Deficit too. Love it. Mars-hydro.com for the awesome FC-4800 light and grow tent. Apr 27: going good and soon to be planted into a larger bag for outdoor. Apr 29: foliar Friday but late at 6 pm. May 1: watered with Nature’s Source and a another little bit of Borax as it seems the B deficiency is back again. May 2: well, that was too much Borax as the new leaf tips are turning yellow on Hash Bud. Same water used on Bubble OG (this diary), Hash Bud and Candyland so likely not too bad if it’s just that one affected.

May 4: still too cold to go outside for at least another week. Shape seems good if maybe a bit too tight, but with the peony ring in place this should be fine. The data logging on the AC Infinity T4 is quite addictive in its own way. I’ve been amazed at really seeing how much water gets transpired and how much the plants can actually drink. The App is really good with decent Bluetooth range meaning I can check on the tent from upstairs. VPD values are presented on the App so conditions can be optimized for each stage of growth. Very cool. Mars-hydro.com for the awesome light (FC-4800) and tent. 👍👍

May 14: last plant in tent and will be moved tomorrow. Some potassium and or phosphorus deficiency showing so I added some Power Bloom to the water. May 15: transplanted outdoors into 80 L garbage can previously used for tomatoes. Cut some slices in the 5 gallon bag to make it easy for the roots. This garbage can wasn’t used last year and the soil turned into a great compost with a full year off. Some K deficiency showing but she should thrive in the new soil.

May 20: will be -1 C at about 6 am tomorrow. She’s showing a P deficiency because of the cold already so gave the three big photos a P heavy foliar spray (0-12-0 guano, Gaia Power Bloom and Epsom salts with yucca extract as a surfactant (wetting agent)). This plant is too big to move into a heated tent but she’ll do fine. Outdoor growing in Alberta. Fun times. 👍 May 21: hit -3 C overnight so a bit worse than expected, but not as much damage as on Candyland. May 22: now running +3 C or better overnight but she took a fair bit of damage. Should recover but too bad it happened.

May 27: staked with bamboo poles. Putting main poles on angle means you can easily friction fit cross pieces where needed. Super easy and seems like it will work. May 29: staking system works great and the plant is starting to obviously grow vertically since adding the stakes just a couple days ago. So the roots must now be tapping into the larger volume of soil within the garbage can which means we might see some really good growth here for the next month. Right on. 👍

May 30: this big manifolded plant has recovered nicely from the frost about 10 days ago. The bamboo stakes are working great to open up the plant to sunlight. June 1: evening watering included molasses and Humalite. Yucca used as a surfactant when watering to ensure that soil gets evenly wetted (lowers surface tension of water). June 2: lots of potential clones but my cloner is maxed out and can only hold 36 at a time. Oh well. June3: foliar Friday with Extreme Blend, FPJ, and Epsom salts. June 6: noticeably taller, and grew 5 inches in six days. Not bad. Cool and rainy today.

June 7: This plant is growing fast. Lots of foliage building up inside the centre of the manifold so I cleared that out a bit. Adding more bamboo cross pieces to further open it up. Check out coyowolves howling at dusk in video. June 10: four inches of vertical growth in three days. 👍

I love this plant. When installing the main 6 foot long bamboo poles I wondered if any of the three manifolded plants would be able to reach the top. Looks like this one will very soon as it is still growing vertically about an inch a day.

June 21: looking good and growing fast at the Solstice. Looks like it grew 9 inches in 6 days for a 1.5 inches per day average. Awesome. 👍 June 24: added scrog net. June 27: a bit wilty after a warm day and a half since last tending. Perked up again an hour or so after watering. Hash bud was also a bit wilty but all smaller plants were good.

July 8: this thing is huge. July 11: the Bubble OG is now too tall for me to do light deprivation so I’ll just let it finish naturally. This means it will continue getting bigger, but because I’m so far North the light gets weak quickly and the later in fall buds aren’t as good. Ultimately this is all for hash anyway so it should work out okay. I have lots of clones that I will force flower so there will be a good comparison.

July 14: it’s getting hard to measure how tall she is. I’m 6’2” and it is further than I can reach. For scale it is in a full size garbage (not that you can really see it in some pics). July 15: looks to still be growing fast. This plant is too tall and cannot be forever flowered like the other photoperiods. It’s starting to flower and is supposedly a late Sept or early October finish. July 16: double rainbow after thunder showers. Did a major defoliation on the three big manifolded plants.

Great plant. Not being force flowered as it is too big, but the other two big manifolds are being forced. The clones are being force flowered and the Bubble OG has really nice purple buds. Hopefully this big plant can finish before the cold weather arrives. July 26: switched to gypsum as Ca source.

Aug 19: power is out again for third time in about 10 days. Beavers falling trees into the power lines. How rural Canadian is that? “A beaver is a nocturnal animal” as some of us know from a classic Hinterland Who’s Who on TV. That means the power goes out shortly after they get busy after dark.

Aug 30: starting to flower but slowly. Sep 7: late season hailstorm didn’t do any real damage to this plant. Sep 8: day after major hailstorm there was another 2-3 minute wind and rain storm today that k Ickes this plant over. Once again it is totally fine. The manifolding, bamboo and Scrog net worked perfectly to keep it all together.
