Apr 28: good potential with this cross from the 2021 season. Both parents did quite well last year so it will be interesting to see how these do this year.
Speaking of last year, it turns out my soil had way too much potassium and was also badly lacking in calcium and magnesium. Combined with way too much sodium in the water, it’s no wonder last year was a shitshow.
This year’s soil mix will be amended to include dolomite lime and gypsum, plus Humalite which is a mineral only mined here in Alberta that is 65% humic acid. Like Leonardite but formed in a fresh water setting, not salt water. Nearly coal, but apparently amazing growth properties. A 25 kg bag was 40 bucks Can. The local hydro sells a drum of Humic acid (this stuff in water) for about 1,300 dollars. Go figure. Will also use Gaia Green All Purpose and Power Bloom. Will still use some KNF techniques, but more nutrients in soil rather than mostly foliar as done last year (2021).
June 7: doing fine.
June 10: topped the one in the field for manifolding. After reaching six nodes, I’m topping back to four nodes and then removing lower growth tips but leaving fan leaves to power things.
July 9: first night of light deprivation which is 12 h darkness to start the flowering process.
July 10: another favourite plant this year. Nice and fast and big.
These are all really nice strong and big fast flowering plants. There’s no such thing as a perfect plant, but these seem pretty close for these conditions. Not as early flowering as the Purple Mazar or Triple XL crosses but slightly bigger.
Plants in grow area are being force flowered, and the one in the field is not.
July 26: these plants are the biggest drinkers which likely means that they are the fastest growers. Switched to gypsum as a Ca source.
July 28: last night of 12:12 light cycle.
Aug 6: the unforced plant in the field is getting huge and maybe just about to start flowering. Will leave it unforced to see how it flowers at this latitude.
Aug 11: the field plant is awesomely huge (almost square at 1.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide) because it was not forced unlike the other photoperiods in the grow area. So I knew it would get bigger, but now I’ve decided to ‘phyto-force’ these plants by shining a 730 nm far red light on them for a few seconds at dusk. This shifts the plant to ‘dark’ mode immediately rather than after two hours. So instead of 9 h of darkness it’s as if they are getting 11 h, or the day has 26 h. This will get the plant blooming earlier so the buds will ripen under stronger sun before bad weather arrives. Mainly doing this for the big Bubble OG manifold that was too big to cover but I’ll also do it to these domestic four plants. Using far red light like this is briefly mentioned in Ed Rosethal’s Grower’s Handbook.
Aug 14: emergency surgery was needed on the field plant. Didn’t even have time to take pics but one of the primary limbs split apart and was lying on the ground. We had a wind storm last night that downed a tree on a power line (so I had no power today) but it wasn’t too bad of a storm. The limb was still sort of attached and the leaves weren’t dead so it had probably been like that for about 10 hours. I propped it back up with the bucket of water and went and got some duct tape and a Scrog net. It might actually heal, or I will lose a big chunk of my plant. So it goes. My fault for not maintaining it properly as I had been ignoring these field plants and I knew this one needed a trim. I’ll try fixing up a better net soon.
Aug 16: looks like the repair will work as the leaves on the broken limb still look good. 🤞
Still one of my favourites this year. The one in the field was not force flowered in July like the other photoperiods. It’s quite big being about the same volume as Bubble OG manifold which also was not forced. This one is several months younger so it’s definitely a vigorous grower.
Aug 26: cutting out the molasses and wood ash getting within 2-3 weeks of the end.
Aug 28: big defoliation on the field plant taking out lower and internal foliage. The field plant is pretty big and just starting flower.
Sep 7: late season hailstorm.
Sep 8: huge fat colas but they haven’t filled in yet because they started re-vegging with the nice weather. All three plants in the grow area have 8 colas but you can’t see them all in the pics.
Sep 11: field plant is impressively huge and might actually flower in time but there is likely only 3-4 weeks of the season left here.
Other plants in grow area were force flowered in July and are almost done.
Sep 16: took 380 g wet to control some minor bud rot.
Sep 22: field plant is looking good. The buds on the other plants have not thickened up after re-vegging. They were flowering and doing great but then started to re-veg which has delayed their finish. Oh well, the weather is still good.
Sep 29: harvested second round of 765 g wet from grow area plants for total of 1,165 g wet so far from four plants.
Unlike the other 11Roses crosses (Purple Mazar and Triple XL) none of these finished early. All four plants in the grow area are similar phenotype. The field plant is a bit bigger pheno but it also vegged much longer and got much bigger.
The question now is how close to done the field plant will get before we get a hard frost. No frost in the two week forecast but it usually happens by mid-October.
Oct 2: added Scrog net. Took round of 335 g wet.
Oct 4: field plant is very big and buds are forming quickly. Buds are slightly ahead of the Fast Skunk that is beside it. This plant is three weeks older than the Fast Skunk.
Oct 6: very promising field plant in that the buds are forming quickly and the weather is still good. A bit cool but sunny and likely still good for flowering.
The four grow area plants were force flowered starting in mid-July. The field plant was not light deprived but instead starting in mid-August I used a far red light (730 nm) at dusk to get the plant into dark mode for the night. This essentially provides an extra two hours of darkness or a 26 h day and is a bloom booster. This likely got the plant about 3-4 weeks ahead in flowering which makes it more likely to finish in time with good buds.
Oct 10: took a round of 415 g wet.
Oct 13: looking good but there was some frost damage from last night. First time below 0 C this fall. Some leaves are suddenly very dry and shrivelled which seems like a deficiency aggravated by cold weather.
Best phenotype is the field plant which has the best buds of the five plants. One of the four grow area plants has a notably strong lemon scent which is awesome. No seeds off of these plants this year, but I still have lots of feminized seeds from last year so I can grow more out next year to find the best pheno for breeding.
Oct 15: looking awesome and getting pretty smelly. This is definitely the best plant of the crosses I’ve done the last three years. Will have to find this pheno again next year and breed it.
Oct 16: final round of 739 g wet for total of 2,054 g for the four grow area plants.
Oct 22: took 2,295 g in first round from field plant. About 40% still to come down tomorrow. More from this one plant than from the other four together. This plant is competitive with the big Hash Bud for biggest yield.
Oct 23: final round of 715 g for final total of 3,010 g for the field plant.

Week 26. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!
11Roses x Auto Super Skunk XL - Custom Breeder & Strain
This was a great plant and the best of the various crosses that I’ve done so far. The field plant was the best phenotype and vegged longer than the smaller grow area plants. All were manifolded to eight colas. I’ll grow more of these next year to find that field pheno again and will breed it with something.
This field plant was really big and tied the Hash Bud manifold at 740 g for final dry weight. The buds on the Hash Bud were better in part because they ripened under stronger sunlight, but these were nice and had a great soothing floral smell. Used the far red light at dusk to promote flowering.
