6/22/2022 Dropped into Ph 6.3
Added myco in water, 1 ml cal mag per gallon, just enough, soak for 24 hrs
This is supposed to be a super vigorous mother plant, seeds are nice and plump.
I have particular high hopes for seeds 6, 7, 8, 9 which seem bigger/better than the others. 4 is a runt. 1-3 are good sized. Five is pretty plump we will see.
6/23/2022 Start germination
About 24 hours after initial drop in water, I placed each seed into a soaked Root Riot cube, and then back into the cup with its label.
Placed lid back on tray, covered and back on heater. It's about 74 degrees F. Once they pop, I'll start the veg week, approximately 1-2 days.
6/25/2022 Last Day of germination, ready to pop
I'm pretty verbose with my grows, some people may hate that.
I like to show what I do for my own process, as well as to share with others.
I put Hydroton into the bottom of the AC Infinity 1 gallon pots, like 2 inches. Then mixed Mother Earth Coco + Perlite Mix, Fox Farms Ocean Forest, earthworm castings, Dynamyco. Placed the root riot cubes into the substrate contained by the fabric pots -- misted with diluted Foop Spray, domed. Environment looks good.
Seedling stage week starts tomorrow, yay.
Disclaimer: I grow and show the exact number of days from seed to harvest, as much as possible...
Week 1 Starts 6/26/2022
Day 1
First day of seedling/vegetative growth. Initially 12/12 light schedule until she can take more light
These girls will begin their lives in this Spider Farmer 2x2 tent. I have the Spider Farmer SF-1000 on them on the lowest setting @ 36" on a 12/12 schedule. That light is from the OG Vanilla Frosting Pandemic Grow in 2020 and its proven to be a good light with zero issues, lots of flexibility and control. It's cool as well. Great product. Once my 3x3 finishes flowering the White Widow Manifold grow, I will move these girls in for flower, so vegetation will be in the 2x2. I'll sort ventilation later, I just have a fan on them on low, and off at night. The 2x2 coupled with the SF-1000 is hard to beat for price/performance for vegetative cycle.
6/29/2022
Was worried for a couple days, the leaves looked yellow and "crispy" on the tips. Which for this early phase freaked me out.
Fortunately, that seems to have been for nothing. The plants look and seem healthy. I sprayed them with about 9 pumps of super diluted foop, but no water on the plants directly. I last added less than 100 ml of weak aspirin water to the perimeter of the plants on 6/27/2022 after topping off the pots with perlite to prevent fungus gnats and add more reflection, although I have zero pests at this point. I bought another light today as well, it will be here on 7/1. Similar COB LED, just more output.
Internal notes:
#1,3,6,7 less developed less vigorous, # 7 has not fully opened up, could be a late bloomer - did some of these get switched at birth, maybe 4 and 7 got swapped?
#2,4,5,8,9 are bigger and healthier, marked those with the green plant IDs
I'll [maybe] keep six of these girls so one out of #1,3,6,7
see pics
Week 2 started on 7-3-2022
End of seedling phase...starting real veg
7-4-2022
Moving right along, I have been slowly increasing light and time. Watering 100 ml per plant. Added Gaia Green 4-4-4 top feed and watered in, but not super close to the seedling. I'm not blown away by the progress. I killed the other three seeds today because if not I will obsess and think, hey maybe I can grow these outdoors. Sure way to attract the wrong kind of attention, so I forced myself to kill them off. Happens every time.
7-5-2022
Finally seeing 2nd set of leaves this AM on all but a couple plants. I watered 100 ml AGAIN this AM since the bags are still so light, I am seeing a little more vigor and health ramping so I am feeling better about the progress. For anyone who actually reads this crap, the seedling phase is everything, get that right and your grows will be better. Hope by week 3 these babies will find their legs. Fox Farms Ocean Forest is part of the soil mix and its sort of hot, in that it has a lot of nutes that have not been watered out. I don't want to over feed, but next week I will add some of the bloom top fed to the pots to ensure a little of everything is there for these girls. I am OK with slow release and using just water this grow.
7-6-2022
Moved the 6 girls into the 3x3 now, as my other grow graduated to a 4x4. Adjusted light, and added a super low movement fan to get the stalks stronger and encourage growth. All of them are pushing up a second set of leaves now, so I am glad, fed 100 ml water to each plant @ 6.3 Ph. CO2 is around 800 or so ambient, and humidity is about 85% temps are 73.9 F - like 23.2 C. Sprayed down the sides of tent with foop and higher Ph water, and closed her up. Smells like the ocean tide in there. Can you really call this a SOG anymore? Not really, but any more plants would be illegal so playing it safe. Who cares, maybe I will grow beneficial companions in a few other same size pots.
Week 3 started on July 10, 2022
Slow growing, not sure if its temps, light, water. Moved into the 4x4 put under the larger light.
I'll get some pics soon.
July 15, 2022
So finally after moving to the new tent, increasing light, and re-potting, I am seeing some growth. I have only four of these girls left in the tent. One moved to the outdoor stealth garden and prob wont see harvest. Killed four that were less vigorous. Growth appears to be like early week three, but I think by the end of week four I will be all caught up and then some.
More detail: I re-potted into 3 gallon square pots. I added Gaia Green grow and bloom to the soil, which is a mix of coco, perlite, worm castings and Fox Farms Ocean Forest - don't forget the clay pebbles.... Ocean Forest is a little hot so the blend helps with that.
I am also adding Flora Nova Bloom to my water @ 300ppm Ph 6.3 (added Cal Mag too). Three plants are green and healthy, one is a little funky looking. I will prolly keep two of these Green Gelato Autos, and have another strain cover the other two plants, for a four plant grow.
Added companion plants to the pots: crimson clover
Placed pots in 10"x20" trays to capture runoff for when I really start watering.
Added humidifier to the tent to maintain better Rh, keeping it around 80-85% right now
Light is about 28-30 inches from the plants, and so far temps are good around 78-80 F, and nice humid warm air is being maintained in the tent.
July 17, 2022
Here is how the week ended: plants finally got some legs, and I killed off the others, so just two decent plants left.
Week 4 starts Sunday July 17, 2022
Plants seem really nice and healthy. I really like Flora Nova, its a great product. 300ppm and the plants love it, even though the Gaia Green is in the mix, it seems to just love this combo, ever since I repotted with the amendments in the soil, and watered with Flora Nova Bloom (mix it crazy well before using) the plants just look really happy and green. It's not an organic product, maybe like 30% organic -- just like me haha.
I think by week's end we will be caught up and ready to intensify lights, threw the SF1000 in the tent finally for more light, but so far just keeping only the Phlizon white light full spectrum COBs on and the RB lights off, and not using the SF-1000 at all even though its mostly white. Despite what Phlizon says, the COBs are great during veg, the RB not so much. I like the COBs so much better than the smaller LEDs for veg.
July 19, 2022
Turned on the SF-1000 to 60% and measured light, I'm happy with it. I have another strain growing next to these and the extra light will help during flower as a side light but it will most likely hit the canopy too. The growth is vigorous right now. Added pics, today is day 28 since they were dropped into water
July 23, 2022
Tomorrow starts week 5, growth is super green, no funky yellow or leaf drama. Stalks are getting much thicker and stronger. Turned the lights up this week, added the 2nd COB, and temps are just fine! Who knew. Anyway, they look like they are very close to pre-flower. Added some tent mates for a future grow, check out the grow area vid. Maybe I forgot to mention added worm castings this week...
Week 5 started July 24, 2022
Growth is still strong into week five, I see no pre flowering, I think that is because she started really slowly due to me getting used to this new light, etc.
July 27, 2022
Smells like lime sherbet up in here. LST, light defoliation to get some light on the lower colas. Really watered in today for the first time soaking the media, she is stretching and I see maybe some hairs for pre-flower - hope not too too soon though, I'd like more height than nine inches before she fully stretched
Week 6 started July 31, 2022
August 2, 2022
Been a few days. Both plants are flowering, right on time. I have checked a lot of other grows with this strain, and considering home growing capabilities vs a professional grow room, my flowering time seems later than spec, by about a week... but right on time compared with other grows out there.
#5 and #8 are the only ones I kept. #5 is greener and one of the best specimens I have grown, considering my feeble lights. Look back to the day zero pics in the germination week, #5 and #8 were side by side during veg and at the hot spot of the light. Something to think about there...
One more thing. I have other stuff vegging right now, and I have a four day trip coming up... so I am waiting til later flower to turn the blurples and uv on. It is just too hectic for veg to turn those on, much better results with just the full spectrum COBs == even if I wasn't I would still prolly wait. The full power with both channels on is just a lot of light for veg. and the wrong kind IMHO on these COB lights. I have two COBs totaling 850 watts, without the blurples on, I am burning like 380 watts right now according to the killawatt thing
The last feeds before flowering were pretty heavy, in the 400+ range (remember this is soil) and I amended the soil too with Gaia Green Bloom, worm castings.
I have _dropped_ my feed back down as I was getting the tiniest bit of nute burn on just a few fan leaves. Seems like under 300 is perfect for this soil/grow, its at 240 now. She has all the stuff she needs in the soil, so its just weak feed of Flora Nova Bloom, and one more round of adding dry amendments later. I am _mostly_ organic here, not perfect.
Defol was no joke, but not compared to photos I run, it was an order of magnitude less. So far so good, but pretty sure I could have vegged these way more successfully had my env been better early. But I need to remember that I actually buried about 3 to 4 inches of the stalk when I re-potted (like a tomato) We'll see.
