Started thee week with some light defoliation on the bottom 3rd with no real reaction. Got an inkbird hydrometer and humidifier going about a week back, and she's looking pretty happy. Keeping the RH in the green zone according to pulse vpd chart. Introduced nutrients grow big and big bloom at 1/2 strength for the first time since burn on wk2. Letting her do her thing.
Was a week of learning as I took my first clones ever. Planted them directly into soil with root hormone. put them under 600w led 24/0 and turned on heating pad under the dome. after a day they looked dead. did some research, saw they like temp around 72ish. was nearly 90 in that side of the tent. since trying to murder them, i have them under a cfl 18/6 , ditched the heating pad, and have been misting only the leaves and dome, avoiding the medium so it doesn't get water logged. They are holding on for now, but it's not pretty. after day 3 in the dome, i opened the vent 30%. going to 60% after another 3 days, then 100% on day 10. Hoping for the best.
Topped the mother when i took clones to keep canopy level, and defoliated the bottom 3rd and any fan leaves blocking nodes in the center. Roots are getting dense. Might need a new pot soon, but also want to limit overall growth.
Got my main branches laid out and bound. Slight separation at the knuckle on one limb, but it's scabbing over nicely and growth has not been hindered. Branches are really low to the dirt so lil concerned about future air circulation but i think some defoliation should be fine. new branching showing since lst. did some topping to let lower stuff catch up. Clones show no rooting. Cut some new ones, and they are looking much better than the last batch. cut clones at a 45, and didn't bake the shit out of them this time. I think they'll take root in a week or so. When clones are healthy I'll feel okay with flipping her to 12/12 when I know my genetics are preserved. Wait till you see the beehive of roots next week on the transplant pics.
So it was pretty easy to notice how thirsty she was, because I was watering 2ce a day. Got to the point that when watered, the soil didn't even catch the water and it ran through the pot. Decided I should check on the roots and sure enough I had a bee hive of roots. Cut the roots up a bit, and transferred to a 5gal bag with happy frog soil. bondaged her up in the new pot. The knuckle split from last week is almost completely scabbed over and the limb is doing fine. Clones are looking much better this time around, and have begun hardening with more open vents on the dome. Added scrog lattice, and began routing tops to far ends of the tent. defoliated the bottom 3rd to keep under the canopy leaf-free for max airflow. Alternating between calmag water and nutrient solution @ 6.5ph.
This week has been pretty hands off. just letting her fill out the space, and a little weaving in the trellis. lost 2/3 clones during hardening, so that brings me to a whopping 16% success rate historically. the good news is I think I got one hardened and semi stable for now. waiting for it to give me the thumbs up before I flower the mother. This is my first grow, and I'm researching a lot ahead of time to be proactive with issues. If anyone has some do's and don'ts for flowering, scrogging, or sees anything that could become a potential issue with this grow, please feel free to holler in the comments.
Final days of veg. did a heavy defoliation, and a final tuck on the scrog. throwing 24 hr dark period to kickstart the 12/12 photo cycle. took final clones.
It's been a bit humid, so dropping humidity to 55ish% hasn't been realistic. been making sure to maintain good airflow until desired humidity can be reached. canopy has shown pretty rapid stretching, and I've removed a few limbs that will never reach the light. lots of branching happening near the tops getting light. clones have shown moderate roots after 6 days in rapid rooters. little fingers growing all over the plant.
We have baby flowers! The stretch is real this week. I Had to take the riser out from under her to give headspace for the lamp. They have doubled in size this week growing over an inch per day. Going to do a big defoliation to slow her down. Cut back some small branches that wouldn't make it to the main canopy. Very little to do but let her work. Been a bit more humid than I would prefer, so been opening up the tent and blasting it with a big fan to keep her dry. Exciting time seeing the transition to flower.
So we started out this week with a big fat defoliation because these chicks are fuckin' amazon women, and I'm running out of room. It didn't help. I first removed the riser the cloth pot was sitting on, that gave up about 5". That helped for about 2 days and they were back up to 5" away from the light. I then ripped out my exhaust and relocated it on top of my tent, and gained another 6". Thankfully it's nearing the time that the stretch should subside, and bud production takes priority. That's a good thing because if they don't chill out, I'm gonna have to climb up them in a month and kill a giant to harvest the buds. Speaking of buds, the flowers are looking like covid viruses with their little urchin arms reaching out, and secondary nodes are starting to fill in the mid canopy. The new sugar leaves growing near the buds have a slight sheen of frost. I've been swiping the majority of the fan leaves to allow light penetration & airflow, and the humidity has been a lot more agreeable this week around 55%. Let's get past this phase, because tall skinny girls don't do it for me anymore. I'm into fat girls now. As always, this is my first grow, and if you see any potential issues in the grow, don't hesitate to bring my attention to it. See ya next week!
Girls are looking pretty happy! The buds are slowly putting on mass, and we're seeing more frost on the sugar leaves. And they're stiiilllll stretching. Some of the tops are growing really close to the light so I have a few options:
A) supercrop the offenders midway through flower.
B) Weave them behind other tops to push them horizontally
C) Let them hang out close to the light and observe their behavior.
I've decided on B with a fallback to C. I would prefer not to bleach my tops if possible. Most of my research would have me leaning away from supercropping this far in. I think I could get away with stressing her out that much in weeks 1-2 but I think at this point it would affect my yield, as the offending tops are the strongest flowers on the plant.
I'll be reducing the Foxfarm Grow Big in the next week which will reduce the N, and up the P/K ratio. Probably give her one more defoliation as well.
This is my first grow. If you're browsing here and see a potential issue with the grow I would love to know about it.
See ya next week!
Welp, sometimes things go as planned, and sometimes you end up super cropping a month into flower. I found 2 main buds pressing up against my light. It burned 2 little marks on one of them from hot leds. sooo, I super cropped them. one of the 4 cropped wasnt taking it gracefully, so i used some wire to keep her up above the canopy. they seem to be perking up towards the light again. The buds are slowly filling in to one another, and frost production has doubled from the previous week. Some of the pistils are starting to take color from white to burnt orange. The smell has shifted from that green chlorophylly fresh plant smell to a very unusual semi sweet earthy smell.
All in all, it feels like the buds should be larger by now, but from what ive researched the bud mass phase isn't here just yet. Crossing my fingers for a good dense frosty pheno.
Guess we'll find out soon. See ya next week!
we're at 42 days of flower. Not a lot to report this week. The supercropped limbs tried to boner back up into the light, so i bent em back a little bit and almost split the damn thing but dmg is superficial. pistils are progressing to orange, and buds are connecting up and packing on more mass. trichome production is continuing to pick up. The terp profile is beginning to show itself. citrusy sweet earthy fuely. it's a difficult smell to pin down but it's pleasant. I've been wondering why my buds aren't as big as I thought they should be, but remembered I started flower count on the switch, not on recognition of flowers, so I'm likely 7-12 days behind where my mark shows. This has been a pretty informative 1st grow. I've had to utilize nearly every technique ive learned about. Been re referencing flowering/harvesting media since it's on the horizon and expect harvest around late june. Let's finish it up! See you next week!
Pretty do nothing week. water and feed. Looks like we're in the bulk phase. The buds are starting to fatten up. I dunno if the pictures show it, but trichome production continues to pick up, and I'm keeping my eyes out for cloudy ones. I may give it another week, then start flushing. Even if I get only a 7 day flush, it's good enough for the first run.
The aroma has pushed heavier towards citrus this week with slight pine. Even brushing a limb makes my hand smell like lemon farts.
Heading into the last hurdles of the game. Let's show some good results.
A little more work went in this week.
The limbs got too fat and were bunching up in the corner of the tent, so I had to string some of them up.
I did a 8gal flush (even though it should be a 3:1 ratio to the soil), and only watering with ph water. I've noticed that some of the side buds look a bit more larfy compared to the big chonker sponges in the center. I'm not sure if this is due to the limitations of my light, or if it's a result of inconsistent canopy height from the stretch. During veg I had them very uniform, so next run I'll attempt to utilize my trellis more, and perhaps monitor my day/night temperature differential a bit closer during those 3 weeks.
Trichomes are taking color. I've seen a few amber, and it's about a 50/50 milky/clear across multiple branches. Aroma is still funky citrus and fuel. The fuel is very present on contact.
I've purchased a little gear. Got a trim bin, some gloves, a pair of curved scissors, and a scale so I can provide data.
Just trying to stay patient until the plant tells me when it wants to die. I'm ready to Jackie Chan chop that thing down. But again, trying to be patient.
So, here's my plan for the coming weeks:
I'll be shooting for as many milkies as possible with 2%-10% amber.
I'm going to hang it whole for as long as it takes to get a good snap
dry trim till my fingers smell funny, then jar it up.
I'm getting excited.
See you next week.
Alright, we made it! This is my first harvest. I'm proud of my plant.
I'm hanging her up to dry at 55% humidity until i get a good snap. Hoping for a good long dry.
I'll be updating this grow with final weights and pictures for trimming and curing.
I want to thank everyone who checked out the grow and offered encouraging words and tips. That really helps when you're struggling with a new endeavor.
If you enjoyed the grow, let me know what you thought!
Germ date: Feb15. Veg for 63 days
Flip to 12/12: Apr20. Cut Jun21. Flower time: 61 days.
Total time grown: 124 days.
Thanks again, and see you run v2.0!
they will evoporate fast. the quality will definitely suffer. a real bummer indeed. maybe google fridge drying for cannabis if it speaks to you it may help you in this situation. just an idea.
