I am looking for another “pure CBD” with under 1% THC. For balance effects, I can mix “pure” CBD buds with normal THC and THCV buds.
Pure CBD Candy from Philosopher seeds is a Diesel derived plant. Seemed to be the industry standard these days.
This would be my phenotype sorting run from 10 seeds. Hope that I can get 2 plants to flowers well at the end.
First step is to look for plants that would grow outdoor in Thailand. These diesel plants can be light feeders. So, I’ll be looking for phenotype that has best tolerance level to fertilizers. I’ll start slow and ramp the fertilizer up. A few plants will die for the sake of science.
Then I would be looking for fruity smell rather than fuel smell. I had good CBD plants before but they just smell too bad. May be one plant can be mother for my future CBD clones.
On germination, I soaked seeds in hydrogen peroxide solution. Once the root tip (radicle) poked out, I planted them. Warned that CBD Pure Candy is a light feeder, I use media that did not have any fertilizer. I mixed 4 parts peat moss, 3 parts small pumice, 3 parts pearlites, and some mycorrhiza sands.
CBD Pure Candy popped out of seeds in a hurry and showed true leaves with four days. 9 out of 10 seedlings popped. And I am waiting for a week before feeding them with earth worm casting.
Meanwhile, I started preparing 7-liters pots for next month step. I put in 1 part earth worm casting, 1 part old soil, and 1 part chunky coconut husks. Also planted purslane in the pots. After a month, the purslane should start to established. The fertilizer weaken. And soil microbes would be well established. Then, CBD Rich Candy seedlings can go into these pots.
I only made 6 of these pots. And I only expect that 4 or 5 out of 10 seeds will start reasonably well. So I won’t need to make the same number of pot with soil for all the seeds.
Yes, even if the seeds popped, I plan to eliminate a slower plants after three weeks.
When I first started to grow, I would to keep them all. Seeds are expensive. However, I now think that the dearest resource is my time. And weak phenotypes are waste. So I pick only the strongest plants. Therefore, for price of five seeds, I would expect to get only one strong plant.
I would then try to clone from phenotypes that do well in Bangkok climate. And if the flowers are potent with nice smell, I can keep the clones going for a while. That is until I run out of space because I want to try new strains.
Note on the coconut husks:
Before using them, I soaked them in a pail of water for a couple of nights. This washes off natural tannin from the husk. Tannin that can hamper root growth. Soaking coconut husks under water also drown any beetle eggs on it. Otherwise I would get huge grubs feeding on the root around flowering time. This way, no insecticide chemical or microbes would be needed.
@Med_in_Tropic, ok let's see..
It for sure needs fabric pot for cooling.
Soil should have no new
organic ferts at that temp especially.
Shade only no hot reflective areas either.
Watering should only be done with ice cubes (im serious). That would save most of them.
😀😀😀😀😀😀 yes @GYOweed, master of the desert, years later is still better than never. 😆😆😆😆
I live in a big city with heat island. There are parts of Thailand that is a notch hotter.
@Med_in_Tropic, well holy damn i thought only parts China has super high temp and rh.
Well id tell you the fix but you dont listen to me anways until years later :(
