Hi all! Starting my new diary with Royal AK Auto from Royal Queen Seeds.
Day 1: The seed germinated on 4th day under 23 C and 90% RH. I put the peat cube into the soil right before the cotyledons came out. Snapped the end of the root (5 mm) while transplanting :(. One hour later cotyledons came out and opened. The shell was left in the soil completely. The stem is very strong. I like this seedling very much. Seems no damage was caused by broken root.
Used 12L airpot, 10L soil-perlite mix, 2.5L of water with pH 6.3, 120 ppm.
The soil is very soft and retains water very well. I had almost zero runoff after 2.5L watering.
Performed Calcium test of the spring water I’m using. It’s 50 ppm. Good to know!
Day 2: 130 PPFD, 9.4 DLI. She’s already asking for some light.
Day 3: 200 PPFD, 14.4 DLI. She was pointing to the lamp like the light intensity wasn't enough for her. Increased light a bit. Progressing slowly, probably some damage was done while transplanting. At least she's alive :)
Day 4: 200 PPFD, 14.4 DLI. She’s quite slow, although the first pair of leaves looks nice and clean. Stem is long, will cover few cm with soil.
Day 5: 200 PPFD, 14.4 DLI. Added soil to hide the long stem.
Day 6: 200 PPFD, 14.4 DLI. Today I watered the seedling till runoff to check the soil. I was shocked when saw 2200 ppm in runoff. Flushed with pH corrected water and FlashClean 2ml/l to wash out excessive nutrients. After 11,5 L of solution ppm was 370, although pH of runoff was about 7. What a stupid mistake to buy the soil without label. Hope she will be fine.
Day 8: 200 PPFD
Day 9: 230 PPFD
Day 10: 230 PPFD
Day 11: 230 PPFD
Day 12: 230 PPFD
Day 13: 230 PPFD
Day 14: 230 PPFD. Watered 1,5L pH 6.4 300 ppm. No runoff.
Day 15: 250 PPFD. She’s low on some nutrients. Probably Mg. Will foliar spray her.
Day 16: 250 PPFD
Day 17: 250 PPFD
Day 18: 250 PPFD. Watered 1.5 L, pH 6.6, 600 ppm. No runoff.
Day 19: 250 PPFD
Day 20: 250 PPFD
Day 22: 260 PPFD
Day 23: 280 PPFD
Day 24: 280 PPFD
Day 25: 280 PPFD. Very high pH of runoff. When I watered 3 L it was 7.9. Flushed with 9 more L of low ppm solution, pH 5.7-6.0. Runoff pH dropped to only 7.5. I think this soil is too bad. Probably they added extreme amount of lime. That’s why pH was about 7 or even higher when I transplanted her. 1000 regrets. This crop is ruined, I’m sure. Will let her grow anyways. Next watering will flush again with even more water.
Day 26: 280 PPFD
Day 27: 280 PPFD
Day 28: 280 PPFD. Pistils are coming out.
Day 29: 280 PPFD. She’s a little bit sad in the morning, I thought it’s overwatering, but one hour later she was looking happy.
Day 30: 280 PPFD.
Day 31: 300 PPFD. Watered 8L, pH 5.7, 400 ppm. Runoff 5L, pH 7.5, 300 ppm. I can’t lower pH of runoff. It stays at 7.5 all the time. I hope she will start drinking more in few days so I will water her with pH 5.7 more frequently. She will start flowering next week I guess.
Day 32: 300 PPFD.
Day 33: 350 PPFD.
Day 34: 380 PPFD.
Day 35: 380 PPFD.
Day 36: 400 PPFD
Day 37: 400 PPFD
Day 38: 420 PPFD. Watered 3L pH 5.5, 700 ppm. Runoff 500 ml, pH 7.8, 300 ppm. She’s hungry 😋. Despite high pH in runoff, AK shows no signs of deficiency. She’s stretching hard, more than 90 cm height already. Gonna trim lower branches and bend the top.
Day 39: 450 PPFD.
Day 40: 450 PPFD. Trimmed two branches. Will continue in two days.
Day 50: Stretching decreases, leaves looking good. pH is still 7.5.
Day 52: pH dropped to 7.2
Day 54: Watered 3L, pH 5.5, 700 ppm.
Runoff 300 ml, pH 7.4, 610 ppm.
Day 56: Watered 3.5 L, pH 5.5, 760 ppm.
Runoff 500 ml, pH 7.5, 750 ppm.
I’m impressed by how resilient this strain is! Due to a bad soil mix pH is buffering to 7.5 always. I thought it will get lower in time if I feed with pH 5.5. Still runoff is 7.5 every time. The plant looks very strong and healthy, no signs of pH imbalance, no burnt tips, lots of green leaves and bud sites. First trichomes appear. In the beginning I thought she will die soon and if not, will be weak. But she did so well! Royal AK is definitely a strain worth trying.
Day 57: Bud sites are located very dense. She’s taking up nutes pretty well. Gonna remove few fan leaves near the top tomorrow.
Day 59: Runoff pH is 7.2, much better now.
Day 78: Trichomes on top buds are cloudy/amber 90/10%. Foxtailing started about a week ago, but lots of them already got milky trichomes. Will start flushing immediately. So it took about 7 weeks of flowering to get ready.
Day 82: Fan leaves on top are yellowing quickly, also having purple shade. Few days left.
Day 85: Most of trichomes are ready. I will give her two more days with no watering.
Day 87: Chopped lower branches. It’s a hermie. Found few male sacs bounded inside flowers. One young seed was near that spot. It was about 2 mm in diameter, green colour.
Will have to chop the last plant that I didn’t include in my diaries. Next week I’m going to clean the box entirely, and remove old carbon filter.
I liked this strain. Big colas with huge flowers. Smell is some sort of haze, very strong and stinky.
Smoke is soft, with a household soap aroma haha. Very close to haze taste, but more transparent.
Effect is pleasant calm, creative.
@bobo66, good results! I don’t think there’s a huge difference between the most popular stocks, as genetics and technology is pretty similar. Proper selection from scratch would take decades. They produce at least few strains every year. That means they are keeping the wave of strong genomes by constant crossing the most good-looking phenos. All base strains were developed long time ago. Anyways, RQS is one of my favourites.
